About: The club is a relatively new group on campus. We compete through IHSA (Intercollegiate Horse Show Association). One of the best things about this club is that you do not need a horse, or have any riding experience. In IHSA riders are assigned a horse based on their skill level and will be judged on their equitation (or how they look on a horse). Members can be either competing or non-competing. It is a personal choice for each member if they wish to compete or not. Members who compete travel to shows and can show English, Western or both. We show at colleges across the Pacific Northwest including LBCC, WWU, UW, UO, and OSU. Our show season runs from September to March. During show season we have weekly ride nights where both competing and non competing members get to practice for shows. Page 2 of 5

We also offer private lessons with any of our senior members. Lessons are $10.00 for an hour, and the money goes back into the club fund for social events. Members who chose to not compete are more than welcome to join us for ride nights and will have numerous chances to get on a horse. Our horses are all personally owned by members, meaning we have no university owned horses. Each member is responsible for their monthly board check, any other horse expenses. We also have no professional coach. Our coach is a CWU student just like every other member which is a very unique thing to have in an IHSA club. History: The club at CWU was established in 2006 by a group of dedicated horse lovers who wanted to be able to bring the world of competitive riding to CWU. We are now one of the largest active clubs at the university with a strong group of about 30 members who are dedicated students who have big plans for our future. Page 3 of 5

Highlights: The CWU Team had their best year yet in 2017-2018! Winning reserve team high point at our home western show was just the beginning. We went on to win more reserve high points and high points at English shows, and for the first time in team history won the overall high point English team for our region. We took 4 members to compete at IHSA Zones hosted by Stanford University. Additionally, two riders qualified individually to compete at Western Semi Finals in New York. Overall it was a great year with fantastic placings and much improvement from all members. Practice information: Our practices, or ride nights, are typically done on a bi-weekly basis during the show season. Because we are a completely student run club there is no dedicated day for practice as we have to work around class and work schedules. We plan ride nights at our weekly meetings and try to best accommodate everyone s busy schedule. Competition Schedule: Our show season is Fall and Winter quarter. We may have shows at the start of spring quarter depending on how well we do during the regular season. Shows during our season are held all across the Pacific Northwest, from Vancouver Canada to Eugene Oregon. In spring quarter shows will be held as far away as Pennsylvania.
