Floor Hockey Unit/Lesson Plan Goal Have most (if not all) of the students know the basic rules and skills needed in Floor Hockey. Hockey Sticks one per student 1) Participate in the Freeze Tag 2) Learn Basic Safety Guidelines ) Learn the parts and the names of the parts of the sticks DATE: DAY 1 OF 15 SAFETY and Stick handling Freeze Tag Show the stick and give the name to each part of the stick 10 Explain the safety rules and what to do and what not to do with the stick Give each student a stick and show them how to hold it. Foam Dodge Balls, Hockey stick per player, one hockey puck per pair 1) Participate in the Dodge Ball during the 2) Learn forehand and backhand passes ) Demonstrate proper technique and form for Both forehand and backhand passing and receiving DATE: DAY 5 OF 15 Passing/Receiving a pass Introductory activity Dodge Ball Passing and Receiving a pass 5 Choose a Partner Show them forehand passes as well as how to receive passes on the forehand and have them practice that Separate them once they are getting the hang of it Next show them how to give a back hand pass and how to receive those passes as well Fitness Dodge Ball 10 10

Hockey stick per player, one hockey puck per pair 1) Participate in the Sharks and Minnows during the 2) Learn how to give a wrist pass ) Demonstrate proper technique and proper form for a wrist pass DATE: DAY 6 OF 15 Passing Introductory activity Sharks and Minnows Check Heart Rate (Have them find pulse, tell them when to start and after 6 seconds have them stop and add a Zero at the end of their final number) Stretching Passing 14 Show them how to give a wrist pass. This is going to be difficult so remind them that its ok if they do not get it quickly. Explain when wrist passes are supposed to be given and have them spread out Fitness Sharks and Minnows 8

Hockey stick per player, one hockey puck per pair, and a goal 1) Participate in the Freeze Tag during the 2) Learn correct passing technic when moving DATE: DAY OF 15 Passing and controlling a pass while moving Introductory activity Freeze Tag Stretching Passing and controlling the pass while moving Two lines, have one player from each line pass it back and forth and once they get to the goal they may shoot Remaining class 15 Fitness After that has been done you can try a -man weave if time still remains Hula Hoop Shooting

DATE: DAY 8 OF 15 Shooting Stick and puck per player, Music Player, Jump ropes (one per person) and a goal 1) Participate in the Jump rope during the 2) Practice shots on the wall ) Demonstrate proper form of shooting when shooting towards the goal Introductory activity Jump Rope to the rhythm of the music Stretching Shooting Remaining class Show correct form when shooting Bend Knees, point blade towards puck, slide forward Keep follow trough low as well as when you lift up your blade to swing Fitness Practice shooting against the wall Split people into different groups and have them do rapid fire towards an empty net 15 Tell them where you want them all to aim

Foam Dodge balls, Stick and Puck per player, and a Goal 1) Participate in the Dodge ball during the 2) Remember technique for the wrist pass ) Demonstrate proper form for a wrist shot DATE: DAY 9 OF 15 Shooting DodgeBall Shooting 15 Show the same technique used for a wrist pass and use it to take a wrist shot. Rapid Fire Fitness Dodgeball 10

Stick and Puck per player 1) Participate in freeze tag during the 2) Learn how to protect the puck and see your surroundings DATE: DAY 10 OF 15 Puck Control/Know surroundings Freeze Tag Fitness Puck Control/Know surroundings Always know where your puck is and always cover it. Move around the gym controlling the puck avoiding other class mates Last Man Standing One must hit opponents puck out of the area in which they are playing while guarding their own. Last one standing wins 1 Eliminated players dribble around the cones on the other side of the court until game resets

Stick per player, pucks, and a Goal 1) Participate in the Green light, Red light during the 2) Learn basic Offensive techniques ) Demonstrate understanding of being on offense DATE: DAY 11 OF 15 Offense Green light, Red Light Stretching Offense Always look for open players who have easier shots or can make an assist Always keep a defender or someone down covering for counter attack and always move looking for open spaces Put players in position and have them simulate a game situation and stop according to what you find wrong or right Fitness Tire Tug 10 15

Stick per player, goal, and pucks 1) Participate in the Tag during the 2) Learn basic Offensive techniques ) Demonstrate understanding of defending DATE: DAY 12 OF 15 Defensive Introductory activity Tag 10 Defense Remaining Class Explain that you must cover the pass as a defender and that the goalie has the shot covered so you don t have to worry about it. Set up 2 vs 1 lines 2 offense and 1 defender After your turn you switch to the line clockwise from where you were before. 5 Fitness Next set up vs 2 lines on offense and 1 on defense rotate after each turn Two vs. One lines & Three vs. One lines 1

Stick per player, pucks (according to players on each group), and 2 goals 1) Participate in the Warm-up exercises during the 2) Remember al of the different types of passes learned during the passing days ) Run trough passing stations and demonstrate proper technique and form DATE: DAY 1 OF 15 Passing Review Introductory activity Jumping Jacks, Grapevine, Power skips, Galloping Passing Review Split the class into groups and run 15 stations 5 min. per station 1) 2 line passing drill 2) man weave ) Wrist pass practice Fitness Tire Tug 10

Foam Dodge-balls, Stick and puck per player and a goal 1) Participate in the Simon Says during the 2) Remember al of the different types of Shooting learned during the shooting days ) Run trough shooting stations and demonstrate proper technique and form DATE: DAY 14 OF 15 Shooting Review Introductory activity Simon Says Shooting Remaining class Split the class into 2 groups and run 10 stations 1) A group practicing their shooting against the wall 2)Second Group practicing Wrist shots with rapid fire Fitness Dodge Ball 15

Stick per player both goals and 2 pucks just in case 1) Participate in the Freeze Tag during the 2) Participate in a Scrimmage ) Demonstrate all the skills shown during prior days and put it into use DATE: DAY 15 OF 15 Scrimmage Introduction Explain how the class is going to go Introductory activity Freeze tag 5 Stretching Split up into teams 5 Fitness Apply what has been learned during previous days Have the teams that are waiting cheer while the others play Be the Referee to monitor things from up close and give them tips while they are playing Remaining Class 22 Switch teams depending on how many players there are. Have students go back to their spots and be ready for reflection after putting away their hockey sticks
