What type of a team will yours be? When other teams play the Spuds, we hope they talk about how well we handle the puck and how tough we are to play against. Working hard and making sure you are doing things the right way are important for those things to be true about your team. The best thing about team sports is the relationships that are made during the season with your teammates. Teams that are the most successful are not always the most talented, but they are always teams that play for the person next to them. Teammates that stand up for one another, treat one another well, and work hard all the time to help everyone improve have a place on every team. MYHA Lobby To Get A MAKEOVER! At this year s MYHA Fall Social our reverse auction event raised $7000 to be put towards rejuvenating the lobby at the Moorhead Youth Arena. We have a strong committee of hard-working, creative-minded individuals who will be working to make improvements including high top tables, new flat-screen TVs, and a new rug, just to name a few! You can expect changes to come sometime this spring as we spruce up your home-away-from-home! MYHA board approves hiring of an Executive Director Moorhead Youth Hockey has enjoyed continued growth in players, membership, and gaming revenue. In order to support the needs of our growing membership, become a tournament destination for visiting teams, and meet expectations that teams and visitors have when playing hockey in Moorhead, the association must find a way to capitalize on existing revenue opportunities that will fund our growth and position Moorhead Youth Hockey for the future. Additionally, there is a long overdue need for MYHA to reach out and establish better relationships with MYHA alumni, business and community stakeholders, city leaders, and current MYHA members. All of this is essential as we look forward to a positive future for MYHA that includes quality (and possibly more tournaments) for area teams, and an organization, experience, and brand of hockey that is like no other in the state of Minnesota. For those reasons the MYHA Board of Directors approved a plan to move forward with beginning the process of hiring an Executive Director on a full-time basis. In this position, the Executive Director will be responsible for MYHA s consistent achievement of its mission, achieving financial objectives, managing staff, increasing fundraising, implementing new programs, and working with the board of directors to further promote the brand and value of our association. Watch for more details to come soon as the Board of Directors works out the final details in getting the most qualified candidate in place at Moorhead Youth Hockey. Thanks to all the members for helping around the rink and in concessions. It really helps us out when everyone helps out with cleaning and serving our customers. I would like to remind members that when you bring your player to the rink for practices or games please look at TV screen for locker room assignments. We want to avoid any injuries in the lobby with kids being stepped on by a skate. The outside rink is nearly ready with the cold weather helping us get a jump start. Hopefully, the weather will stay cold. We would like to put on blue and red lines, weather permitting. The shack will be heated, so please remind your player that we have no supervision, so let s not mess up your privileges by doing something that ban you from the outside rink. We will send out an email when the rink is ready. The scheduling of games and practices is coming along well. We are trying to schedule an equal amount of games for all teams as recommended by the Hockey Committee, but its not always possible to get that done. We hope to schedule the practices 3 or 4 weeks in advance so families can plan ahead. With coaches work schedules changing we cannot always get the consistency we desire throughout the month. Have a great Christmas and New Years, and Go Spuds! Denny
