1. Contents a. Instrumented GaitKeeper Treadmill / Walking Surface. b. GaitSens 2.0 Software installed on Android tablet. c. Charger cord for tablet for Android tablet. IMPORTANT: GaitSens 2.0 is intended for light commercial, rehabilitation, and home use. 2. Quick Start Congratulations on the purchase of the GaitSens 2.0 gait analysis software designed specifically for the busy rehabilitation clinic. This quick reference guide will help you get your GaitSens running quickly. a. Plug the GaitSens enabled treadmill into an appropriate electrical outlet per the specifications of the treadmill. GaitSens is powered from the treadmill so does not require any additional outlet plug. b. Wait at least 15 seconds after the treadmill has been plugged in before opening the GaitSens application in the tablet for Android. c. Click on the GaitSens icon in the provided tablet. Within Bluetooth Range (Less than 30 feet away from treadmill) Outside Bluetooth Range (Greater than 30 feet away from treadmill) Initialize Treadmill i. Ensure treadmill is level with all four adjustable feet touching ground. ii. Remove all weight from the treadmill and ensure the treadmill is not touched during initialization iii. Press Initialize. Error Prompt to: Quit close out the treadmill application Run Disconnected Run the application without connection to review previously recorded sessions. Connect Attempt to reconnect. IMPORTANT: If the treadmill has been moved since the last use of GaitSens, for best results validate that the zero values are accurate. Complete Validation Instructions found on page 7. 4

Switch to BiSym App. To exit software select Quit or tablet Back icon. 5

5. Select User a. Therapist View - Select User Before Running Session START HERE Select a User Create a new user. NOTE: Select the preferred measurement units by following instructions on page 23.. The Selected User information is displayed here. b. Therapist View - Selecting User Information Select User from List of existing users. GaitSens will contain a Start Up user. Search for User Information using the initials, name or ID. c. Therapist View - Creating New User Each user profile must include the following. User ID Weight User ID must be unique to each user. The following user fields are optional. First Initial Last Initial Clinician 6

6. Validate Setup (Required only on first use) i. Select default user on the therapist view screen. ii. After the user has been selected, select start session icon to start session. Confirm that weight is reading properly by standing on each of the four corners of the treadmill walking surface. Review the weight value from the Weight Display in the bottom left window for each corner. Each corner should display the same weight reading within +/- 5 lbs. If one corner displays a weight that varies more than +/- 5 lbs, lower the respective adjustable feet until the reading is within the acceptable +/- 5 lbs range. Start Session iii. Repeat process once more to ensure that weight is within +/- 5lbs on each of the corners of the treadmill walking surface. iv. If it is not possible to reach the acceptable range for each of the four corners of the walking surface, recalibrate the GaitSens following the calibration instructions on page 25. If the treadmill does not calibrate properly, please contact the Mobility Research Service & Parts department at 1-800-332-9255. v. Press Stop Session to exit validation and return to the therapist view screen. 7. Therapist View a. Starting Session Start recording a new session for the current user. Load a previously recorded session for the current user. See Section 8.d regarding video capture Load a report if a previously recorded session for the current user. 7

7. Therapist View - Continued a. During Session Swing Phase Time: Bars show each step swing phase measurement in seconds. Total Weight Bearing: Table below shows weight. Butterfly shows position of center of mass as the user cycles through the gait phases (see pg. 26). Dashboard displays speed, distance, steps and steps per minute. Step Length: Bars shows each step length. Step Width: Step width shown in green. Note: Missed steps in the capture of the session will show as a gray bar in each of the measurement parameter boxes. b. During Session Elapsed Time Clock: Time since start of session. During Session - Video Enabled When video is enabled a preview will be shown in the video capture window. Select to analyze between Analyze either the entire duration markers session or the portion selected with Set In and Set Out. Compare results to previous sessions or a set of normal values (see reference section for definition of Normal values). To compare results to previous session, select the name of the session in the drop down in the top right corner. Select comparison data set. 11. Export Report a. Export Report Data - Generate a PDF and file of report data GaitSens 2.0 allows you to retrieve reports by emailing the report, saving the report and moving it to view on a desktop computer, or printing reports directly from your tablet. After selecting to view a report, select Export. The top line of the popup displayed the defaulted file name User ID-date-time. If desired you can over write this with a different file name. Email Report Print Report Save Report Enter preferred filed name for report data, or accept default. b. Print Report Data Directly from Tablet Plug the short mini USB cord adaptor into the tablet, unplug the USB from your printer, and plug the Tablet into the printer i. Select Save and Print to File 12

ii. Select Nearby USB Select your printer and print. c. Allow Print Share to access USB printer if applicable. d. Transfer to Desktop To transfer the report to a desktop computer, plug the long USB connector from the tablet to the USB port on your desktop. Navigate to the tablet, and locate the GaitSens 2.0 subfolder, and to the subfolder titled with User ID. Below you can see user ID of abcd. Select the PDF or CVS file and move to the desktop. 13

12. User View a. User View - Provides your user with real time audible and visual feedback. Select User View to go to the User View screen. Start Balance Preview Preview shows the position of the user s center of mass. Press to start preview mode. Center and Orientation 1. Position the user in the preferred standing position parallel or perpendicular to the sides of the treadmill. 2. Once stationary, press the icon to set the position of the user s center of mass. 3. Next, set the user s orientation by stepping in the region directly in front of the user. Step in front of user. Click to set center reference point 17

Test Conditions Use the balance mode conditions to record the user s physical stance configuration. Below is list of the standard feet positions commonly tested in the balance mode. For the Sway test, each condition can be set for recording with the user s eyes open or eyes closed. The sway mode duration can be adjusted to sessions of 30 seconds, 1 minute and 3 minutes. Summary Report - To compare multiple sessions, click the Button on the Balance mode screen. Select up to 5 sessions to view on a single chart. Select Sway Target Mode - Measures the user s active targeting distance towards changing set points Target Region User s Center of Mass 5 seconds before changing position, the target changes color from blue to red. Target measures distance from the user s center mass to a changing target region. 20

The target distance can be set to distances of 1, 2, and 3 inches away from the user s center of mass. Select Target Distance Session Report - Upon ending the session a session report will be generated summarizing the session. 14. Select Units a. Units can be changed by pressing the icon in the top right hand corner and selecting the DISPLAY UNITS option. Select DISPLAY UNITS S e l e c t t h e dimension to toggle the units for. Select the preferred units. 23

15. Importing Archived Users a. Therapist View - Import Archived Users On Main Therapist View Press and select Import Users. If Desired, i m p o r t p r e v i o u s l y archived users (optional). Identify Archived User by User ID. Each imported user requires completion of the user Weight. The First Initial and Last Initial fields are optional. b. Therapist View - Import Archived Users Return to Therapist View Delete User Import User 16. Updating GaitSens Using Google Play: The update through Google Play requires a Wi-Fi connection to the tablet and a Gmail account. After the tablet is connected to your Wi-Fi, open the Google Play app on the GaitSens tablet. In Google Play you then search GaitSens and download the software. You also can forward this email to the Google account and open the email on the tablet. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobilityresearch.treadmill3 Once located in Google Play, this should give you the option to install the update. Follow the instructions regarding the installation and open the GaitSens application. If you are unable to install the software, please feel free to contact us at 1-800-332-9255 for alternative update options. 24

17. Calibration NOTE: Calibration should only be performed if values are skewed. Errors in calibration procedure will effect captured data. For assistance during calibration process, please contact the Service & Parts department at 1-800-332-9255 EXT 7104. 1. Click to calibrate GaitSens. 2. Enter your weight. 3. The calibration will first ask for you to stand off of the treadmill. Additional weight to the treadmill will skew the calibration of the instrumentation. 4. Follow the calibration steps as shown below. 5. The final step asks for you to stand off of the treadmill. Additional weight to the treadmill will skew the calibration of the instrumentation. 6. Press Finish to complete calibration. NOTE: Upon completion of calibration a dialogue box will display the Total Calibration correction coefficient. This value is for Mobility Research Use only. If the calibration fails or if you are experiencing issues with the calibration process, please contact the Service & Parts department at 1-800-332-9255 EXT 7104. 25

19 - Reference - Normal Values Normal Values: Session results were gathered using a set of 30 "typical" adults who walked on a GaitSens enabled treadmill, at 5 different walking speeds (0.5mph, 1 mph,1.5 mph,2.0 mph, 2.5 mph). The software compares your user s data with the mean of the data collected from this normal population, based upon the average speed of the session. Limited Warranty Certificate GaitSens Instrumentation is covered under warranty for 1 year against all defects. Tablet issued for use with GaitSens will be compatible with updates to GaitSens software for a limited duration of 2 years after purchase. After 2 years it may be necessary for the customer to replace their tablet to use a GaitSens update. Tablet issued for use with GaitSens is limited to 3rd party tablet manufacturer specified warranty. No additional warranty is provided. Losses due to work stoppage, lost revenues, damages due to neglect or abuse ARE NOT covered by this warranty. Shipping and handling charges ARE NOT covered by this warranty. Tampering or modification on any and all components by unauthorized personnel is discouraged and will void your warranty.
