Conneh s goal was his sixth goal in just 26 appearances with Steel FC and broke a tie with Cory Burke, Derrick Jones and Ryan Ritcher. Already surpassing his goal total from 2016, Conneh will now look to break the club s single season goal mark. The Liberian forward needs just two to rewrite that record as well. CHAMBERS MAKES MOST OF HISTORIC MATCH On the day where he became the club s all-time leader in both starts and minutes on the pitch, midfielder James Chambers made his match against Harrisburg even more memorable by scoring his first goal the season. With a back and forth battle taking place, Chambers fought for a header and collected a poor cross before firing into the back of the net for Steel FC s opening goal. SAMUEL NOTCHES FIRST CAREER ASSIST Playing in just his fifth match of his Bethlehem Steel FC career, forward Yosef Samuel made a massive impact as a second-half substitute against Harrisburg City Islanders. Entering at the start of the half, Samuel needed little time as he delivered a through pass to Seku Conneh for the match s winning goal in the 49th minute. STEEL FC HOSTS YOUTH SOCCER DAY AGAINST OTTAWA Sunday s contest will be the first of three Youth Soccer Day s hosted by Bethlehem Steel FC this season, with all three taking place against the club s newest opponents. Club teams from all around the Lehigh Valley are expected to provided a thrilling atmosphere for the contest. UPCOMING MEETINGS 6/4/17 BST 0 vs OTT 0 5 p.m. Goodman Stadium 8/5/17 BST 0 at OTT 0 2 p.m. TD Place Stadium STEEL FC CONCLUDES HOMESTAND WITH OTTAWA In Steel FC s only home match of June, the club will welcome Ottawa Fury FC for the first time to Goodman Stadium on Sunday, June 4. Sunday s contest marks the first of three new opponents for Steel FC in 2017, with Saint Louis FC (who joined the Eastern Conference this season) and Tampa Bay Rowdies joining Ottawa from the NASL to the league. The match marks the bookend of Steel FC s threegame homestand, in which the club bounced back from a 1-0 loss to conference leaders Charleston with a 3-1 victory over Harrisburg. GET TO KNOW USL NEWCOMER OTTAWA FURY FC Only in their fourth season of existence, Ottawa Fury FC has generated a lot of buzz in those years. After spending the previous three seasons in the NASL, Ottawa joined the USL this year. Ottawa is much like Steel FC, as it is an afflitate for an MLS Club. While Steel FC is partnered with the Philadelphia Union, Ottawa serves as the official USL-affliate of the Montreal Impact. Recently, Ottawa Fury battled MLS-power Toronto FC in the Canadian Championship, falling on aggregate 5-2. THEY SAID... Bethlehem Steel FC head coach Brendan Burke: On the results last week The Charleston game obviously we weren t happy with the output in the final third and that was the talking point between games. I think we walked away from the Harrisburg game comfortably saying that there were six or seven real high quality goal scoring opportunities and it led to three goals. It was a difficult week turning around from traveling and then coming home and playing on a Thursday morning at 11 a.m. I think we were up for the game and dictated the match for the first 15-20 minutes but let ourselves down. On playing Ottawa Fury FC for the first time We will have to rely on our structure and keep shape. On the flip side we ll have to control the flow of the game and keep meaningful possession to pin them back. In terms of the personnel, we ll be preparing for older, more experienced team. Ottawa is a pretty seasoned team. On the play of Union Academy midfielder Dawson McCartney in his first starts He played two different positions in two games and I thought he was really good with his use of the ball. He covered a lot of ground because he is willing runner and defender. He did exactly what we tell the players all the time, which is to grab the opportunity when it comes. People are going to chances in our lineup and when their number is called, players need to be prepared and use all the training we put in. Dawson did it last week and I m really proud of that.
