VIENNA YOUTH SOCCER SUCCESS IS NO ACCIDENT. IT IS HARD WORK, PERSEVERANCE, LEARNING, STUDYING, SACRIFICE AND MOST OF ALL, LOVE OF WHAT YOUR E ARE DOING OR LEARNING. - PELÈ

Mission and Vision Mission To provide the opportunity for children of all abilities living in and near Vienna to be involved in a high-quality soccer experience. Vision To build character, confidence, and a lifelong love of soccer by providing a continuum of competitive, high quality and positive soccer experience for all players in the Vienna community. I Vienna Youth Soccer 5

Vienna Youth Soccer What? VYS Travel is a competitive soccer program for U9-U19 boys and girls focused on player development in an environment that promotes character, confidence and community. How? All VYS Travel teams are coached by VYS professional staff and organized by age groups. Within age groups teams are formed by ability to ensure the development of all players is maximized. The training and coaching of VYS Travel teams are governed by the VYS Travel Coaches handbook. Why? VYS Travel provides opportunities for players to participate in high quality, competitive soccer to help them reach personal goals and to develop as players to reach their full soccer potential. I Vienna Youth Soccer 6

Vienna Youth Soccer Aims To identify and support the development of every player. To enhance player development, incorporating technical, tactical, physical and psychological/social aspects. To identify, recruit and develop the most talented coaches. To implement a comprehensive coach mentoring program for the development of coaches. Objectives To develop players to reach their individual goals and ambitions. To support coaches to progress and develop. To ensure all VYS families have a positive experience as part of the Vienna Community. I Vienna Youth Soccer 7

Coaching Philosophy The VYS coaching philosophy is centered on player development and can be characterized by 4 main components: Training and competition are age and ability based. At younger ages, the focus is on ball mastery. At older ages, decision making and problem solving as a team become important. Training is reality based. Does it look like soccer? Replicate problems players face in competition in a meaningful way during training. Learning is experiential. Do we encourage learning by doing? Create an environment where failure is allowed and utilized as a learning tool. Coaching is holistic. Are we incorporating all elements of the game in our teaching? Does our development path make sense? I Vienna Youth Soccer 8

Coaching Style 1. Prioritize the development of all players. 2. Prioritize development over results. 3. Create a fun and challenging environment. 4. Be prepared and organized. 5. Let players learn by doing. 6. Let players learn from mistakes. (allow them!) 7. Be specific and detail oriented in teaching moments. (demonstrate.) 8. Emphasize decision making over outcomes. 9. Be calm and composed so players can be calm and composed in execution. 10. Provide regular constructive feedback, and be open and approachable. 11. Share knowledge, and be eager to learn. I Vienna Youth Soccer 9

Players born in 2010 are eligible and encouraged to tryout for U9! I Vienna Youth Soccer 12

2018-2019 Travel Program I LET ALL YOUTH TEAMS PLAY THE SAME WAY, LIKE THE FIRST TEAM. I ALWAYS PUT THE EMPHASIS ON LEARNING.SOMETIMES I HAD THE SUSPICION THE YOUTH COACHES WERE MORE CONCERNED WITH WINNING. THEY CARED MORE ABOUT THEIR OWN REPUTATION. I CARED ONLY ABOUT THE INTEREST OF THE CLUB. WHEN A PLAYER WITH TALENT COULDN'T DEFEND I PUT HIM IN DEFENCE SO HE COULD LEARN, BUT THAT COULD COST A POINT. BUT I DIDN'T CARE, I WAS BUSY DEVELOPING THE PLAYER. - CRUYFF

VYS Coaches Coaches are expected to attend Fall/Spring training sessions, Fall/Spring games, tournaments, and VYS-sponsored winter training. When coaches cannot attend, VYS will cover with another Head Coach or a parent assistant coach. Coaches are hired for one year term. Players/parents should not expect to have same Coach for more than one year. VYS never intends to make coaching change during the year. Optionally Coaches might attend Winter Futsal/Indoor games. Better Type of Training Moreover, the present study showed that PLYO training was the more efficient method to improve lower limb power performance vs. any of the other training interventions used. To conclude, it can be confirmed that the replacement of some soccer-specific training with plyometric, agility, or repeated shuttle sprint exercises would enhance explosive actions, agility and anaerobic performance to a greater extent in young soccer players than soccer training alone. Specific physical trainability in elite young soccer players: efficiency over 6 weeks inseason training. TRAVEL TRYOUTS TELL ME AND I FORGET. TEACH ME AND I REMEMBER. INVOLVE ME AND I LEARN. -BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

Tryout Process Soccer tryouts can be one of the most difficult challenges that youth athletes can face, both physically and emotionally. We want to ensure that the players are managed appropriately during and after this process, to ensure that they remain positive, and the experience has been worthwhile. It s important to remember the positives in the tryout experience and that these positives exist whether or not your young athlete makes the final cut. Tryouts are one of the many experiences in youth sports that prepare us for similar situations in our adult life, such as college applications, job interviews and more. IV Travel Tryouts 49

Lightning When lightning occurs, and is seen before or during a tryout, everyone must leave the field and go to their vehicles immediately. The tryout may resume after 30 minutes since the last lightning strike.
