3 Carroll County News and Notes Project Changes You Need to Know Now As you make the choices for your projects for the year, below are some changes that you need to know. The February Newsletter will contain all the details of the changes to the 2015 Carroll County Fair, but the following are pertinent to the selection of your projects. Breeding Rabbit vs- Pet Rabbit Project: There has been a clarification on the difference between the Breeding Rabbit Project and the Pet Rabbit Project. If you plan on bringing your rabbit to the fair you must take the Breeding Rabbit Project. You do NOT have to breed your rabbit to take it to the fair or to participate in this project. However it is the designated book by the state to be used for rabbits coming to the fair. Breeding means that you will be showing your rabbit(s) in the Breed Classes. The Pet Rabbit project is to be taken by those members who wish to take a rabbit project but will NOT be bringing their rabbit to show at the fair. The Pet Rabbit project falls into the same category as the companion animals and is eligible to compete in the Ohio State Fair in the Companion Animals Category. Market Ducks: This project will be added to the Small Animal Auction. The Giant Pekin ducks will be ordered at the same time as the broilers. There will be 2 ducks to a pen. Baked Goods Allowed in the Still Project Auction: The Carroll County Fairboard has agreed to allow the sale of Baked Goods at the Still Project Auction. The rules and guidelines will be included in the next newsletter. Livestock Selection and Management Classes ANR Educator Sandy Smith will be teaching Livestock Selection and Management Classes for all Carroll County 4-H and FFA members. These classes are educational and will help youth choose healthy, quality animals that will allow you to be competitive at the Carroll County Fair. All classes will be held at the Extension office beginning at 6:30pm. February 12 th : Dairy Beef Feeder February 25 th : Swine March 4 th : Lamb/Goat March 11 th : Poultry (Which will include Market Ducks) This is a great opportunity for experienced members as well as those new to the project. Out of County and non-4-h/ffa members are welcome to attend for a $5.00 fee. Please call the office to register so that we can have enough handouts for everyone. You may register the day of the event. ADVISOR CORNER! Reminders: IMPORTANT: We have received notice that the new poultry books are NOT going to be ready this year. Thank You! Celebrating a Successful 4-H Benefit Auction in 2014! A big thank you goes out to all of those that donated, those volunteers that helped put the event together and to those that attended the auction this year! The 4-H Benefit Auction, held at Atwood Lodge this year, was well attended and was an enjoyable event. Attendees enjoyed a delicious dinner, both a live and silent auction, and the company of many community members. All of the donated items were sold to help support the Carroll County 4-H Program. Thank you for standing behind 4-H, a powerful youth development organization!
