2018-19 Registration Guide Welcome to Tornado Youth Hockey! If you re new to hockey and want to participate in our Try Hockey For Free session (Fall 2018) before officially registering, please scroll down to our Try Hockey For Free section for more details. If you re ready to register for the 2018-2019 season, continue reading here! Location check! Before you register with TYH, let s make sure you re registering with the correct association! It is the goal of Tornado Youth Hockey to provide a quality youth hockey experience for skaters who live in the Onalaska, Holmen and G-E-T communities. Our intention is not to release any player from our association to another association OR accept another player from a neighboring association except under the most unusual of circumstances. The board reserves the right to review requests, which must be submitted in writing to the president. Coulee Region Girls 14U, 12U and 10U are open to all girls in the Seven Rivers Region. How do I register my skater? Registration for all players, all levels, returning and new, opens online Aug. 15, 2018. The process starts on the TYH website. Find your level and follow the registration steps below. And, read through our FAQs below the registration information! Returning Mites (birth years 2010 and after) Step 1: visit http://www.tornadoyouthhockey.org/registration/ and register your skater (opens Aug. 15, 2018). While registering, you ll be prompted to visit USA Hockey to register your skater with that organization (necessary for TYH registration). Step 2: attend Registration Days to complete your registration. Attend either Aug. 22, 2018, 5-7 p.m. or Aug. 28, 2018, 6-8 p.m. (Omni Center). Bring your skater fees, fundraising payment and Season 2018/19 Registration Packet printed during the online registration process. *Please be sure to include your USA Hockey number confirmation sheet in your packet! Step 3: attend Returning Mite Placement Night (skaters) and Returning Mite Parent Meeting, Oct. 25, 5-6 p.m. (Omni Center). New Mites (birth years 2010 and after) Step 1: visit http://www.tornadoyouthhockey.org/registration/ and register your skater (opens Aug. 15, 2018). While registering, you ll be prompted to visit USA Hockey to register your skater with that organization (necessary for TYH registration). Learn to Skate program (at least 4 years old by Dec. 31, 2018 and older) If you re looking for basic skating skills for your skater (and a shorter season), our Learn to Skate program is for you. Our Learn to Skate program focuses on those taking their early steps on the ice. All your skater needs is a helmet and skates! Our Learn to Skate participants will join certified Learn to Skate USA instructors November-December. If you d like to try hockey first, scroll down to our Try Hockey For Free section (you can register after you try it)! If you know the Learn to Skate season is for your skater Step 1: visit http://www.tornadoyouthhockey.org/registration/ and register your skater (opens Aug. 15, 2018). While registering, you ll be prompted to visit USA Hockey to register your skater with that organization (necessary for TYH registration). Step 2: attend Registration Days to complete your registration. Attend either Aug. 22, 2018, 5-7 p.m. or Aug. 28, 2018, 6-8 p.m. (Omni Center). New and Returning: Squirts (2008-2009), Peewees (2006-2007) and Bantams (2004-2005) Step 1: visit http://www.tornadoyouthhockey.org/registration/ and register your skater (opens Aug. 15, 2018). While registering, you ll be prompted to visit USA Hockey to register your skater with that organization (necessary for TYH registration). Step 2: attend Registration Days to complete your registration. Attend either Aug. 22, 2018, 5-7 p.m. or Aug. 28, 2018, 6-8 p.m. (Omni Center). Bring your skater fees, fundraising payment and Season 2018/19 Registration Packet printed during the online registration process. *Please be sure to include your USA Hockey number confirmation sheet in your packet! A late registration fee of $50 will be assessed for skaters registering after Oct. 1, 2018. Step 3: attend pre-tryout practices (watch for dates) and tryouts: Oct. 21 for Squirts and Peewees and Oct. 15 and 17 for Bantams (two nights). Coulee Region Girls Teams 14U (2004-2005), 12U (2006-2007) and 10U (2008-2009) The girls teams are open to all female players in the Coulee Region. The Coulee Region Girls teams co-op with West Salem Youth Hockey. Ice time will be split between both rinks. Registration for all levels for the girls teams closes Sept. 30. You will be notified immediately following closure regarding team status. If we are unable to fill a team, you re eligible for a full refund. If you re TYH-eligible (you live in Holmen, Onalaska or GET) and choose to play TYH Squirts, Peewees, or Bantams, we will transfer your registration fees at the appropriate rate. You will then attend pre-tryout practices and tryouts. 4

When you register for the Girls teams through Tornado Youth Hockey, you make a commitment to the team. The team will count on your skater s presence at all games and tournaments. We ask that you don t attempt to split time between two teams. Step 1: visit http://www.tornadoyouthhockey.org/registration/ and register your skater (opens Aug. 15, 2018). While registering, you ll be prompted to visit USA Hockey to register your skater with that organization (necessary for TYH registration). Step 2: attend Registration Days to complete your registration. Attend either Aug. 22, 2018, 5-7 p.m. or Aug. 28, 2018, 6-8 p.m. (Omni Center). Bring your skater fees, fundraising payment and Season 2018/19 Registration Packet printed during the online registration process. *Please be sure to include your USA Hockey number confirmation sheet in your packet! Step 3: attend pre-season practices (watch for dates) Will there be a girls option at the Mite level (2010 and after)? Later in the season we will gauge interest in forming a Mite girls team to play in a jamboree. For now, register your skater for TYH Mites if you live in Onalaska, Holmen or GET (if outside those areas, register your Mite with your local hockey association). 5

FAQs Can my new skater try hockey first? Yes. TYH offers a Try Hockey For Free program as an opportunity for new skaters to try hockey before officially registering. Registration for new skaters only will open again after that event. Scroll down to our Try Hockey for Free section below. What level is my player? Learn to Skate season (Nov.-Dec.):new skaters at least 4 years old (by Dec. 31, 2018) and older Mites: born 2010 and after Squirts: born 2008-2009 Peewees: born 2006-2007 Bantams: born 2004-2005 Coulee Region Girls 14U: born 2004-2005 Coulee Region Girls 12U: born 2006-2007 Coulee Region Girls 10U: born 2008-2009 What are the fees? Try Hockey For Free 3-Day Program $0 (see Try Hockey For Free section) Learn to Skate program (Nov-Dec season): $59* Mites-New (Nov - Feb season): $129* Mites-Returning (Nov-Feb season): $219* Squirts: $420* Peewees: $470* Bantams: $520* Girls 10U: $420* Girls 12U: $470* Girls 14U: $520* *2018-2019 fees are due at registration and can be paid in full or in four installments. Installment plan: post-date checks Oct. 15, 2018, Nov. 15, 2018, Dec. 15, 2018 and Jan. 15, 2019. No checks? We ask that you pay in full with a money order or a cashier s check. Or, request checks from your bank. 6

Note: Coulee Region Girls Teams prices may decrease based on registration numbers. If that is the case, TYH will refund you the difference. USA Hockey membership fee Registration with USA Hockey is required and is an additional $50 paid directly to that organization (separate from your TYH fees). Each participant registering to play or coach will pay the USA Hockey fee (fee is waived for skaters age 6 ((birth year 2012)) and younger but registration with USA Hockey is still required). Learn To Skate program Our Learn to Skate season starts with a parent meeting, Oct. 25, 6-7 p.m. (Omni Center) and then runs November - December. Mites For Returning Mites, the season starts with the Placement and Parent Meeting on Oct. 25 from 5-6 p.m. (Omni Center). 7

For New Mites, the season starts with the Parent Meeting, Oct. 25 from 6-7 p.m. (Omni Center). The Mite seasons run between Nov. 1 and Feb. 3. Beginner Mites, Intermediate and Advanced Mites can expe ct 30 practices during the season. All practices are voluntary. Your child will benefit from maximum ice time, but there is no penalty for missed practices. In addition to practices, all mite levels will participate in three to five Hockey Jamborees, including the home jamboree. Pending Wisconsin Ameteur Hockey Association (WAHA) approval and tournament availability, an away tournament may be added to the schedule for our Mite skaters born in 2010. Squirts, Peewees and Bantams Tryout practices will be held in the fall (watch for dates). Tryouts are Oct. 21 for Squirts and Peewees and Oct. 15 and 17 for Bantams (two nights). The season runs between Nov. 1, 2018 and March 2019. Coulee Region Girls 10U, 12U and 14U With enough participation, the season will run between Nov. 1, 2018 and March 2019. Pre-season practices will be available in the fall. What are the additional family fundraising commitments/ volunteer obligations? The board has selected the Dick s Sporting Goods Raffle as the organization s primary fundraiser. Family obligations are as follows: Learn to Skate program No additional commitments New Mites 10 service hours, $200 in Dick s Sporting Goods Raffle tickets*, jamboree volunteering 8

Returning Mites 20 service hours, $200 in Dick s Sporting Goods Raffle tickets*, jamboree volunteering Squirts, Peewees, Bantams, Girls 10U, 12U and Girls 14U 20 service hours, $200 in Dick s Sporting Goods Raffle tickets*, home game and tournament coordination. Note, if your family is new to TYH, your service hour obligation is 10 hours. *Raffle tickets payment, $200, will be collected at registration. Please postdate your check 1/31/2019. **Incomplete services hours will be billed at $25 per hour and must be paid prior to next season registration. Visit the Tornado Youth Hockey website at http://www.tornadoyouthhockey.org/ and the Wisconsin Ameteur Hockey Association website at http://www.waha-hockey.com/. Also feel free to contact any TYH board member, http://www.tornadoyouthhockey.org/contacts/. What is the refund policy? Fees will be refunded only when a player is injured and cannot continue the season, and then only on a prorated basis. For example, if the regular season is 18 weeks and a player is injured at 12 weeks, the refund is calculated by taking the 6 weeks they missed divided by 18 to get a 33% refund. If the skater fees were $370.00 the refund would be $122.10 ($370 X.33). Players who are eligible to tryout for high school teams may register with USA Hockey and TYH and skate with TYH until high school tryouts. In order to skate with TYH, the skater must have submitted registration fees in order to get on the ice with TYH. Player families are responsible to notify the Treasurer to request refunds and must do so within 30 days of player resignation or will forfeit their refund. All other requests for a refund must be submitted to the board in writing for approval. 9

Girls 14U, 12U and 10U: if TYH is unable to roster a team, you will be eligible for a full refund. What equipment does my player need? The Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association (WAHA) offers parents a guide to buying equipment. The guide, and a video on how to dress your skater, is available at http://www.waha-hockey.com/index.php?module=cms&page=270. For Learn to Skate participants, a helmet and skates are all you need. Is there equipment available to use? Yes, TYH has a limited supply of equipment available for rent to Mite-level skaters. This is on a first come first serve basis. Try Hockey For Free To register your skater for our Try Hockey for Free 3-evening session, visit http://www.tornadoyouthhockey.org/learn-skate/ If you choose to join TYH after your 3-evening session, you ll register online. You will have the option to register for the full New Mite season (Nov-Feb. 3) or the Learn to Skate program that focuses on the fundamentals of skating (Nov-Dec).
