South Range Local Schools K-12 Newsletter October 2015 Inside this issue: Elementary School 2 Middle School 4 High School 6 K-12 7. a school family serving children and those who love them

SRE Cheer Camp Principal s Message The staff and I would like to thank our students and parents for a wonderful beginning to the school year. The attendance at kindergarten orientation and open house, as well as the grade level parent nights was excellent! Our students picked up right where they left off after our break in September and they did not miss a beat. They have been trying their best to be good listeners in the classroom and throughout the school. It is very important as we continue through the year for all of us to set good examples for our children. We can do this by reading and studying with them everyday, emphasizing the importance of a good education and supporting school-related activities. It is important to set goals with your child for the rest of the school year and explain your own expectations to your children. Parent involvement has such a positive impact on a child s performance in school and we hope that your involvement will motivate your children to achieve throughout the school year. South Range Elementary Cheer Camp for all K-4 girls will be October 19 & 21 after school until 4:30 p.m. The girls will cheer at the Friday, October 23 football game against Southern Local. More information will be coming home with details about the camp and the game. Student Absences When your child is absent from school, remember to call the office at 330-549-5578 between 7:20-8:20 a.m. The absence will be marked as unexcused until your child returns to school with a parent note or a doctor s excuse. At that time, the absence will be changed to excused. See page 9 of our Student/ Parent Handbook for more details. Fall Costume Parade All K-4 students may participate in our Fall Costume Parade on Friday, October 30, beginning at 1:00 p.m. This year the students may dress in an appropriate costume. Costumes must be in accordance with our school dress code and may not contain weapons or anything bloody, violent or gory. Sincerely, Steve Matos, Principal Camp Fitch Fourth grade students will attend Camp Fitch on October 21-23. The cost for camp this year is $118.00. The final payment and forms are due Friday, October 9. Any questions about Camp Fitch, please call the office at 330-549-5578. 2

Calendar of Events October 2 Interim Reports will be sent home today. 9 Final payment and forms for the fourth grade Camp Fitch trip are due today. Total cost for the trip is $118.00. 13 PTO Meeting at 7:00 p.m. in the media center. 16 NEOEA DAY. School Notes Please include as much information as possible when sending notes for the office to school with your child. Notes should always include the first and last name of the parent and the student. Also, please include the name of your child s teacher and grade. If you are sending in money, please let us know exactly what the money is for. Also, when sending in notes for Before & After Care, please specify if it is for the North Lima, Greenford/Small Wonders, or South Range Before & After Care. Thank You! Message from the Nurse, Kim Peterson R.N. A reminder to all parents/guardians, immunizations must be up to date and on file at the Elementary School by October 9, 2015. If your child s records are not up to date they will be exempt from school beginning October 14, 2015. Hearing and vision screenings were started in September and will finish in October for all new students and all first and third grade students. If there are any concerns, I will call you and a referral letter will be sent home. A friendly reminder, as stated in the school handbook, all students are to wear socks to school. This helps prevent many injuries. Please see that your child wears socks daily. If you have any questions, I may be reached daily at 330-549-4079. An Important Message from Safe Kids Worldwide *All kids under the age of 13 should be riding in the BACK SEAT. *Everyone in the vehicle must BUCKLE UP! *Everyone must use designated CROSSWALKS *Be sure your child meets the height & weight requirements for their car seat, booster seat or seatbelt. Sixth Grade Team Building Retreat On October 13, our sixth grade students will participate in a field trip to Camp Frederick. This field trip, sponsored by Student Council, is organized and facilitated by Mrs. Petit, the Sixth Grade Staff, Mr. Landry and the High School RISK team and advisors, as well as the staff at Camp Frederick. Students will be divided in to small groups and participated in a series of energetic, team-building activities to promote cooperation and tolerance and empower students to decrease or eliminate bullying. The activities, both indoors and outdoors, encourage the students to communicate and work together to solve a variety of problems or challenges. 6 th graders enjoy working with the high school students and learn how positive comments and helping each other lend itself to a successful team. Upcoming Craft Show The largest fundraiser for the Middle School will be coming up on Sunday Nov. 1, 2015. Normally we hold this fundraiser in the spring at South Range School, but this year we are trying a different direction.
