WELCOME TO THE SEASON Welcome to all our new and returing players as well as parents/guardians and thank you for joining Phoenix for the 2017 season! Phoenix is now in its ninth year and our Club gets stronger each year due ot the continued support of our players, parents/guardians, coaches, managers, umpires and volunteers. In fact in 2016 we saw 3 of our 8 competitive teams make it to the grand finals, an amazing achievement. In addition, a number of our umpires achieved higher umpiring badge levels, resulting in one Silver badged umpire, 2 Gold badged umpires and one C badged umpire. The development of our coaches and umpires will be a major focus again this year for our Club and because of this we believe 2017 will be another successful season. We as a committee are here to ensure our players have the best possible experience and enjoyment playing netball. All the Phoenix committee members have many years of experience in the exciting game of netball and we look forward to helping you/your child have a wonderful and fulfilling experience in 2017. We are always looking for new members, ideas and support so if you are interested in helping out in some way (big or small) for the 2017 season, then please contact us: via email - phoenixnetballclubgc@gmail.com or find us on Facebook - Phoenix Netball Club - Gold Coast Inc Please save the date! Our Welcome to the Season BBQ will be held after training on the 1 st of March (approx. 6pm). Come and help us celebrate the start of what we hope will be a fantastic season for Phoenix. Its a great opportunity for our players and their families to get to know each other, as well as practice the PHOENIX WAR CRY in preparation for the start of season march past. We look foward to seeing you there. Kind Regards, The Phoenix Committee. 3 P a g e

SUPPORTING PHOENIX Umpiring Interested in umpiring? Please email the club at phoenixnetballclubgc@gmail.com. Level 1 course available online at www.netball.com.au. Level 1 course needs to be completed before umpiring can begin. Coaching / Managing Your children need YOU! If you are a parent you can do this, after all you have an abundance of multi-tasking skillsets under your belt already. This can be a fun activity and you get to be a great role model for your kids. Seriously, your children need you as a mum or dad to volunteer and have a go. Participation not Perfection is being asked from you. Please talk to either Hannah, Andrea, Dee, Michael or Amanda on your committee about these rewarding and critical roles. The committee can provide training to get you started and ongoing support throughout the year. Club Duty Day Every club has a duty day during the season. Phoenix s club duty day has been scheduled for the Saturday the 24 th of June (Round 12) this season. Duty day responsibilities generally include; setting up the courts with post pads, bringing in post pads after the last games are played, putting out and emptying bins, keeping the grounds clean and helping in the canteen. Club duty day is also a great opportunity to fundraise for our club, this is when we will host our Bake Sale. Your help on this day is appreciated! A roster, per team, will be provided to your team manager closer to the day. REPRESENTATIVE NETBALL NGCNA representative trials are held towards the end of the year. The NGCNA typically holds player development programs prior to trials. Please contact the NGCNA for more information on representative netball trials and player development programs. 11 P a g e

CODES OF CONDUCT It is important for all players, parents and supporters of Phoenix to understand our Codes of Conduct. Our Codes of Conduct are in place to protect and support our players, coaches, managers, umpires and all members of our club. We appreciate you taking the time to read and understand the below. Players Code of Conduct PLAY BY THE RULES AT ALL TIMES. NEVER ARGUE WITH GAME OFFICIALS. If you disagree with or are unclear on a decision, have your captain, coach or team manager approach the office during a break or after the game to seek clarification. Make sure you know what the rules are because often not knowing the correct or current rules can cause frustration and unrest. SHOW RESPECT FOR YOUR COACH. All coaches freely volunteer their time to assist players to develop their netball skills. Without them there would be no team. BE A GOOD SPORT AT ALL TIMES. Applaud all good play whether it is a by your team or the opposition. Work equally hard for yourself and your team. Your team s performance will benefit and so will you. SOCIAL MEDIA - BE MINDFUL OF OTHERS AND POSSIBLE LEGAL RAMIFICATIONS; be positive and treat all with dignity and respect, under NO circumstances use social media to create, incite, or sustain conflict, or to bring your Netball Club or the game of Netball into disrepute. DO NOT INTERFERE WITH, INTIMIDATE, BULLY OR TAKE UNFAIR ADVANTAGE OF ANY OTHER PLAYER. Treat all players with respect. I have read the Players Code of Conduct and understand that any breech of the code may result in but is not limited to: a) A written warning, or b) Dismissal from the club 12 P a g e

Parents and Spectators Code of Conduct SHOW RESPECT FOR ALL COACHES AND CLUB OFFICIALS. Remember that all positions are unpaid and the club would not exist without our volunteers. Abuse or intimidation will not be tolerated from players, parents or spectators. Parents are expected to model the behaviour we want of our players. NEVER ARGUE WITH A GAME OFFICIAL. This is not acceptable behaviour at a game and not the example we want to set for our players. If you have any concerns or questions, please raise these with the coach or team manager after the game. ENCOURAGE PLAYERS to always participate according to the rules. NEVER RIDICULE OR ABUSE ANY PLAYER, particularly for making a mistake or losing a game. MODEL APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR TO ALL. Applaud good plays by all players and encourage all players. Children learn best from examples and remember that children are involved in the sport for their enjoyment, not yours. FOCUS ON EFFORTS AND PARTICIPATION rather than the outcome and teach children that an honest effort is as important as a victory. This will assist in setting goals related to ability, by reducing undue disappointment and the emphasis on winning. If children are interested, encourage them to participate. If they re not willing or not interested, don t force them or they may never learn to enjoy the game. I have read the Parent s Code of Conduct and understand that any breach of the code may result in but is not limited to: a) A written warning, or b) A ban on my attendance at training sessions and/or games, or c) My child being dismissed from the Club Any such actions will be at the discretion of the Executive Committee of the Phoenix Netball Club, and in the event of dismissal there will not be any reimbursement of membership fees. 13 P a g e
