An aerial map of the park and tent village can be seen under the Festival Layout tab on our website. Race Times There will be a steerspersons meeting at 7:00 am Saturday on the beach area by the concession stand. Races will commence at 8 am and run until approximately 4:30 pm. The optional Seniors challenge race and 1000 metre Loops endurance race will begin after completion of the regular races. Races There will be one 300 metre race and three 500 metre races. Placement in the first 500 metre heat will be determined by the results from the 300 metre sprint. There will be 3 or 4 boats in each heat. Following the regular races will be an option Seniors challenge race and then a 1000 metre endurance race. These are optional races and do not go towards final standings. See below for further information. There is no extra fee for these races. They are included in the initial registration fee. Practice Times Times for practice on our race course will be available on Friday August 5, 2016. These sessions will be for one hour between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. They are available on a first come first serve basis. If you wish to practice on our race course please contact Alison Bepple (alison.bepple@hotmail.ca or 250-572-1321).

[3] Paddlers Exchange We will help paddlers find teams they can join if they wish to join up with a team. We will also help teams that are looking for extra paddlers. (supra88@shaw.ca or 250-371-1860). Extra Steerspersons Teams requiring a steersperson please contact Phil Maher. The Race Grid If you want our help please contact Phil Maher The race grid will be prepared by Elemental Dragon Boat Ltd. and posted on our website during the week prior to the Festival. Race Course The race course will be on the Thompson River, running downstream from east to west. A copy of the race course is attached and is also available on our website. Boats The boats used will be D2 boats supplied by the Kamloops Dragon Boat Club and 6-16 boats supplied by the Kelowna Dragon Boat Club. The same type of boat will be used for all the boats in each individual heat but crews will race in both types of boat during the progression of the races. Mixed Team Composition The festival will apply the following rule for mixed teams: a team can have a maximum of 12 male paddlers. A crew may paddle with a minimum of 16 paddlers. Results The results will be recorded by Elemental Dragon Boat Ltd. They will be announced at the end of the race, and posted on the results board and our website. Awards Medals will be awarded to the top 3 boats in the Mixed, Women s, and Corporate team Categories (to be presented in the area by the Concession building immediately following the Women s Grand Final race). There will be a special prize for the Senior s Challenge races, although we haven t fixed the wager the teams will place on this race! There also will be a special prize for the team winning the Loops race.

[4] Seniors Challenge Races These races will be held at the end of formal races. They will not go towards the final standings. We will have a race between the women s boats and then a race for the mixed boats. We have spaces for three senior (55+) women s and three senior (55+) mixed boats to register for these races. The Kamloops KIDS (aka the Kamloops Interior Dragons) women s and mixed boats challenge all other Senior boats! This will be a warm-up for the 55+ Games. We want to show you other seniors what we are capable of doing! Other senior boats are welcome to join us. If senior paddlers wish to join up with other paddlers we will put together composite boats. Crews and individual paddlers can contact Phil Maher if you wish to participate in this race. There will not be an extra fee for this race. This is included in the registration fee. The Loops 1000 metre Challenge Race The Loops, a 1000 metre endurance race, will be held after the Senior s Challenge. Again, this race will not count towards award standings but will be an interesting and memorable experience! The race course will start downstream at the course finish line, go upstream and Loop around at the top of the 500 metre course. The boats will be turning left to right and make a slow single turn. You can make the turn as wide or narrow as you like as long as you circle around the buoys we will have placed upstream above the bridge (and please don t hit our bridge!). This will test your steering skills! If only some of your crew members want to participate we will try to organize composite crews from members of various teams. Interested teams and paddlers please contact Phil Maher. Company Challenge We are excited to announce that we will have a Company Challenge. Members and instructors of the Kamloops Dragon Boat Club have been working over the past few weeks with 7 company teams from local employers who will race in their own division. We hope this will be a very positive experience for them. We ask that paddlers with the regular teams encourage them in their first ever dragon boat races. Security The Paddlers village is located near high traffic areas of the park. There will be limited security so please guard your valuables carefully.

[5] First Aid St. John First Aid attendants will be available on site. Food Concessions/Restaurants/Beer Garden There will be food available on site. Please bring re-fillable drinking bottles. Additional Events The Kamloops Daybreak Rotary Ribfest (http:/www.kamloopsribfest.com), which includes BBQ food, a family fun zone, beer garden, entertainment and live music, will be held at Riverside Park on the same day as the festival.
