Community Newsletter Week of June 11-15, 2018 A publication of the City of Dodge City Public Information Office 1. The City of Dodge City held an all employee food drive competition during the months of April and May as a way to promote City pride. Each department competed against each other to see who could bring in the largest number of pantry items per employee in the department. Public Works won the competition with 15 items per employee. Overall over 1,200 food pantry items were collected. Public Information Specialist, Abbey Martin, along with help from Fee Insurance Agent, Mario Rayo, distributed the items on Friday, June 15, to Manna House, Salvation Army, Friendship Feast and The Kansas Soldiers Home in Fort Dodge. 2. The Long Branch Lagoon is the place to be this summer with this hot weather. The park has implemented a bag search policy so please keep that in mind as you are planning your next visit. In addition, no glass is allowed on the property so if you going to pay to bring in a cooler be sure to pack it with plastic. For more information visit www.lblagoon.com. 3. The races are going on tonight and tomorrow night at Dodge City Raceway Park! Be sure to come on out for the opening leg of the Second Annual Lubbock Wrecker Service DCRP vs. URSS 305 Sprint Car Nationals with the IMCA Stock Cars in action as well. Racing action goes green at 8:00 p.m. For more information visit www.dodgecityraceway.com. 4. The Streets Department completed the south bound traffic signal at 6th and Ross for the 6th Ave extension. Crews also repaired the pedestrian crossing signals on Ave G for Miller Elementary School. Street crews have also continued on repairing brick utility cuts throughout town. Crews also replaced 3 concrete panels at 3rd and Ash as well as replacing several concrete parking blocks in the parking lot south of Spruce and 3rd. Sign crews installed No Overnight Parking signs at the CVB as well as No Truck Parking at the Long Branch Lagoon. 5. Sanitation crews delivered polykarts for the area of Ave A to Ave D between Comanche and Wyatt Earp. Polykarts are to be set out at the curb at 7 A.M. Monday mornings. The first pickup day will be June 18th and alley bins will be removed from this area on the 25th of June. 6. Mariah Hills Golf Course had 70 kids enrolled in this year s Junior Golf Program. There were two age groups ranging from 5 8 years old and 9 and up.

7. The Contractor has finished placing the driving surface on the University Dr. portion of the project. Time is still required for cure, sealing, pavement markings and such before it can be open to traffic. Starting Monday, June 18th, the outside south bound lane will be closed to traffic at the intersection so the contractor can complete some storm drainage work and widen the return. 8. Water crews repaired 3 main breaks this week in various areas throughout town. The first happened Tuesday morning at 807 Hillcrest, the next break happened Thursday morning at 206 Trail, and the last break was Friday morning located at 801 Ave H. All breaks were repaired on the day they occurred with limited service interruption. 9. There has been a main break on Comanche between 5th and 6th Avenues. Service may be interrupted for a short period while repairs are being made. The entrance to Hoover Way from Comanche will be closed to traffic through the weekend. 10. Dodge City Regional Airport held its annual safety table top exercise on Friday. The exercise is designed to challenge and test emergency personnel as well as airport staff on safety procedures. The event takes place every June to stay in compliance with FAA safety standards. Emergency personnel from the City, County and State attended the event. 11. There were about 20 tourism professionals in the community this week as the Convention and Visitors Bureau hosted the Travel Industry of Kansas Board Meetings this week. The Executive Committee Meeting took place on Wednesday, with an evening reception at the Boot Hill Distillery, and Board of Directors Meeting was held on Thursday.
