COMPETITION WARM-UP SAFETY PROCEDURES Meet Management for all sanctioned Canadian swimming competition must ensure the following safety procedures are applied. It is incumbent on coaches, swimmers, and officials to comply with these procedures during all scheduled warm-up periods. Coaches are requested to encourage swimmers to cooperate with Safety Marshals. GENERAL WARM-UP: Swimmers must enter the water FEET FIRST in a cautious manner, entering from a start or turn end only and from a standing or sitting position. Running on the pool deck and running entries into the pool tank are prohibited. Meet Management may designate the use of sprint or pace lanes during the scheduled warm-up time. Any such lane usage must be communicated either in pre-competition handout, announcement or deck signage. Diving starts shall be permitted only in designated sprint lanes. Only one-way swimming from the start end of sprint lanes is permitted. Notices or barriers must be placed on starting blocks to indicate no diving during warm-up. EQUIPMENT: Kick Boards, Pull-Buoys, Ankle Bands, and Snorkels are permitted for use in the scheduled warm-up time. Meet Management may permit use of tubing or cord assisted sprinting in designated lanes and during specific times of the warm-up only. Coaches are responsible for equipment reliability and use. Hand paddles, drag chutes, and flippers / fins are not permitted during any warm-up at any time. VIOLATIONS: Swimmers witnessed by a Safety Marshal diving or entering the water in a dangerous fashion will be removed without warning from their first event following the warm-up period in which the violation occurred. In the case of a second offense during the same competition the swimmer will be removed from the competition in its entirety. A provincial disciplinary action or report may be filed. SAFETY MARSHALS: The Safety Marshal is a trained position designated by Meet Management. Safety Marshals shall: Be visible by safety vest Be situated at each end of the competition tank and when applicable, similarly situated in designated warm-up tanks when pre-competition warm-ups are scheduled. Actively monitor all scheduled warm-up periods. Ensure participants comply with warm-up safety procedures and report violations to the Referee. PARA-SWIMMER NOTIFICATION: Coaches are requested to notify Safety Marshals of any Para-swimmers participating in warm-ups where necessary and at the coach s discretion. The meet will be restricted to 450 swimmers. Each swimmer may swim a maximum of seven (7) individual events + relays. The swimmers must meet two (2) time standards and then will be allowed to swim a maximum of seven (7) individual events + relays, however they must swim the two events that they qualified for. Swimmers 11 & Over must meet the qualifying standard for all events entered. Classified PARA swimmers will be exempted from entry qualifying standards for events up to 200m in distance. Qualifying Stds: See chart below. Times are generally Swim Ontario E Festival or Age Group Standards. All entries MUST have a seed time, entries with NT will be rejected. Entry Deadline: All entries must be submitted thru the SNC website at www.swimming.ca by Wed October 28th, 2015. Page - 3 -

Entry Fees: individual events - $9.50, relay events - $12.00, 800m/1500m events - $15.00 Please make cheques payable to BARRIE TROJAN SWIM CLUB and present to Meet Manager on the first day of the meet. Clubs will be notified as soon as possible if over-subscription will affect their entries. Deck Entries: Deck entries will be accepted at the discretion of the Meet Manager and Meet Referee. All deck entries will be swum as exhibition. Deck entries will be at a cost of $15.00 per event, due at time of entry. Rules: All current Swimming/Natation Canada (SNC) rules will apply. The SNC WARM-UP PROCEDURES will be in effect for the meet. The FINA start rule will be in effect. No session will be longer than 4 ½ hours. SWIMSUIT RULES: MATERIAL: The material of swimwear will definitively be constituted only by textile fabric(s). The FINA definition of textile currently is: Material consisting of, natural and/or synthetic, individual and non-consolidated yarns used to constitute a fabric by weaving, knitting, and/or braiding. SHAPE: MEN - swimwear shall not extend above the navel or below the knee. WOMEN - swimwear shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor extend below knee. No zippers or other fastening system is allowed. USE: Swimmers shall wear only one swimsuit, taping is not permitted. Swim Ontario policy regarding split times: Meet Management acknowledged the SO policy with banning the future use of split times as official times and requires that any coach wishing to rely on a time achieved by the swimmer for an interval shorter than the total distance of the event shall so advise the Referee prior to the commencement of the session (or event) in question. In such a case, Meet Management and the Referee will undertake all appropriate steps as prescribed by their training to assure the quality and integrity of interval times. Any time collected according to this request will subsequently be recorded in a separate event of the appropriate distance and stroke created for such a purpose." Swimming/Natation Canada Rule SW 10.1 Item 5: "where, due to facility or time limitations, swimming separated by gender would not permit all swims to be completed while offering reasonable opportunities to swim for all participants, and in particular on an equitable basis for swimmers of each gender. In spite of this rule, any swimmer who achieves a record time at any level (club, regional, provincial, national, etc, whether age-group or open) will not be recognized for that record unless the coach has advised the referee prior to the start of the session in which the is to be contested that there is a possibility of the record being broken, and the referee ensures that the swimmer competes with competitors of the same gender for his/her heat. In the event that mixed gender swims are permitted pursuant to this policy, the results still be posted separately by the gender of swimmers. Only registered swimmers, coaches and officials are permitted on the pool deck. Any other person who wishes access to the pool deck must obtain authorization from meet management prior to the start of the event. Refreshments: Food and drinks will be available at the concessions stand just outside the pool area. SWIMMERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO EAT OR DRINK ON THE POOL DECK. THIS WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED. Format: Friday night will only have 13 & Over events (see note on distance events). The 800m FREE and 1500m FREE will be seeded Fastest to Slowest, regardless of age or gender. These distance events are OPEN age group and MIXED gender. Heats will be swum with only one swimmer per lane. Meet Management may combine 800m & 1500m heats as required for time. If you have a swimmer attempting a record please notify meet management. 12 & under entries will be accepted only if seeded in the top 5 heats. For Saturday & Sunday, 13 & Over swim prelims during the morning sessions with finals in the evening session. swim during the afternoon session. As per the Swim Ontario Athlete Development Model there will be no finals for the age groups. The top 16 swimmers advance to finals, with the consolation B finals to precede the A finals. Consolation finals will only be swum in events with more than 20 entries at the entry deadline. Meet management reserves the right to limit the number of heats in the 400m, 800m, 1500m FREE and 400m IM events. Teams impacted will be notified ASAP and offered an alternate event selection. 400 8 x 50m MIXED FREE RELAY will consist of a single heat of 8 teams. Entries will be limited to 1 per swim club, if entries exceed 8 teams participants will be selected by random draw. This event will be OPEN to all ages, however teams must consist of 4 boys & 4 girls. This event will not be scored. Meet Management will present a $200 Pizza Party gift card to the winning team! Seeding Rules: All entries times will be converted to short course times, using the default conversion factors in Hy-Tek Meet Manager and then seeded accordingly. Scratch Rules: Scratches are due to the Office within 30 minutes after the commencement of warm-ups. Scratches for finals are due to the Office 30 minutes after the end of the morning session. No show swimmers will be scratched after the final call for the event. There will be no penalty for a no show swimmer. Awards: Ribbons for 1st 8th place including relays. High Points Award for each age group (for the max 7 individual events only). Results: Results for each event will be posted on the pool deck as well as the pool gallery at the completion of each event. Live results will also be available via the Meet Mobile application. Upon completion of the meet, the full results will be available on the SNC website www.swimming.ca within 24 hours. Page - 5 -

Coaches Information 1. Coaches meeting will take place at 7:45am on Saturday Morning, please make an effort to attend or send a team representative. 2. Paperwork for coaches will be provided in hanging file folders in the Meet Managers Office. 3. Any errors with meet entries should be reported to Office each session. 4. Scratches are due to the Office within 30min after the commencement of warm-ups. Entry reports will be provided in your hanging file each session for your convenience in reporting scratches. Please indicate scratches on this report than sign/initial and return to the Office, even if you have no scratches. This courtesy improves workflow in the office and allows us to print paperwork sooner and run in session on schedule. 5. Scratches for finals are due to the Office within 30min of the completion of the morning session. 6. Please have relay cards into the Office within 30min after the start of warm-ups for each session. 7. Club results/ribbons will be available following the meet, within a reasonable period of time. 8. There will be food/refreshments available for the coaches in the Official s Room. 9. Swimmers are not allowed to eat while on deck. This will be strictly enforced by Meet Management, Lifeguards and Facilities personnel. Swimmers must go to the lobby to eat. 10. Swimmers cannot use the emergency exit doors to the viewing area; they must go through the change rooms and they must also be wearing appropriate footwear. 11. Coaches are responsible for their swimmers conduct at all times before/during/after the meet. 12. Coaches are responsible to have their swimmer behind the blocks for their event and heat. Meet Management will make every effort to accommodate missed swims at the sole discretion of the Meet Referee. Page - 10 -
