Race Information Sunday 24 th June 2018 Swim start time: 07:00AM Dear competitor, Thank you for entering the Centurion Triathlon which is permitted by and run under BTF rules. Please read all the notes! Active Training World wish you all the best and we trust you will have a productive and enjoyable race. Parking There is chargeable parking for the event at the race venue. The parking meters at Stanborough Lakes currently might not accept cash. You might need to pay by either card or by phone. There is plenty of free parking in the residential areas surrounding the lakes but you will need a short walk to race HQ. Race Venue Stanborough Lakes, Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, AL8 6DQ Registration Registration will be at the race headquarters next to the transition area. It will take place on Sunday 24 th June 2018, from 05:30 am to 06:30 am only. If you are BTF registered you must produce your valid BTF licence on race day, otherwise you will be required to pay the 5 for a BTF day licence. Please bring the right money if needed. Quick Distance Reference Metric Centurions 2K Swim (2 Laps) 82K Bike (2 Laps) 16K (2 Laps) Imperial Centurions 1.25 Mile Swim (2 Laps) 83.75 Mile Bike (4 Laps) 15 Mile Run (3 Laps)

Transition This is a long-distance triathlon, so the transition area is very different to that of a sprint or standard distance event. Please see the map below, followed by a walk-through explanation on your morning before the race. Upon arrival at the Centurion registration, you will receive an envelope containing: - 1x Velcro ankle strap - 1x Red timing chip with your race number on it - 1x Centurion swimming cap - 2x Paper race numbers (you only need to use one of these if you have a race belt) - 1x Attach to bike sticker with your race number on it - 1x Attach to helmet sticker with your race number on it - 1x blue plastic bag labelled WET followed by your race number - 1x red plastic bag labelled DRY followed by your race number You will also be given 2 x transfer/tattoos with your race number which you must fix to your arms. This is so we can easily identify you throughout the day. The instructions to attach these will be provided in the registration packs. Please wear your timing chip as per the diagram below: Before attempting to enter transition, please attach your bike sticker to the top tube of your bike and your helmet sticker to the front of your helmet. Then put your helmet on your head with the tension and straps adjusted to fit you properly.

Before the race you will enter via the BIKE OUT/IN section. The bike racks are numbered with your race number, so there is no rush to get in line first. A marshal will let people in one at a time, checking their helmet fits securely, their body is marked and their stickers are attached to their bike and helmet. The main bike racking section is just like any other triathlon. If you are competing in the Metric distance, you will find your number on the first 4 rows of racks. If you are competing in the Imperial distance, you will find your number on the last 3 rows of racks. Our preferred method of racking is by the front of the saddle, which takes up the least room in transition. If you rack your bike with an alternative method and you are seen to be taking up an unnecessary amount of space, a marshal may ask you to re-rack your bike. Next to your bike, you are ONLY allowed these 4 items: 1. Cycling shoes 2. Cycling helmet 3. Running shoes 4. Race belt What about everything else I need for the race? Please use your WET and DRY bags to store everything else for your race. Place these bags on the hook that corresponds with your race number, in the KIT BAG AREA. WET bag

Other than maybe a towel, leave this bag empty on your hook. After exiting the swim, you will put your wetsuit, swim hat and goggles in this bag and then hang it back up again. DRY bag Fill this bag with any essential items you need after the swim. This could include: - A change of clothes after you finish the swim and / or bike section - Your own nutrition, (water bottle, energy gels, etc ) - Socks - Sunglasses DISCLAIMER Active Training World are not responsible for the damage or theft of any of your belongings, including your bike during the race. There are bike insurance companies that will cover your bike when it is left in the transition area. We are not associated to any of these insurance companies but if you would like us to suggest an insurance company then please get in touch via email. Timings, Arrival and Registration - Registration and transition open: 05:30 am - Registration closes: 06:30 am - Transition and kit bag area closes for all competitors: 06:45 am - Mandatory race briefing: 06:45 am - Metric and Imperial race starts: 07:00 am Race Rules Normal BTF, (British Triathlon Federation), rules apply. All these rules are important but the most important of these is that all competitors must secure their cycle helmet (on their heads!) before removing their bike from the rack and must not undo or remove it before racking their bike at the end of the cycle section. You must also fully comply with and follow all rules of the Highway Code. Our primary consideration is your safety, make it yours as well!

Swim Course You will be guided to the side of the lake at the swim start, straight after the race briefing. Swim hats are compulsory and will be provided. Both race distances will start together at 7am. You will be asked to enter the water and line up at or behind the start line. The swim will start in the water. The start will be prompt, to provide the most accurate times for you. The temperature of the lake is taken on the morning of the event and if it is over 14c then wetsuits will be optional. If the temperature is over 22c then wetsuits will not be allowed. Please don t email us if wetsuits will be allowed at the race, as we can t tell you this information until the temperature is taken on race day. If you have any recent exposed cuts or feel unwell you are advised not to take part. If you get into any sort of difficulty, roll onto your back and raise one arm directly upwards out of the water. This will prompt a lifeguard in a kayak to either rescue or attend to you out in the open water. The route is clockwise. The course will be well marked with swim buoys and you will complete 2 laps, whether you are competing in the Metric or Imperial race. After

completing 2 laps, you will head for the swim exit marked by flags and a rubber floor matting exit. THERE IS A 1 HOUR 15 MINUTE CUT OFF FOR THE SWIM LEG Wetsuit Off Area After exiting the swim, please completely remove your wetsuit in this designated zone before carrying it to transition to put in your WET bag. Vanity / Private Changing When you enter the kit bag area you must put your swim belongings into your WET bag and hang it back on your peg. After this you can either head straight to your bike or get changed using your belongings in your DRY bag. There will be private changing areas for Males and Females if you require them. If you are getting changed then you must use the vanity changing area as the no nudity in the transition area rule applies to the kit bag area as well. Bike Course After securing your cycle helmet in the transition area, (this must be done before un-racking your bike), proceed on foot to the mount point, where you must wait until it is clear to start the bike course. You must ensure you mount and dismount correctly, (i.e. after the mount line and before the dismount line), failure to do so will result in a time penalty!

There is one foot-down point on the course, as you exit Stanborough Lakes onto the main road. This is outlined by the rule: At the foot-down point, both wheels must come to a complete stop and one foot must be on the floor, keeping your balance. It is always your decision when to pull out on the main road. This will be one of the many marshalled points on the course. This rule, if broken results in instant DISQUALIFICATION from the race. There will be one feed station on the bike course. You will reach this feed station after 20 miles, 37 miles (for metric) and additionally at 54 miles and 71 miles (for imperial) A diagram of how to navigate it is shown below. If you choose not to use the feed station, please follow the red dotted line. The bottle drop zone is for you to discard your sports bottles before you collect a shiny new 750ml bottle. Your old bottles WILL NOT be returned so please make sure you bring along cheap 750ml bottles for the first leg on the bike stage that you don t mind discarding. The bottles you pick up will be yours to keep. There will also be a toilet at the feed station which is the only toilet on the bike course. The bike course will be very clearly signed and marshalled, however the GPX files are also available to download at www.centuriontri.co.uk/course After completing the bike leg you must dismount your bike before the Dismount Line and keep your helmet on until after your bike has been racked. The Run Out exit is through the Kit Bag area so you can either have your running shoes by your bike for a quick transition or

you can head to the kit bag area to collect your belongings and get changed. Again, the private change areas will be available. THERE IS A 7 HOUR TIME LIMIT (AFTER RACE START) TO COMPLETE THE BIKE LEG. ANY IMPERIAL ATHLETE THAT HAS NOT REACHED THE FEED STATION FOR THE SECOND TIME BY 11:15 AM WILL BE TOLD TO TRANSFER OVER TO THE METRIC RACE. Run Course Starting from the transition area, triathletes will run either two or three loops. The course is on a mixture of grass, trail and pavements and is mildly undulating. There will be two feed stations on the loop, one of which you will pass twice. There will be water, energy drinks, bananas, energy gels and crisps on offer to keep you going at each station. The course will be very adequately signed and marshalled, with our medical team MET Medical patrolling the course and on call to attend to any issues in this long-distance event. Toilets will be available at the start of the run course/lap point and also at the feed station by the QE2 hospital/ascot Lane corner.

The Finish At the finish will be announced as a CENTURION. There will be water available and you will receive a unique spinning centurion medal. To be called a Centurion you must complete the course within 10.5 Hours! After the Race A marshal will help to remove your belongings from the transition area if there is a lot of activity in the transition area when you are ready to collect your things. Your bike and helmet numbers must match your body markings AND your paper race number. There will be no exception to this! Prizes Presentation The presentation of prizes will take place throughout the day and we ll make announcements prior to the presentation. There are lots of prizes on offer! Results Event Chip Timing will record your times. Results will be live at www.eventchiptiming.com during the race. Other Services - Coffee shop: Hot drinks and breakfast snacks will be available to purchase. - Massage: Post race massage will be available with Moveology. - First Aid: First aid will be provided - Bike Support: A bike support vehicle will be in operation during the race. - Toilets: Toilets are provided near the transition area and on the course. Toilets are also available near the reception area at Stanborough Lakes. Any Questions? If you have any questions then feel free to contact us at events@activetrainingworld.co.uk
