Comet Connection January 11, 2018 Dear Saint Pius X Family and Friends, I appreciate your patience and understanding this past week as we move through the winter months. Please know that we do our very best to hold school if at all possible. Making the decision about whether or not to hold school on these strange weather days is always very difficult. We are lucky that we do not have to worry about busses, but we do have to worry about the safety of our students, families, faculty, and staff. Please make sure to always check your email, the school website, and television news stations about the status of start and end times when ice and or snow are in the forecast. Next Thursday, January 18 th you should receive your child s progress reports via email as we are half way through our second trimester of the school year. This means we are officially half way through our school year. Wow, the time has flown and hopefully you have had a chance to talk with your students teachers regarding child s progress. Please know that if you ever have concerns or questions about your student, do not hesitate to contact your student s teacher or teachers. Email is usually the best way to contact teachers. All teachers email addresses are listed on our school website, but generally each person s email is the first initial of their first name along with their last name and the ending spxschool.com, such as aflynt@spxschool.com. We do not have scheduled teacher conferences for this trimester unless there is a special request from either the teacher or the parent. Please read the upcoming email from Annie Vorys, who has graciously agreed to lead our spring fundraiser, entitled Grandstand Gala 2018. The date is Saturday, May 5, 2018 in the Simmons Parish Center. It is sure to be a fun event for our school community. If you would like to volunteer to help, please do not hesitate to contact Annie so you can be included in future meetings. Our Geography Bee will be held next week on Wednesday, January 17 for students in grades four through eight. Students are currently being tested on their geography skills in those grade levels and the finalists from each homeroom will compete on Wednesday. It is sure to be an interesting event. Catholic School s Week will begin the week of January 28 th. Included in our many events will be tours of the DeJoy Primary Education Center on Sunday, January 28 th from 10:15 am to 11:30 am as well as an Open House on Wednesday, January 31 st from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. Please invite your neighbors and friends to come visit our beautiful school facility. All are welcome! Cheerfully in Christ, Ann G. Flynt Principal, M.Ed.
