November 2017 NOTRE DAME BISHOP GIBBONS SCHOOL 2600 Albany Street Schenectady, NY 12304 (518) 393-3131 Fax (518) 370-3817 Dear ND-BG Families, I hope everyone has been enjoying the mild fall weather! We have had a ton of great things happening here at ND-BG. I want to first start off by congratulating Coach Barber and the football team for an outstanding season. They have made it to the Superbowl this Friday, November 3rd and are currently ranked as one of the top 10 teams in the state! Please come out and support them on Friday at Lansingburgh High School and cheer them on to a championship! Starting on Thursday our students will be performing the musical Cinderella! The show runs Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. The students have been working hard with Mrs. Neidl, Mr. Biggs and Mrs. Anchukaitis since the middle of August! If you do not already have tickets get them now before they sell out! We recently completed our Fall open house and had a great turnout! Our student tour guides did a great job of showing these families what we have to offer! There was tremendous feedback from the visitors! As we close out the month we see the Golden Gallop fundraiser come to an end. We surpassed our goal of $20,000 and we still are counting the last donations for the final tally. I want to congratulate the seniors for an awesome effort. They had 100% participation rate and raised over $5000 on their own! They showed great leadership and should be proud of their accomplishment! All of your donations goes towards the $300 fundraising fee. For further opportunities to help pay down your fundraising fee we will be having a mid-year tuition raffle for the second year now! We will run the raffle collection from now until the end of January. You can purchase tickets and have a chance to have your tuition paid off for the 2nd half of the year. See details included in newsletter. The WGNA food drive competition is also coming to a close. Since we started competing in this competition we have won it each of the past 3 years. We hope to make it a 4th year in a row! The food will be picked up on November 1st and we should have the results shortly after! On November 17th we will have a float submitted in the Thanksgiving parade in Schenectady! Come and watch our students march in the parade and proudly represent our school! BINGO!!! Did you know we run a Bingo game every Sunday? All proceeds benefit the school!!! You can win $3000-$6000! We are looking for help to spread the word to others who might be interested. MUSICAL In the 2017 season, the Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons Fall Drama Club, with permission from R&H Theatricals, will bring the age-old fairy tale Cinderella Enchanted to the NDBG stage. The Rodgers and Hammerstein website says it best: The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance. The cast of 25, from grades 6-12, will dance the gavotte and the waltz, and sing the songs for this story fashioned for the stage. The musical features such enchanting melodies as Do I Love You Because You re Beautiful? and Ten Minutes Ago. A stage crew of 20 additional students will support the effort through lighting, sound, stage setting, and costume management. Mrs. Linda Neidl, Mr. Adam Biggs and Mrs. Melanie Anchukaitis are directing this year s production, ably assisted by Mr. Michael Purcell, class of 74, our musician extraordinaire. Will the Fairy Godmother turn the pumpkins into a coach, and our cats and mice into coachmen and four white horses? Will Cinderella go to the Ball, and will the Prince find the wearer of the glass slipper? Plan to attend one of the performances of our musical to find the answer to these mystifying questions! Our show opens on November 2 nd at 10am with a matinee free of charge for senior citizens and grade school children. Evening performances begin at 7pm on November 2 nd, 3 rd and 4 th.
