Around The Courts GPCC NETBALL CLUB NEWS ROUNDS 1+2 2017 Welcome to the 2017 Season! Our season started with the traditional Marchpast at Adcock Park. Each Club parades around the courts to officially open the season and weren t we wonderful in our red, white and black! Thank you to everyone who turned out to represent GPCC Netball Club - especially to our parents for getting us there so early. We had many comments from other clubs on how well the girls marched together and how happy all our players looked. From our little 7 year olds through to our more mature high school players and even Mrs Paterson! Thank you also to our Committee members who helped get us in order and organised. It is wonderful to see how out little club is growing and to have an opportunity to see players from the different teams together. Have wonderful season - play fair, have fun and most of all look after each other on and off the courts. Faces of Green Point Christian College Netball Club
7s Angels: What an amazing start to the season our little Angels have had! With 3 training sessions and a Netta Gala Day under their belts we have seen such a great improvement from all of the girls in just a few short weeks. They are feeling more confident with the ball and knowing where their positions are on the court. This week we had: - our first goal shot by Arianna - woo-hoo!! - amazing defence by Poppy, Lexi, Bella and Aly - Ellen, Mikaylah, Ava and Sarah coming forward in attack to get the ball - great work girls :) Keep up the great team work, we are loving seeing you all so excited and keen on game day! Not to mention your parents cheering on the sidelines. Coaches: Peta and Suzie. PLAY @ HOME Simple ways to practise netball at home: grab a parent/brother/sister and pass the ball to each other - practise chest passes, shoulder passes and bounce passes from all different angles if you are practising by yourself, bounce the ball off a brick wall - throw the ball to different heights and catch the rebound, try to jump, catch and land as a shooter you simply need practice, practice, practice! Try to shoot goals from different distances - mark positions on the ground (with chalk, sticks, small stones) at different distances from the goal post (one step, two steps etc) and in different directions work on your defence by shooting (or throwing the ball in the air) and jumping for rebounds build your stamina and fitness with a brisk walk, jog on the spot, skipping, quick sprints from one spot to another and back ask your coach what you need to work on The more you practise at home the more comfortable and confident you will be with handling the ball at training and games! 12s Glow: On April 2, U12 Glow participated in the Peninsula All Age Gala Day at Ettalong. They came a stunning third overall after winning 3 games easily and then losing to an incredibly strong Terrigal team and going down in extremely close game against the Port Stephen s Rep team. It was the first time that the girls had played together this season and they really enjoyed getting back out onto the courts and having fun with their teammates. The weather was inclement and the girls played some of their games in the pouring rain. Congratulations to Chloe for playing so well in her first ever netball game (or five!) and to the rest of the team for representing GPCCNC with such grace and good sportsmanship. Round 2 was the first official game of the season for Glow because they had a bye in Round 1. They took on their Grand Final Rivals from last year, Apollo, and showed determination and teamwork to take the win convincingly. Gem, Jules and Jenna were guns in defence and the Anni, Jess and Jess show continued to work in the attack. Well done to Liv, Chloe, Nakira and Ella on keeping the centre court under control. What a great start to the season. I am proud of your commitment to your team, Glow girls, and for never giving up even in that hot weather. Thanks as always to the mums and dads too for all your sideline support. Coach: Meredith.
8s Lavagirls: The Lavagirls have won the last couple of games! They are playing well as a team learning more about the game every week. Our player of the week last week was Grace. Grace did really well with defence and equally as well with her attacking, even managing a few goals! Keep it up Lavagirls! Coach: Bek. 15s Wildfire: Wow, what a start to the season we had. The girls had a huge win on the first day of play. Unfortunately during the game our C twisted her ankle, and could not continue to play, which left us with no reserve. The girls put in everything they had and used every little bit in reserve. They played an outstanding game. Our defence was strong and the shooters could not miss. It was a fantastic team effort to finish off the game more than 30 points in the lead. Unfortunately due to injury and illness for game two, we were missing two key mid court players for Round 2. The girls tried hard, but the game just didn t have the flow like the previous week and our opponents ran away with the game. It was a gallant defeat. I have high hopes for this awesome team. It looks to be a really good competition this season for the Wildfires. Coach: Tina. 10B Firecrackers: The 10B Firecrackers have had a fantastic start to the season! Our first game was a 2-2 draw. The girls passed well, found spaces to break to and really tried hard. Our player of the match was Laine for her amazing defending and breaking. We lost by only 2 goals in Round 2 - we were even at 3/4 break! The entire team played such a beautiful game. Super breaking, positioning and great team work! Our player of the week was Charlee. She impressed us with her breaking and passing, especially up the defence end where she was an amazing support. Well done Firecrackers on a great start to the season. We are so proud of each of you. Coaches: Kellie and Jane. 13B Blaze: Welcome to the team girls! These last few weeks have been great fun. I have enjoyed teaching you various skills and I can already see the improvements you have all made. I have loved your enthusiasm so far and can see you are all willing to try new positions and techniques. This has been demonstrated on the court, as we have a really strong defence that intercepts the ball really well, and amazing attack players that have been great at passing down the court and scoring. We have significantly improved in our passing and positioning on court and I am very excited to see what else you can all individually bring to our team. Coach: Lily
8s Firegirls: U17 Flames: This newly formed team has been a delight to coach so far. With a mix of skill and ability I think we have found where each player works in the team. The Flames had a 7 point loss for game one. The midday heat proved to be a bit much for some of the girls. All in all, for the first game played together as a team and the weather conditions, I was really proud of how the girls played and swapped positions without question. We certainly found a rhythm for game two. The girls looked awesome and came away with a win. One player made mention that it was the first netball game she had ever won. That comment alone made my day as a coach. This team has so much potential. I m looking forward to a great season with this bunch of beautiful girls - the Flames! Coach: Tina 13A Firebirds: The 13A Firebirds have been working super hard these last few weeks! This season has been a challenge so far with the tough competition but the girls are working and playing super well! They are going to keep working hard through the season and continue to put 100% into their games! I am super proud of the team already. First week we versed Terrigal, they didn t give up in the heat and kept going the whole game. In round 2 we versed Kariong with two players down and it was a bit of a physical game but the girls played beautifully and put in the effort! Keep going Firebirds - we got this!. Coach: Beth
