THE COACHES 2007 WOMEN S SOCCER James PRICE Head Coach 11th Year at Liberty 82-95-15 Liberty, 96 WOMEN S SOCCER James Price enters his 11th year at the helm of the Liberty University women's soccer team. In his 10 previous seasons as the Lady Flames' head coach, Price has compiled the most wins in the school s history and been credited with building and maintaining the success of the its women s soccer program. Under his guidance, Liberty has won a Big Southrecord three championships (2000, 2001 and 2005), earning a trip to the NCAA Tournament each time. The three titles are the only ones in the program s 18-year history. Last season, Price s squad continued its success as his Lady Flames returned to the Big South Conference title game to defend their 2005 Big South title. Liberty s appearance was its fifth appearance in the championship game, the second most in conference history. All of the Lady Flames appearances have come under Price. The previous year, Liberty added to the list of the program s accomplishments as the Lady Flames captured their third Big South Championship during his tenure, a conference record. Price s squad won seven consecutive games en route to the title. In his 10 seasons as head coach of the Lady Flames' soccer program, Price has coached 37 all-conference athletes, including 20 players who earned first-team honors. In addition, Price has coached two Big South Player of the Year honorees and three Big South Tournament MVPs. In 1999, he was named Big South Coach of the Year, becoming the only Liberty women's soccer coach to achieve this honor. During his tenure, his Liberty teams have posted six winning seasons and recorded double-digit season victory totals four times. His 2000 squad s 15 victories is the current school season mark. Price served on the NCAA Division I Women s Soccer Committee from 2004-2006. The committee is responsible for the direction, control and supervision of the NCAA Division I Women s College Cup. He has also served as a member of the Mid-Atlantic Region Committee for four years and chaired the committee for two years. Prior to joining the Lady Flames, Price served as the assistant coach at Randolph-Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, Va. He participated in all of the instruction at practices, along with game-day preparation and full involvement in the recruiting process. Price also served one year as the director of coaching for the Lynchburg United club team. His responsibilities included securing travel coaches for the season, holding travel team tryouts and working as liaison between the coaches and the board of directors. He is still involved with the team at various levels and with several special projects. His coaching experience also includes leading the junior varsity squad at Heritage High School, in Lynchburg, Va., during the 1995 and 1996 seasons. In 1992 and 1993, Price was the recreation assistant at The Kingfisher in Kingston, England, where his responsibilities included organizing a soccer school. A heralded goalkeeper from Sussex, England, Price competed for the Flames from 1993-95. He tied the school record for most consecutive shutouts by a 4

goalie in 1993 with four. He also led the team in goalsagainst-average in 1993 with a 1.22 average and in 1995 with a 1.25 average. He finished his Liberty playing career, recording 164 saves, 9.5 shutouts and a 1.30 goal-against-average. Price received his bachelor's degree in sport management from Liberty in 1996. He also earned an associate's degree in exercise science from Farnborough College of Technology in England. Price, his wife, Christine, and their son, Isaiah, reside in the Lynchburg area. He oversees several aspects of the program, including recruiting, scouting, and camp and program development, in addition to the day-to-day operation of the program. Godwin, who graduated from Liberty in 2005 with a degree in sport management, played in 70 games for the Flames, earning first team all-conference, all-tournament and second team VaSID All-State honors his senior year making him one of only 14 players in program history to earn three or more awards in one season. Godwin's performances in 2005 also led him to be invited to try out with Great Britain's U23 team and professionally with the Cheltenham Town Football Club. Prior to joining the Flames, Godwin had a standout youth soccer career in England. Making 65 appearances for Westfields Football Club, he earned Young Player of the Year awards in consecutive seasons and was appointed captain of the Herefordshire Football Association County Select Squad. During his tenure as captain, he led Herefordshire to the quarterfinals of the National Youth FA Cup Tournament and helped the squad win the prestigious Mitre Trophy. His performances for both Herefordshire and Westfields did not go unnoticed, and he attracted the attention of several professional teams, spending trial periods with Tottenham Hotspur and Notts County, before competing on the collegiate level in the United States. After graduating from Liberty, Godwin moved to Atlanta, Ga. where he continued his soccer career by playing with the United Soccer League's Augusta Fireball and Atlanta Silverbacks reserve teams. The Hereford, England native also took his first steps into coaching with the Atlanta Fire Soccer Club. Away from the field, Godwin has been working with sports hospitality giant THG Worldwide, providing corporate hospitality for some of the world's largest corporations at events such as the 2006 World Cup. Godwin holds an Advanced Regional National Soccer Coaches of America Association (NSCAA) qualification. During the fall of 2006, Godwin spent a week as the guest of Aston Villa FC of the English Premier League. There, he observed practice sessions and training games for various teams from the club s famed Youth Academy to the first team professionals. What I experienced that week was better than just about any coaching course I attend on in this country, said Godwin. I spent time with coaches who had won the Champions League in their playing career and with current players who have represented their countries at various levels. It was an unforgettable experience, and one which has helped me to take great strides as a coach. This past summer, Godwin married his girlfriend and fiancé of over four years, the former Morgaine Christiansen. The couple now resides in the Lynchburg area. 5
