Important information for Parents Redbanks require that an indemnity and waiver form be signed in order for a child to participate in the activity described in it. This form is to be signed by the child s parent/guardian. By signing the form, you are waiving certain rights you have against the provider of the service to your child and indemnifying it against any loss or damage suffered by it as a result of a claim or proceedings in certain circumstances. At law where one person suffers a loss (such as personal injury) as a result of the actions or lack of action of another, then the person who suffers loss may be able to recover that loss. The law permits parties by an agreement to contract away these rights by an agreement. This is in law called a waiver. The law also permits, by agreement between the parties, a promise by one party (Party A) to reimburse another (Party B) in respect of a specific loss suffered by Party B as a result of a particular event. This is in law called an indemnity. The College is unable to give you any advice about the effect on your rights of signing the indemnity and waiver form. You should consider your personal circumstances and satisfy yourself whether you need to obtain advice prior to signing the form. Jim Taylor Risk and Compliance Manager May 2016
