The Shockers and Panthers will tip at 3 p.m. The 2017 NCAA Division I national championship trophy will be on display Sunday in the McLeod Center. Fans will have the opportunity to pose with the trophy and have pictures taken with it on the McLeod Center concourse. Since the 2003-04 season, UNI (7) and Wichita State (6) have made the most appearances in the NCAA Tournament for the MVC. Senior Jeremy Morgan, the preseason MVC player of the year, is the only player in the NCAA to average 10.0 points (16.7), 3.0 rebounds (6.9), 2.0 assists (3.2), 2.0 steals (2.4) and 1.0 blocks (1.6). No NCAA player in the past 10 seasons has done the following for a season: 15.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.0 apg, 2.0 spg, 1.5 blocks, 2.0 3FGM/g, and only one has done that stat line in the past 20 seasons (Shane Battier of Duke in 1999-00). UNI is 5-1 when scoring 70 or more points this season. UNI s only loss when scoring 70 or more came in an 81-73 loss at Wyoming. The Panthers are 0-8 when scoring less than 70 points. PANTHERS TO HOST SHOCKERS SUNDAY IN MCLEOD UNI (5-9 overall, 0-3 MVC) returns to the McLeod Center Sunday for a matchup against league-leading Wichita State (13-3 overall, 3-0 MVC). The Shockers and Panthers will tip at 3 p.m. 2017 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY ON DISPLAY SUNDAY The 2017 NCAA Division I national championship trophy will be on display Sunday in the McLeod Center. Fans will have the opportunity to pose with the trophy and have pictures taken with it on the McLeod Center concourse. BROADCAST INFORMATION Sunday s game will be available for viewing on ESPNU. Mitch Holthus (play-by-play) and Mark Adams (analyst) will call the action courtside in the McLeod Center. WICHITA STATE SHOCKERS Wichita State was tabbed to win the Missouri Valley Conference s preseason poll for the fourth consecutive season. The Shockers have won three straight MVC regular season titles. Head coach Gregg Marshall is in his 10th season at the helm of the WSU program. He has guided the Shockers to 25 or more wins in seven consecutive seasons. ALL-TIME SERIES UNI owns a 28-26 lead in the alltime series vs. Wichita State. UNI scored two victories over the Shockers last season. The first win came in Wichita where the Panthers snapped WSU s 43-game home winning streak. The second triumph came when UNI posted a 57-52 overtime win in the MVC Tournament semifinals in St. Louis. UNI head coach Ben Jacobson is 11-11 against Wichita State since taking over the program in 2006-07. Jacobson has posted a mark of 5-5 against the Shockers in the McLeod Center. TWO WINS LAST YEAR VS. WSU UNI recorded two victories over 3 UNI MEN S BASKETBALL the Wichita State Shockers in the 2015-16 season becoming the first MVC team to defeat them twice in the same year since Creighton performed the feat in the 2012-13 season. Creighton won the MVC Tournament in 2013 by defeating the Shockers in the title game. The last two times UNI has defeated Wichita State twice in the same season it has resulted in the Panthers winning the MVC Tournament. UNI turned the trick in 2009-10 and 2015-16. MVC S DANCING PARTNERS Since the 2003-04 season, UNI and Wichita State have made the most appearances in the NCAA Tournament for the Missouri Valley Conference. The Panthers have made seven NCAA Tournament apperances since the 2003-04 season, while the Shockers have appeared in six NCAA tournaments in the same time frame. UNI has not lost six games in a row since the 2000-01 season when the Panthers had a 10-game losing streak for then head coach Sam Weaver. 0-3 START TO MVC PLAY FOR UNI The last time UNI started MVC play at 0-3 came in the 2000-01 season for head coach Sam Weaver. It is the first 0-3 start to league play under head coach Ben Jacobson. McCloud scored 13 points at Evansville (1/1) and followed that up with a 16-point night at Loyola (1/4). McCloud started the first 12 games of the season and has come off the bench to record his first two double-digit scoring games of his collegiate career. HALDEMAN PROVIDES O Redshirt freshman guard Spencer Haldeman ranks second on the squad in scoring (8.7) and in 3-pointers made (29). Haldeman has recorded five double-digit scoring games, including a season-high 18 points at Wyoming (12/3). TEDDY HITS THE BOARDS Junior center Ted Friedman leads the Panthers with 17 offensive rebounds. COACH JAKE RANKS T-6TH IN ALL-TIME MVC VICTORIES UNI head coach Ben Jacobson has tallied 225 career wins to rank T-No. 6 in MVC history. MORGAN NAMED MVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK Senior guard Jeremy Morgan averaged a double-double and was named to the Tire Pros Invitational All-Tournament team, which helped him earn his first Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week honor (11/21). Morgan scored 57 points (19.0 ppg), grabbed 30 rebounds (10.0 rpg), handed out 12 assists (4.0 apg), notched 12 steals (4.0 spg) and blocked eight shots (2.67 bpg), while shooting 10-of-24 from threepoint range. Morgan posted a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds in an 82-63 win over Arizona State. Morgan was 4-of-6 from 3-point range and handed out four assists vs. the Sun Devils. UNI OPENS UP WITH 71-48 EXHIBI- TION WIN OVER BEMIDJI STATE UNI scored a 71-48 exhibition victory over Truman State in the McLeod Center on Oct. 28. The Panthers were paced four four double-digit scorers in Jeremy Morgan, Juwan McCloud, Spencer Haldeman and Wyatt Lohaus. Each tallied 10 points in the victory. UNI MBB IN APR TOP-10 PERCENT The UNI men s basketball, men s golf, women s golf, women s cross country and women s volleyball teams have been recognized by the NCAA for their latest multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. These teams posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. The UNI men s basketball team has been recognized with a perfect APR score (1,000) in each of the last four seasons - the only MVC school to do that in each of the past three years. UNI SIGNS PHYFE TO NLI UNI head men s basketball coach Ben Jacobson announced the signing of Austin Phyfe (Waverly, Iowa/ Waverly-Shell Rock HS) to a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the Panthers beginning in 2017-18. Phyfe (6 9, 235 lbs., Forward) is the No. 2 recruit in the state of Iowa, according to IowaPreps.com. He earned second-team all-state honors from the Iowa Newspaper Association as a junior for head coach Nate Stegge. Phyfe notched third-team all-state accolades as a sophomore. Phyfe is a three-time all-northeast Iowa Conference pick, including a pair of first-team honors the past two seasons. Phyfe averaged 14.5 points, grabbed 8.4 rebounds and shot 64 percent from the field in leading Waverly-Shell Rock to an 18-6 record in 2015-16. Phyfe scored 13.7 points and grabbed 7.9 rebounds as a sophomore in helping the GoHawks to a 22-3 record and a berth into the state tournament. As a freshman, he helped the GoHawks the state tournament and into the semifinals. Phyfe played AAU for the Iowa Barnstormers. He is the son of Steve and Lisa Phyfe. His father, Steve, played basketball for the Panthers from 1987-1990. His sister, Aftin, is a member of the UNI swimming and diving team. UNI TO PLAY IN 2017 BATTLE 4 ATLANTIS Celebrating its seventh year of elite collegiate tournament play, the 2017 Battle 4 Atlantis will include Villanova, Arizona, Purdue, North Carolina State, Tennessee, Southern Methodist, Western Kentucky and UNI. The 2017 early season tournament field boasts a combined 16 Final Four appearances and five

National Championships between the field. The annual Battle 4 Atlantis once again falls during the Thanksgiving holiday, scheduled to take place November 22-24, 2017. The 12-game, three-day tournament is regarded as one of the most challenging early-season tournaments. It will mark UNI s second appearance in the Battle 4 Atlantis.
