This is Aggie Women s Golf 2007-08 Year in Review The New Mexico State women s golf team was young but talented during 2007-08. The Aggies showed their potential coming in second place in the 2008 Western Athletic Conference Championships. The team finished the tournament firing a 48-over par 912 as a team over the three days, which was seven strokes back of Fresno State who overcame a seven-stroke deficit entering the final round to win the championships. NMSU 298 shot on Wednesday was its best round of the tournament. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Western Athletic Conference Championships Chanachai finished the championship with a 6-over par 222, two strokes back of Fresno State senior Laura Luethke shot a 1-over par 73 in the final round to win the individual medalist honors. Chanachai had her best round of the tournament in the final day, as she shot a 1- over par 73 Wednesday to move up one spot and finish alone in third place with a 7-over par 223 in the tournament. After the completion of the tournament, the WAC handed out the 2007-08 awards. Chanachai was selected to the First Team All-WAC to go along with her freshman of the year accolade. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Booth RE-Joins Aggies The 2007-08 season got off the a good start when head coach Paul Brilliant announced Tuesday, July 24 that NMSU hired former head coach and one of only three coaches to be named LPGA Coach of the Year twice, Jackie Booth as an assistant coach for the women s golf program. Booth, who was previously the University of New Mexico s women s golf head coach, bring plenty of experience as she led the Lobos to four consecutive Mountain West Conference women s golf championships from 2001-2003. She was also named MWC Coach of the Year for three consecutive years, from 2001-03. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- La Quinta Mountain Shootout The New Mexico State women s golf team placed second while four players placed in the top-10 at the La Quinta Mountain Shootout in Flagstaff, Ariz. on Tuesday, September 18. Playing in the first tournament of the season, NMSU shot 106 pars as a team, to finish with a 56-over-par 632 and finish in second place; just one stroke behind host team Northern Arizona. Freshman Suterra Chanachai played great firing three birdies for the Aggies and placed second on the individual leader board. She fired a 12-over-par 156, while Northern Arizona s Sophia Choi finished five strokes ahead of her with a 7- over-par 151. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jeannine McHandey/Audrey Moorehead Invitational The New Mexico State women s golf team moved up two spots on the leader board to finish ninth at the Jeannine McHandey/Audrey Moorehead Invitational with freshman Buz Bowerman-Ritchie leading the way in Lubbock, Texas, Tuesday, Oct. 9. Bowerman-Ritchie carded a 9-over-par 228, which included a 2-under-par 71 in the final round. She tied for ninth in the tournament also carding rounds of 83 and 74. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Price s Give Em Five Invitational The Aggies finished in a tie for 11th on the final day of the Price s Give Em Five Invitational at the NMSU Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M., Wednesday, Oct. 17. The Aggies shot rounds of 310-312-309 for a 70-over-par 934 to tie with South Alabama. Freshman Suteera Chanachai led the way for the Aggie as she tied for eighth with two other players. Chanachai brought in a 7-over-par 223 to come up with her second top-10 finish of the season. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kent Youel Invitational Freshmen Suteera Chanachai finished in sixth place at the Kent Youel Invitational in Honolulu, Hawai i, Wednesday, Oct. 31. Chanachai shot rounds of 74-72-72 for a 4-over-par 220 to place sixth. This was the third time in the fall season Chanachai finished in the top-10. The Aggies finished tied for 12th with Colorado out of 19 teams. NMSU fired 940 in three rounds of play to beat six other teams. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Qdoba Invitational NSMU was led by two freshmen this week, as the Aggies finished ninth with a three-day team total of 937 at the Qdoba Invitational in Miami Lakes, Fla., Tuesday, Feb. 19. Freshmen Suteera Chanachai and Mint Swaschuto both a 12-over-par 228 at finished in the top-20 as they tied for 18 th. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kitahara Golf Classic Brittany Collins had a strong second day as the New Mexico State women s golf team finished 14 th at the Kitahara Golf Classic in Fresno, Calif., Tuesday, Feb. 26. Collins ended with a 4-over-par 76 in the final day of play at the par-72, 6,004 yard Copper River Country Club. She made 12 pars and a birdie in round two and had a two-day total of 11-over-par 155 to tie for 41 st. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UNLV Spring Invitational NMSU s Suteera Chanachai played well on the final day of the UNLV Spring Invitational to help her team to a 15th place finish in Boulder City, Nev., March 12. Chanachai fired a 2-under-par 70 in the last round of play that included birdies on holes 2, 5 and 16 with only one bogey. She finished the tournament with a 3-over-par 219 (73-76-70) to place 24 th. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BYU-Dixie Classic NMSU jumped up one spot in the standings after the third and final round where the Aggies scored a 27-over par, 315, April 2 to finish in sixth place overall at the 22 nd annual BYU-Dixie Classic at the Entrada at Snow Canyon Course. Suteera Chanachai highlighted the tournament for the Aggies, as she finished in a tie for sixth place overall with her 8-over par, 224 in the three rounds. She was only nine shots back of Juli Erekson from BYU who took the individual crown with her 1- under par, 215. Chanachai carded a 4-over par, 76 in the final round Wednesday where she had four birdies. 2008-09 Outlook This is the fourth year for the New Mexico State women s golf team will compete in the Western Athletic Conference, placing second in the 2008 WAC Championships. The Aggies will look to sophomore Suteera (Pang) Chanachai to lead them to a conference title. She was a first-team all-wac selection and the WAC Freshman of the year for her play during the 2007-08 season. NMSU will compete in four tournaments during the 2009 spring season to prepare for the 2009 WAC Championships, which will take place in Reno, Nev. April 20-22. Along with Apinporn (Mint) Swaschuto, Brittany Collins, Georgina Dunn and Maggie Murphy returning from last year s team, NMSU added in newcomers Ashley Elias and Gina Bortoletto to the roster.

Meet the Aggies BRITTANY COLLINS SENIOR Bluffton, S.C. Heritage Academy MAGGIE MURPHY JUNIOR Sioux Falls, S.D. O Gorman HS Junior: Collins played in all nine tournaments for the women s golf team in 2007-08 and averaged 78.67 strokes per round. Her best finish came at the Western Athletic Conference Championships (4/21-23) when she finished third with a 7-over-par 223. Collins low round also came in the WAC Championships when she carded a 1-overpar 73 in round three to help lead NMSU to a second place finish. At the NAU/La Quinta Mountain Inn Shootout (9/16-18), she tied for seventh after she fired a 15-over-par 159. At the Qdoba Invitational (2/17-19) in Miami, Fla. Collins tied for 31st with a 16-over-par 232. Sophomore: Collins competed in four tournaments for the New Mexico State women s golf team in 2006-07 and averaged 82.09 strokes per round. In 11 rounds of play, her low round was a 79 that came at the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational in Fresno, Calif. (2/26-27) She also competed in the Western Athletic Conference Championships where she placed 34th. High School: Collins attended Heritage Academy in Hilton Head Island, S.C. from 2000-04. She lettered in golf twice there. Personal: Brittany Renee Collins is the daughter of Ron and Colette Collins. She was born in Columbus, Ohio. Collins is majoring in hotel, restaurant, and tourism management. Sophomore: Murphy returns to the NMSU women s golf team for the 2008-09 season looking to lead the Aggies to a WAC Championship. She played in eight of the nine tournaments last season, while averaging 80.82 strokes per round in 22 rounds of play. Her low round of 70 was recorded in the third round of the BYU/Dixie Classic (4/1-2). Her best finish came in the first tournament of the season, the NAU/La Quinta Mountain Inn Shootout (9/17-18), when she tied for seventh with a 15-over-par 159 to help the Aggies to a second-place finish. Murphy was also named a 2007-08 National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar. Even with the time she puts into golf, she has been able to maintain a 3.73 GPA. Red-Shirt Freshman: Murphy participated in all nine tournaments in 2006-07. She averaged 79.23 strokes per round in her 26 rounds of play, and her low round was a 74, which came at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Norman, Okla. (4/8-9) Murphy s best finish came at the WAC Championships (4/23-25) where she tied for 26 th firing rounds of 76-79-82 for a 21-over-par 237. At the Price s Give Em Five Intercollegiate (10/17-18), she helped her team to a first-place finish while she carded a 19-over-par 235. Freshman: Murphy did not compete in 2005-06 due to a red shirt season. High School: Murphy played her prep golf at O Gorman High School in Sioux Falls, S.D. and led the Knights to a fourth-place finish at the state tournament in 2004. She was named all-state and All-Greater Dakota Conference as a sophomore, junior and senior. She played in the No. 1 varsity slot all four years of high school and was named all-city each of those seasons. She led the Knights to the conference title as a junior and the city championship as a senior. Personal: Murphy was born in Sioux Falls, S.D., and is the daughter of Dan and Jean Murphy. She was member of her high school honor roll and is a Crimson Scholar majoring in community health.

Meet the Aggies BUZ BOWERMAN-RITCHIE SOPHOMORE Oshawa, Ontario Bowmanville HS SUTEERA (PANG) CHANACHAI SOPHOMORE Bangkok, Thailand Demonstration Ramhumghang Freshman: Bowerman- Ritchie played in eight tournaments during the 2007-08 season and her best finish was a tie for fourth in the NAU/La Quinta Mountain Inn Shootout (9/16-18). In the 22 rounds she played, Bowerman-Ritchie averaged 79.36 strokes per round. Her lowest round was a 71 in round three of the Jeannine McHaney/Audrey Morehead Invitational (10/8-9). Bowerman-Ritchie earned her second consecutive top 10 finish of the year after she tied for ninth and carded a 9-over-par 228. High School: Bowerman-Ritchie ranked No. 1 in the Canadian Junior Golf Association in national merit points as she earned three wins and eight top-10 finishes. Bowerman-Ritchie played in the 2006 Callaway Junior World Championships at Torrey Pines and in the Coaches Tournament and Academy in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. where she was the runner-up. Bowerman-Ritchie was a member of Team Canada in 2006 for the CJGA Euro Cup where she helped the team win all six of its matches. On the national level in Canada, Bowerman-Ritchie placed fourth at the Nike Golf Junior Championship and second at the CJGA Mizuno Eastern Canadian Championship. She also had a sixth-place finish at the Mizuno CJGA National Golf Championship at National Pines. In the province of Ontario, Bowerman-Ritchie s home province, she had six firstplace finishes, including a first-place medal at the CJGA Euro Cup Qualifier, the CJGA Junior Worlds Qualifier and the CJGA Team East Qualifier. In 2005, Bowerman-Ritchie placed second at the CJGA Worlds Qualifier, tied for second at the Ontario Junior Masters College Preview, first at the CJGA Canada Cup Qualifier and first at the CJGA Nike Junior Series, along with many other five other top-10 finishes. Personal: Lauren Buz Bowerman-Ritchie is the daughter of Ian and Robin Bowerman- Ritchie and was born in Oshawa, Ontario. She is undecided in a major. Freshman: Chanachai could arguably be the best freshman to play for NMSU. In her debut season, Chanachai earned WAC Freshman of the Year and first team All-WAC honors. As the Aggies top player in 2007-08, Chanachai averaged 75.44 strokes per round with her lowest round coming in the third round of the UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational (3/10-12), which was a 2-under-par 70. Chanachai had five top-10 finishes in nine tournaments played. She got off the a great start with a second place finish at the NAU/La Quinta Mountain Inn Shootout (9/16-18) where she brought in a 12-over-par 156. Chanachai earned her second top-10 finish when she tied for eighth at the Price s Give Em Five Intercollegiate (10/15-17) with a 7-over-par 223. She then placed sixth at the Kent Youel Invitational (10/30-31) in Hawai i scoring a 4-over-par 220, which included an even par in round two. Chanachai tied for sixth at the BYU/Dixie Classic (4/1-2) with an 8- over-par 224, before rounding out the season with a second place finish at the WAC Women s Golf Championship (4/21-23). High School: Chanachai attended Demonstration Ramhumghang University in Bangkok, Thailand, however played golf as an amateur. In 2005, she won two tournaments and finished in the top five another time. Chanachai led her Thai team to wins at the 30 th Demonstration Sport at Khom Pang Sand and the 23 rd Sea Games in the Philippines in 2004 while also winning the individual medal at both tournaments. She also competed at both the 2005 Philippines Ladies Open, where she finished fifth, and at the 2005 Junior World Championships in San Diego, Calif. with an eighth-place showing. In 2004, Chanachai won the individual title at the Mercedes Junior Championship and finished 12th at the 2004 Junior World Championships. In 2003, she won the Pharmaton Malaysia Ladies Open and was a member of the Thai National Team that won the 2002 and 2003 Queen Sirikit Club in Malaysia and South Korea. A year earlier, Chanachai finished 13 th at the Thailand Ladies Amateur Open and fifth at the 26 th Kosaido Thailand Open in Bangkok. Personal: Suteera Chanachai is the daughter of Chartchay and Paphavee Chanachai. She is undecided in a major.

Meet the Aggies GEORGINA DUNN SOPHOMORE Northampton, England The King s School Peterborough APINPORN (MINT) SWASCHUTO SOPHOMORE Bangkok, Thailand St. Hilda s HS Red-Shirt Freshman: Dunn played in four tournaments for the Aggies in 2008 and averaged 81.33 strokes per round. Her low round was a 75 in round three of the Price s Give Em Five Intercollegiate (10/15-17) in Las Cruces, N.M. Dunn played 12 rounds of golf, while her best finish was a tie for 31 st at the Price s Give Em Five Intercollegiate. Freshman: Dunn did not compete in any tournaments in 2006-07. High School: Dunn attended the King s School in Peterborough, England. Personal: Georgina Elizabeth Dunn was born in Northhampton, England and is the daughter of Edward and Carol Dunn. She is undecided in a major. Red-Shirt Freshman: Swaschuto played in all nine tournaments for the Aggies in 2007-08. She averaged 80.36 strokes per round. She had one top-20 finish, which was a tie for 18th at the Qdoba Invitational (2/16-18) in Miami, Fla. There Swaschuto fired rounds of 80-72-76 for a 12-over-par 228, with the second round 72, which was her only even/under par round of the season. In the Western Athletic Conference Championships (4/21-23), she helped the team to a second place finish with a 24-over-par 240. Swaschuto tied for 28th in the conference tournament. Freshman: Swaschuto did not compete in 2006-07. High School: Although Swaschuto is originally from Thailand, she went to high school at St. Hilda s High School in Gold Coast, Australia where she was captain of the golf team from 2003-05. During the 2003 season, her team took first in the regional tournament and in the state tournament from 2004-05. Swaschuto broke a course record in 2005 at the Bribie Island Junior Classic when she shot a 4-under-par. She was also part of the 2005 Queensland State team that competed in the National Championship and placed first. That same year her team participated in the Queensland Secondary School Golf State Championship and took first there. At the QDL Open Junior Championship she was the runner-up and she placed 10th at the Thailand Ladies Amateur Open. In 2004, her team won the Intercollegiate Team Golf Championship, while she was the winner of the Titleist Winter Classic and the runner-up at the Junior State Championship. Swaschuto was named G.N.G.F. Junior Golfer of the Year in 2003, after she did well in events like the Women s Golf Gold Coast. She won the Junior Summer Championship in 2002, the Junior Girls Ranking Final in 2001 and the Renay Appleby Day in 2000. Personal: Apinporn Swaschuto is the daughter of Apinsak and Sathan Swaschuto. She was born in Bangkok, Thailand, and is majoring in sports marketing & management. Her father, Apinsak, was a former professional tennis player.

Meet the Aggies GINA BORTOLETTO FRESHMAN The Woolands, Texas The Woodlands HS ASHLEY ELIAS FRESHMAN El Paso, Texas Coronado HS High School: Gina Bortoletto is one of two freshmen playing for the Aggies during the 2008-09 season. Bortoletto was part of a team that won the district and regional championships from 2005-07 at The Woodlands High School. She was also the individual district runner-up in 2007 and won the district medal in 2006. Bortoletto earned all-metro honors in Houston, Texas for the 2007-08 season and was also the regional runner-up that year. Personal: Gina Serena Bortoletto is the daughter of John and Peggy Bortoletto and is majoring in biology. High School: Elias was one of two great recruits added to the roster for the 2008-09 season. She comes to NMSU after four alldistrict and four all-city selections, district player of the year as a junior and winning the 1-5A District Title three times while playing at Coronado High School in El Paso. Elias also earned all-region honors her junior and senior years. Personal: Ashley Nicole Elias is the daughter of Charlie and Kim Elias. She is majoring in education and community development.

Coaching Staff PAUL BRILLIANT HEAD COACH 15 TH SEASON ALMA MATER - NEW MEXICO STATE Brilliant was inducted into the NMSU Sports Hall of Fame in 1999 and 2005. He was also a PGA Lifetime Achievment Award recipient in 2003. Paul Brilliant returns for his 15 th year of coaching the New Mexico State University women s golf team after placing second in the 2008 Western Athletic Conference Championships last season. Brilliant returns all five players from that team, including second and third place finishers Suteera (Pang) Chanachai and Brittany Collins. Brilliant helped improve the skills of Chanachai, who was named 2008 WAC Freshman of the Year and earned first team All-WAC honors. The names were new to Aggie fans last season, but after a year of experience, Chanachai and Collins along with Buz Bowerman-Ritchie and Apinporn (Mint) Swaschuto should push for their first WAC title. Brilliant also brought in a pair of newcomers to the team in freshmen Ashley Elias and Gina Bortoletto. Under Brilliant, Chanachai was the team leader during the 2007 fall season, averaging 75 strokes per round. Brilliant guided Chanachai to a fourth place finish at the 2007 Price s Give Em Five Invitational (10/15-17). Freshman Ashley Elias has already made some strides under Brilliant as she had the second lowest average at 78.25 strokes per round in 12 rounds of play in the fall. Brilliant returned as the head coach of the women s golf team July 14, 2006 in effort to bolster the women s golf program. Brilliant served as New Mexico State s first women s golf coach from 1982-1992 and replaces Joann Cox, who retired, on June 30, 2006. Despite a 14-year hiatus from the collegiate game, Brilliant continues to coach and mentor young golfers. During Brilliant s second season, he looked to build his team around young talented players after losing two-time All-WAC selection and 2004 Sun Belt Champion Lehua Wise (Lihue, Kauai, Hawai i) and 2007 second team All-WAC selection and 2004 All-Sun Belt selection Inah Park (Richamond, B.C.). Wise and Park were the top-two finishers for the Aggies in every tournament in the 2006-07 season, while Wise won the Price s Give Em Five Intercollegiate in Las Cruces. Brilliant s team came together win the Price s Give Em Five Intercollegiate at the NMSU Golf Course. The Aggies started the final day of play in second place, just two strokes behind Missouri. The Aggies carded a 26-over-par 890 and finished six strokes ahead of Baylor, which finished in second. Brilliant coached former Aggie and current professional golfers Alena Sharp, Kelly Cavanaugh and Rachel Bailey when they joined the professional ranks. In Sharp s first season as an exempt player on the LPGA Tour, she competed in 13 tournaments and earned $52,452 in career winnings. At the time, she ranked eighth on tour in driving distance (269.3) and was tied for 20 th in green in regulation (1.78). Bailey, who graduated from New Mexico State in 2003 with a degree in marketing, has been a member of the Duramed FURTURES TOUR for four seasons. She recorded her best career finish with a tie for third at the 2006 Louisiana FUTURES Classic in Lafayette, La. Bailey was one of nine players who competed on the Golf Channel s reality show Big Break VI. Cavanaugh, who joined the professional ranks in 2003, has been a member of the Duramed FUTURES TOUR for two seasons. This year Cavanaugh has played in 10 events while making five cuts. A 1999 and 2005 inductee of the New Mexico State Sports Hall of Fame, Brilliant was also inducted into the National Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2000. Two years later, Brilliant was elected a lifetime member of the National Golf Coaches Association and in 2003 he was the recipient of the PGA Lifetime Achievement Award (Sun Country Section). During his decade as head coach, Brilliant was responsible for building the New Mexico State women s golf team into one of the premiere collegiate programs in the country. A four-time High Country Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, Brilliant led the Roadrunners to a trio of High Country Athletic Conference titles and three trips to the NCAA Championships (1988, 1989, 1991). Under Brilliant s guidance, the Roadrunners garnered three All-America honors and 19 all-conference accolades. After finishing third or better in the first three High Country Athletic Conference Championships, Brilliant and the Roadrunners broke through with the team s first-ever win at the 1986 High Country Athletic Conference Championships in Provo, Utah. The conference title was also the first for a NMSU s women s sports programs. The Roadrunners second win came the next year as NMSU took home the title at the Lady Ram Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo. Brilliant continued to elevate the Roadrunners level of play as NMSU posted five top-three finishes during the 1987-88 season, including a win at the Susie M. Berning Invitational in Norman, Okla. NMSU also made history that season as the team hosted and advanced to its first NCAA Championships in school history. A year later, Brilliant and the Roadrunners recorded another first in program history as NMSU posted two wins in a season. After winning the Diet Coke-Roadrunner Invitational to begin the season, NMSU took home its second High Country Athletic Conference title before advancing to the 1989 NCAA Championships in Palo Alto, Calif. The following fall, Brilliant s Roadrunners became the only NMSU sports program in school history to be ranked No. 1 in the nation. In 1990-91, the Roadrunners moved into the Big West Conference and quickly made a name for themselves as NMSU won back-to-back tournaments to open the season and had three players named first team All-Big West. The Roadrunners finished second at their first Big West Conference Championships and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the third time to four years. In his last season at NMSU during his first stint, Brilliant led the Roadrunners to four top-5 finishes and four all-conference selections, including Tina Drabble, who was a first team pick for the second straight year. Brilliant also has connections with 2000 NMSU graduate and former player, Gwladys Nocera who was on top of the 2006 money list of the Ladies European Tour. Brilliant has spent the last two years working as the short game coach for former Aggie and 2002 PGA Champion Rich Beem.

Coaching Staff JACKIE BOOTH ASSISTANT COACH 17 TH SEASON ALMA MATER - BYU Booth is now in her second season of her second stint with NMSU. She was previously the University of New Mexico s women s golf head coach and brings plenty of experience as she led the Lobos to four consecutive Mountain West Conference women s golf championships from 2000-03. She was also named MWC Coach of the Year for three consecutive years, from 2001-03. Booth assists head coach Paul Brilliant with recruiting and everyday team operations such a practice and travel. Booth is the only other coach to be named LPGA Coach of the Year twice, earning the award in 1998 and 2002, besides Jackie Steinmann from UCLA and Linda Vollstedt of Arizona State University. Booth was also inducted into the New Mexico State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005, into the Albuquerque Sports Hall of Fame in 2005 and the Albuquerque Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. She was formerly the head coach for the NMSU women s golf team from 1992-97 and led her team to the NCAA tournament in 1996 and 1997. She was also named Big West Coach of the Year in 1995, 1996 and 1997. Before she became the head coach for NMSU, Booth was the assistant coach from 1982-92 and worked side-byside with Brilliant. During that time she helped Brilliant coach 10 players to All-High Country honors and 15 players to the Academic All-High Country team. Overall, Booth coached three All-Americans, over 20 all-conference selections and 36 academic all-conference selections at NMSU. Under Booth, players have earned National Golf Coaches Association Scholar Athlete honors 24 times and MWC Scholar-Athlete honors 34 times. She also coached the 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2007 MWC Freshman of the Year. In her 15 years as a head coach, student-athletes have earned All-American honors eight times, all-conference honors 47 times and all-scholar honors 60 times. Booth played collegiate golf for Brigham Young University, where she received a bachelor of arts in 1978. She grew up in Las Cruces and attended Las Cruces High School, where she was the first girl to letter in a boy s sport as she lettered on the high school boy s golf team. Booth s Coaching Highlights Led New Mexico to four consecutive Mountain West Conference Women s Golf Championships 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003. Named Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year three consecutive years 2001, 2002, 2003. 26 players have earned All-MWC honors. Coached the 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2006 MWC Freshman of the Year. Players have earned NGCA Scholar Athlete honors 22 times and MWC Scholar-Athlete honors 31 times. Coached three NCAA All-Americans at UNM and Golfweek All-American Mikaela Backstedt. Coached the No. 1 sophomore in the Nation in 2003 (K. Downs). Served as Vice President of the National Golf Coaches Association for five years (1998-02). 1998 and 2002 National Coach of the Year. Four-time LPGA Central Section Coach of the Year - 1996, 1998, 2001, 2003. Inducted into the New Mexico State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005. NMSU Golf Course & Facilities University Golf Course - The New Mexico State University Golf Course is the home to the Aggie men s and women s golf programs. The course, which features a challenging 18-hole layout, has hosted many high-level collegiate tournaments over the years, including the 1968 NCAA Men s Championships, the 1998 NCAA Women s Championships, two NCAA West Regionals and several conference tournaments. In the spring of 2007, the course hosted its first WAC women s Golf Championships. In the fall of 2004, the course received a brand new state-of-the-art clubhouse and updated course design. NMSU Golf Course & Facilities The New Mexico State men s and women s golf teams are welcomed a new practice facility to the NMSU Golf Course in 2007. The facility was a collaboration of an idea last winter between men s golf head coach Scott Lieberwirth, women s golf head coach Paul Brilliant and Director of Golf Dan Koesters. The short area is where you score from, Brilliant said. The game is too punitive; if you hit a drive three hundred yards it counts as one, and if you miss a one foot putt it counts as one too. With the NMSU golf course being one of two public golf courses, the practice facility gives the athletes the chance to have a more personal area to improve their skills. Both men s and women s golf teams will be able to use the facility without being interrupted by the public. Fundraising by the teams, along with private donations and Price s Creamery created the opportunity to install a practice facility possible. The facility is located on the north side of the first tee box, it is equipped with putting greens, chipping areas and bunkers. The facility has been used for one season so it is still new, and after two growing seasons, the facility has really shaped up and has been put to great use. SONOMA RANCH GOLF COURSE Sonoma Ranch is a great place to golf and capture a view of the Organ Mountains, Picacho Peak and the Mesilla Valley. Measuring 7,001 yards and offering five sets of tees, Sonoma Ranch was designed to be fun and challenging for amateurs, yet a formidable test for professionals. PICACHO HILLS COUNTRY CLUB The jewel of Picacho Hills Country Club is its 6,950-yard, par-72 championship golf course. Ranked the eighth best course in New Mexico by Golf Digest, this course is the premier golf course in Southern New Mexico. Picacho Hills Country Club is a two-time host of the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA). The only private golf course in Las Cruces offers paved cart paths, a driving range and putting greens. This course provides bent-grass greens and tees, bluegrass fairways, and a desert style course. LAS CRUCES COUNTRY CLUB Las Cruces Country Club is located in the heart of the city. The golf course 6,300 yard course with 18 holes. It offers the convenience of a pro shop, paved cart paths, driving range and putting greens.
