AIR LINE PURIFIERS FOR BREATHING EQUIPMENT AP-C RADEX INSTRUCTION MANUAL & PARTS 01-0-11
introduction CANABLAST BREATHING EQUIPMENT PURIFIER CAN BE USED IN CONBINATION WITH WITH OTHER SAFEGUARDS TO SUPPLY CLEANER AIR TO AIRLINE RESPIRATORS AND MANY PNEUMATIC TOOLS AND SYSTEMS. CANABLAST PURIFIERS ARE DESIGNED TO REMOVE 98 % OF PARTICLES DOWN TO 0. MICRON SIZE, BUT WILL NOT REMOVE CARBON MONOXIDE AND OTHER GASES FROM AIRLINE. SET UP 1. LOCATION : Select a flat, stable location to place the purifier. If the purifier will be used in a permanent location or if stabilty is a problem, the legs can be mounted on a flat surface.. HOOK-UP : Connect the piping coming from the compressor to the air inlet ( 1 NPT FEM ). Connect the airline hose that leads to your respirator or pneumatic cool to the purifier outlet. Tighten the connections to prevent leaks. IMPORTANT- WHEN USING A RESPIRATOR, DO NOT CONNECT THE PURIFIER ON ANY AIR SOURCE UNLESS YOU ARE CERTAIN IT CONTAINS BREATHABLE AIR. O P E R At I O N 1. AIR REQUIREMENTS a) Air source The law requires that when oil Iubrificated compressor are use as sources of breathing air,you must equip them with high temperature alarm or carbon monoxide monitors/alarm or both. If only a high temperature alarm is used, you must frequently test the compressor air for carbone monoxide to ensure it meets the Grade D requirements specified below. The law also requires that breathing air hose couplings be incompatible with ourlets for other gas systems in order to prevent accidental connection of a supplied air respirator to non-breathable gases or pure oxygen. b) Quality of breathing air Supplied breathing air passing through this purifier to respirator must meet at least the requirements for Type 1 gaseous air as described in the U. S. Compressed Gas Commodity Specification G.1 (Grade D or higher) as specified the in american federal law 0 CFR, Part 11, Subpart J, 11.11 (b). The Canablast airline purifier does not remove carbon monoxide and other toxic gases from the air being supplied. The requirements for Grade D breathable air include : Oxygen 19.-.0% Carbon Monoxide 0 ppm max. Carbon Dioxyde C0 1000 ppm max. Hydrocarbons (condensed) mg/m max. non-toxics contaminants at levels which would make the air unsafe to breathe. 01-0-11 APC & Radex - Instruction Manual & Parts
O P E R At I O N ( cont d ) c) Air Pressure The air pressure at purifier inlet should not exceed 100 psi. Air will be released by pressure relief valve when pressure within the purifier exceeds 1 psi. Air discharging from purifier can be controlled to meet air pressure requirements by using the pressure regulator adjustment knob. Refer to your respirator or pneumatic tool instruction manual to find the appropriate air pressure required for correct use of the equipment. d) Temperature Air supplied to purifier should not exceed 10 F (0 C). T herefore, do not comlect the purifier directly to compressor exhaust manifold.. CORRECT OPERATION PROCEDURES : a) Keep the drain valve slightly open to ensure a constant draining. This will keep water and oil from accumulating inside the tank, damaging the cartridge. b) Tighten the fasteners which secure the head of the purifier tank. Over time, the fasteners may loosen which could cause a leak in the air system. Standard tightness for fasteners of this type (/8, grade ) is 1 ft./lbs. warning This purifier does not remove carbon monoxyde and other toxic gases. warning USE ONLY CANABLAST FILTER CARTRIDGES AS REPLACEMENTS THESE PURIFIERS ARE DESIGNED TO use ONLY CANABLAST FILTER CARTRIDGES 01-0-11 APC & Radex - Instruction Manual & Parts
C A R T R I D G E R E P L AC E M E N T Replaceable filter cartridge -stage operation Cartridges effectively trap and remove 98% of impurities down to 0. micron in size, with little pressure Ioss. The compressor supplies air enters at inlet fitting (A) filters up throught filter materials and exits into hose connected to airline filter (B). All stages work in sequence to trap and hold water, oil particulates, odors and organic vapors so that cleailer air is delivered to workers or equipment. 1. Water is removed by vortex action of air in outer cylinder. B A. Carded cotton removes particles.. Activated alumina absorbs oil and moisture.. Felt material removes particulates.. Activated charcoal removes odors and moisture.. Carded cotton removes more particulates. Respiratory felt at final stage operates at 98% efficiency down to 0. micron size. The frequency of filter cartridge replacement depends on the condition of the particular air system in which the purifier is installed. However, the filter cartridge should be replaced immediately if : a) The user smells or tas tes contaminants in the air being supplied to an air supplied respirator, or : b) There is a large pressure drop in the system, even though the compressor and other components appear to be operating correctly. CORRECTIVE ACTION 1. Shut off air supply and drain filter. Disconnect the purifier from air source before servicing.. Remplace the cartridge : a) Separate the purifier head from the tank by removing the fasteners. b) After removing the cartridge, clean inside of the tank to remove any remaining contaminants. c) Insert a new CANABLAST filter cartridge. Tighten the fasteners across from each other and not in a circular sequence. this will help prevent warping of the filter head.. Record the date the filter was replaced on the label attached to the airline filter tank. You can developa filter replacement schedule by monitoring the frequency with which the cartridge needs to be changed.. If conditions are not improved, do not use the filter until appropriate corrective measures have been taken. 01-0-11 APC & Radex - Instruction Manual & Parts
