Olde Since 1983 News Since 1935 St. Augustine Since 1565 Ancient City Auto Club Antique Automobile Club of America March, 2015 Back in November, 2014, Ancient City Auto Club held their 30 th Annual Car Show, once again at the beautiful campus of the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind. The club and the school have enjoyed a wonderful partnership for the last several years, with the club benefitting from a perfect setting for their annual automotive get together, and the school enjoying the opportunity to acquaint the community with their facilities. To assist them in their vital work, Club President Dick Sherrod, on the right, and car show event organizer, Karen Erwin, on the left, presented a $1000 check to Amy Moring, Director of Development Advancement office, center, accepting for FSDB. Attendance at John s Breakfast Explodes! Twenty-eight men met for breakfast and good times February 13 at Steak n Shake And btw they brought their cars. 2

JOHN S OLD GUYS BREAKFAST SETS A NEW RECORD Maybe it was too cold to work out in the garage, and definitely too cold to play golf, but whatever the reason, we had 28 Old Guys attend the meeting Feb 13, 2015, which breaks the previous record of 24. Our waitress Marsha was definitely put to the test and all got served in due time. Charlie Williams and Bill Soman even drove convertibles with the top down. Attending were: Bill Soman 61 Corvette Dick Sherrod 57 T Bird Danny Stephens 69 Camaro Vin Pellegrino Peter Starr 51 Studebaker Convert Larry Rogar guest Chriss Mazzarella Paul Powell Jim Arpaia new ACAC member Dudley New Jim Lepard Dave Burrows 48 Merc wagon Tony Sopranzi Ray Emery Stan Zwiercan Bobby Guice 07 Corvette Mark Young 34 Ford coupe Brian Wirz Gary Steinberger Tony Castellano Joe Greeves Jim Weiss 65 Falcon convert Fred Bauer Charlie Williams Cobra Ray Cornett 99 Jaguar Paul Lazar Bob Quackenbush 89 Cadillac Dewey Porter 87 Monte Carlo Let s try to make a new record at the March 13 breakfast. AML Automotive Repair, Welding and Auto Body While we have been gathering sponsors for Olde News, Bob and I have visited a couple of the businesses that advertise in our newsletter. Most recently we visited AML Extreme Powder Coating at 7750 US 1 South, St. Aug. 32086 Anthony Lorenti is the owner and has operated here for 8 years. Powder coating involves an electrostatic process to adhere to the item you want powder coated for a smooth finish and rust protection. Anthony has the largest oven in the area. The fence above, which was beautifully smooth and brightly colored would fit in the oven with much room to spare. After all the sanding and preparation the oven has to be heated to 380 degrees and the item maintained at that temperature for 20 to 25 minutes. His oven has the power to produce 1,500,000 BTU. The sand blast cabinet is 3 x 6 and his oven is 18 x 31. He also does welding, metal fabrication, frame- off classic car restoration along with the powder coating. He can make just about anything you have better. To the left you can see just how big the oven is. Imagine the cake you could bake! Phone 904-794- 4313. 7

Mecum Strikes Again Each year MECUM starts the yearly auction business off with their spectacular 9 day event, January 16-25, at Kissimmee, Florida. Over 3000 vehicles and pieces of road art are offered for sale with thousands of collector car enthusiasts lined up ready to pony up some serious cash. Joe lll and yours truly ventured over to the Orlando area Jan 19th and 20th to partake in the experience. We had a list of vehicles that we wanted to scope out for a potential buy. We split up in the staging area to look for the ones we had targeted and did a re-cap on them. I wanted classic and Joe lll wanted a hot-rod. Well, all you dads out there know how this one went! We settled on a 1988 Pontiac Firebird Formula with a Corvette LT1 motor, Corvette front disc brakes and sixspeed. After a slight overheating problem we had the winner shipped home to start a thorough going-over. It appears to be ok and is wicked fast!!!. I will be soliciting info on maintenance for the LT1 as I have limited knowledge with the motor. Happy Rides!!! Joe Lando 10

Different Trunks Three couples from ACAC joined the Auburn/Cord/Dusenburg Club for a trip through the wilds of Gainesville/Ocala. Here is what we saw: These were the cars that were touring with us. Nice Edsel. 11

Gorgeous home; nice people Elephant Art. It was cold and rainy but the cars kept going well. No mishaps. I couldn t get a good photo of the zebra. Paat and Bill Meyer, Bill and Chris Snyder and Bob and Jinny Quackenbush enjoyed this tour February 26- March 1. Such beautiful cars; nice rides in the country; interesting and fun people. Jinny Quackenbush 12

Rolling art not rolling. You know she has an opinion. One of every color. So many Studebakers! They had freckles. Curator said they might be extinct in the near future. (5-10 years) They all had such personalities! Rolling Art. 13
