GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE Howdy Folks, The golf season is off to a great start. The early spring rains and warmer temperatures in April have helped to make the golf course green and growing. And May will be a busy month with the start of our driving range project. Mike Epps Golf Course Superintendent The driving range project will consist of leveling the tees at the west end, artificial hitting mats at the back of the west end tee, new elevated target greens for the fairway, a renovated short game area with the new USGA green, and a new larger USGA green next to the golf shop cart staging area. The construction process and grass grow-in process will run May through August. I will keep you updated with our weekly e-blast as we progress with the project. The west end tees will be leveled and lowered roughly 18 as the tee has grown over 24 in height since 1986 when it was built. The material that is removed will be used to help construct the elevated target greens on the fairway portion. The target greens will be elevated roughly two to three feet and will also have target bunkers built into them. At the back of the lower tee there will be a new artificial hitting mat area installed that can be used for poor weather days, golf outings, over seeding and to help out turf conditions as needed. The short game area will have an improved layout to allow for more uses and will improve playing conditions with a larger green, built to USGA standards. The small putting green outside golf shop cart staging area will be replaced with a much larger green that will also be built following USGA standards. In all of these areas, irrigations and drainage improvements are also being implemented to improve playing conditions. As always I hope to see you out on the golf course soon, and my goal is to have golf course in the best condition possible every day for your enjoyment. If you have any questions or concerns please call or e-mail me (817-294-6615, mepps@miravistacountryclub.com ) or come ride the course with me, I ll buy the coffee. Thank you for your time, Michael L. Epps
