JUDGES COMMITTEE GUIDELINES MARCH 18, 2018 Program Requirements for Singles and Pairs Must meet at least one of the following test or competition qualifications: Standard Requirements Accelerated Requirements Advanced Requirements NONE Tests: Novice free skate or pairs test; adult gold free skate or pairs test. Tests: Junior or above free skate or pairs test. Competition: Championship masters singles or championship pairs competitors at the U.S. Adult Championships; or collegiate, junior or senior competitors at the U.S. Synchronized Championships

Nonqualifying Singles Judge Appointment Guidelines General Comments 1. A Nonqualifying Singles appointment is not a pre-requisite to obtaining a Regional Singles/Pairs Competition appointment. 2. Judges with a Nonqualifying Singles Competition appointment should be actively working toward obtaining a Bronze Singles Test appointment, if they have not obtained one already. 3. Judges with a Nonqualifying Singles Competition appointment are qualified to judge all levels of singles and showcase events at nonqualifying competitions as a one-judge minority of the panel. 4. The Nonqualifying Singles Competition appointment is valid for 24 months and is not renewable. Criteria to Obtain Nonqualifying Singles Competition Appointment Guidelines to Obtain Nonqualifying Singles Competition Appointment Requires favorable endorsement of RVC Guidelines may be modified by SVC or Chair. Must be an eligible, reinstated or readmitted person in good standing as defined in Rule ER 1.00, a current member of U.S. Figure Skating and 18 years of age or older. A person 17 years of age may be appointed as a Nonqualifying Singles Competition Judge provided said person has been actively trial judging for a minimum of six months. Candidates for Nonqualifying Singles Competition Judge must be recommended for the appointment by their home club and/or monitor. Nominations will be sent to the appropriate Regional Vice Chair (RVC) for Singles/Pairs on the Judges Committee. Regional Singles/Pairs Competition Judge Appointment Appointment Requirements Trial Judging Eligibility Judges School Element ID Judges Promotional Exam Official Competition Activity Must be a Silver Singles Test Judge or higher Judges can pursue Silver Singles Test and Regional Singles/Pairs Competition appointments at the same time IJS school two years prior to application submission 90% or better required to pass in each discipline Candidates must pass the Element ID (singles and pairs) to be considered for an appointment. If a candidate does not pass the Element ID, then the appointment will be returned to the monitor with a letter of explanation. None required Must demonstrate a commitment to being an active judge in both the testing and competition systems. Should judge nonqualifying competitions throughout the year and not limit this activity only to competitions that offer trial judging opportunities. All competition activity should be tracked and submitted with application for appointment. Should have judged juvenile, intermediate, novice, and junior events at several nonqualifying competitions. Trial Judge Competition Activity Advanced Accelerated Standard Singles Events to be Trialed** Pairs Events to be Trialed** Required Competitions to Trial One juvenile free skate event One complete singles event in each category intermediate, novice, junior and senior Five short programs total, with at least two pairs represented from each level (novice and junior). Senior pairs count for activity as well, but are not required to be included in the five short programs. Eight free skate programs total, with at least two pairs represented from each level (juvenile through junior). Senior pairs do count for activity as well, but are not required to be included in the eight free skate programs. Must trial judge at least one regional Two juvenile free skate events Two complete singles event in each category intermediate, novice, junior and senior Seven short programs total, with at least two pairs represented from each level (novice and junior). Senior pairs count for activity as well, but are not required to be included in the seven short programs. Ten free skate programs total, with at least two pairs represented from each level (juvenile through junior). Senior pairs do count for activity as well, but are not required to be included in the ten free skate programs. Must trial judge at least one regional Three juvenile free skate events Three complete singles events in each category intermediate, novice, junior and senior (minimum of three short program/three free skate in each event) Nine short programs total, with at least two pairs represented from each level (novice and junior). Senior pairs count for activity as well, but are not required to be included in the nine short programs. Twelve free skate programs total, with at least two pairs represented from each level (juvenile through junior). Senior pairs count for activity as well, but are not required to be included in the twelve free skate programs. Must trial judge at least two regional Trial Judge Opportunities Sectional. Only pair events will be made available to prospective regional competition (RC) candidate judges for official trial judge activity. RC prospective candidates may practice judge other events which will count toward CEUs, but these events will not offer formal event reviews by a designated JET. Prospective Regional Competition judges will have to apply to trial sectionals and be accepted based on prior judging and trial judging experience. Activity (including Pair activity) can be submitted from approved nonqualifying competitions with permission from RVC. ** If the JET determines only a portion of an event is to be trial judged due to scheduling conflicts, Element ID exercises, or any reason deemed appropriate, the event will be counted as a complete event.

Miscellaneous Trial papers must be dated within four years of application for Trial judge is responsible for maintaining record of events judged at nonqualifying competitions. Keep and submit protocols and assignment sheets as proof of competition judging activity. Summary sheets must be included for all qualifying and nonqualifying competitions trial judged. Requires favorable endorsement of judging peers and RVC Guidelines may be modified by SVC or chair.

National Singles/Pairs Competition Judge Appointment Appointment Requirements Must be a Gold Singles Test Judge and Sectional Singles/Pairs Competition Judge for a minimum of one year Judges School IJS school within two years prior to application submission Element ID 90% or better required to pass in each discipline Candidates must pass the Element ID (singles and pairs) to be considered for an appointment. If a candidate does not pass the Element ID, then the appointment will be returned to the monitor with a letter of explanation. Judge Promotional Exam 80% required to pass Official Competition Activity Must judge at least one regional AND one sectional, U.S. Collegiate Championships. Should judge nonqualifying competitions throughout the year and must demonstrate a commitment to being an active judge in both the testing and competition systems. Should have judged a minimum of two pair events (one senior and one junior with SP and FS). One must be at a sectional or equivalent approved by SVC w/ minimum of four teams and must be within past two years of application. Must have judged a minimum of six each of junior and senior (SP & FS) events at qualifying competitions. Must have judged a minimum of two final rounds of a novice, junior or senior event at a regional (or equivalent) within two years of application.
