SHUFFLE N..SHUFFLE N Just over a year ago, we were approached by a group of Shuffleboard players who wanted to shuffle at the Centre twice a week. They joined up with the group of shufflers we already had on Tuesdays and started shuffling every Tuesday and Friday. According to the records, in one year we had 1100 shufflers! That does not include the tournaments. We have also had two tournaments in the past year and a Friendship Tournament is scheduled for October 19th. All of this helps to generate revenue for us. We had a number of new members join so they could play Shuffleboard. Plus, each time the participants paid a fee to play, and then, they all stayed for coffee. The tournaments brought lots of extra people in to our cafeteria as well. The Shuffleboard Association has a number of exciting ideas up their sleeves for the coming year. 2019 will be the 25th year of Shuffling in Moose Jaw and it promises to be a big year for shuffleboard! Thanks to this group for choosing Timothy Eaton s Activity Centre to play each week. Together we make a great team! Page 2

NEW PROGRAM FLOOR CURLING We were recently approved for a grant from the Community Initiatives Fund for $5000 to start a new Floor Curling Program. Floor Curling is a modified version of the Olympic sport of curling with one major difference no ice! Floor curling is becoming popular at seniors centres as it promotes flexibility, increased range of motion, and circulation. The sport is also becoming popular with participants with disabilities, as it allows players of all abilities to compete on a level playing field. Pusher sticks, which allow participants, including those in wheelchairs, to easily deliver the floor curling rocks without bending to floor level, are used. Starting Friday September 7th we will be offering floor curling from 1:00-3:00 pm. Marie Wright, Olympic Bronze Medalist from the Paralympic Curling Team will provide instruction and assistance. If you would like to try it out be sure to sign up on the signup sheets at the front desk. Remember, the first 3 times are FREE! The cost of the program is just $2 each week. So join us for an afternoon of fun and entertainment! Page 5
