Liability: By completing this application for competition, all participants and all team members participate at their own risk and hereby, for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns, waive, release and forever discharge all organizations in any manner affiliated with or participating in the coordination of the event, including Arkansas State University Mid-South and Mid- South Community College Foundation, Inc., its board members, staff, judges, officials, committee members, volunteers, all other sponsors, and co-sponsors of the event, and all of their respective advertising and promotional agencies from any and all claims, demands, suits, losses, damages, negligence, harm or injuries or actions which I may have or which may hereafter accrue of my participation in and/or travel to and/or from the event including, but not limited to, any and all personal injuries, illness, damage or loss of any nature suffered by me or any property damage. Rules for the Catfish Cooking Location: ASU Mid-South Event Site: South Campus Date of Event October 1, 2016 Entry Fee: $100 includes 12 lbs. of boneless catfish fillets and entry into People s Choice competition and two categories (Fried and Anything Catfish) Categories for Fried Catfish (cash prizes and trophy) 1st Prize - $250, 2 nd Prize - $150, 3 rd Prize - $100 Anything Catfish (cash prizes and trophy) 1 st Prize - $250, 2 nd Prize - $150, 3 rd Prize - $100 People s Choice teams will offer 1-ounce samples to the public with People s Choice tickets. Public will vote on the People s Choice winner. Trophy for People s Choice Winner. Catfish Tacos: (Trophy awarded for 1 st - 3 rd place) One half taco will be served to each judge (6 judges) Hushpuppies: (Trophy awarded for 1 st -3 rd place) Two hushpuppies with or without sauce/dip on the side served to each judge Catfish Appetizer: (Trophy awarded for 1 st -3 rd place) Any appetizer that includes catfish as a primary ingredient Anything Fried: (Trophy awarded for 1 st -3 rd place) Something sweet, savory or your choice while the grease is hot, show us what you got! 12:00 noon Fried Catfish Samples must be ready for judging 12:30 pm Anything Catfish Samples ready for judging 1:00 pm Catfish Tacos, Hushpuppies ready for judging 1:30 pm Catfish appetizer and Anything Fried ready for judging 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm People Choice Judging at team spaces 5:30 pm Awards Announced on Main Stage Rules & Regulations for Catfish Cooking Benefitting Athletic Scholarships at ASU Mid-South 1) A team should consist of no more than (4) people. 2) Each team will be provided with 12 lbs of boneless catfish. (Other catfish can be brought in for People s Choice) 3) Contestants must compete in the categories included with entry fee: People s Choice, Fried, and Anything Catfish. Other categories are optional. 4) Each booth must be equipped with the appropriate fire extinguisher for grease fires. We will provide access to fire extinguishers, but we cannot offer one to each team. If you have one bring it. 5) Cooking Teams must provide their own tents, tables, chairs, cooking burners, pots, utensils, ingredients and any other accessories needed. No electricity is provided. 6) No peanut oil will be allowed. 7) Cooking teams shall prepare their cooking ingredients on-site. 8) Cooking teams shall be responsible for clean-up of their cooking area and removal of equipment before 6:00 PM. 9) A grease container will be on-site for disposal of cooking oils after the cook-off. Please do not pour grease onto the grass or parking areas. This will be grounds for forfeiture of any prize, cash or otherwise. 10) No golf carts or other motorized vehicles allowed. 11) All entries agree to use safe food handling practices and use food handling gloves when preparing foods and serving. 12) Teams shall provide judges with samples serving sizes (1oz. min./judge) for (6) judges. 13) Teams will park in designated areas only and may not pull vehicles onto the grass.
