ARCA As A Sanctioning Body In addition to the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, ARCA also is a sanctioning body for approximately 80 other racing events, from local tracks (Toledo and Flat Rock Speedways) to three touring series and a Demolition Derby that has been running for more than 40 years in southeast Michigan. 12 States the ARCA Racing Series will visit in 2015 18 Different tracks on the 2015 ARCA Racing Series schedule CBS Sports Network will broadcast races from Toledo, Winchester and Springfield in 2015. Bodine coaches LeMastus to top of Talladega test charts ARCA PRESS RELEASE April 1, 2015 TALLADEGA, Ala. - April 1, 2015) - It helps to have a Daytona 500 champion and 18-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series winner hanging around. It certainly did today for Bo LeMastus, who topped the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards speed charts Wednesday in open testing at Talladega Superspeedway. Talladega Superspeedway is all about drafting, said Bodine, who recorded his second career pole position at Talladega as a rookie in 1982. It is so critical to know how to use it and when to use it... when to put the pedal to the metal and when to hold back. This place is so different than any other with the start-finish line close to turn one. Bodine serves LeMastus as coach, spotter and mentor. He also offers up some great advice as necessary. Le- Mastus, in turn, answered back with the fastest overall speed at 182.902 mph in his own No. 42 Crosley-T&T Construction-Glad Performance Dodge Charger. He (Bodine) knows so much about motorsports, especially drafting, said LeMastus. He is an incredible coach and we talk a lot. I don t have a lot of experience on the big tracks so his input is invaluable. I am continuing to learn thanks to him. LeMastus, a veteran of AMA motorcycle racing, made 44 laps overall during the open test. Had a real fun day, LeMastus continued. We made progress all day... kept on tweaking...took it right down to the final five minutes. We know we re in the ballpark when we come back in a few weeks. Bodine, the 1986 Daytona 500 winner, never won at the 2.66-mile Talladega track, but did have a runner-up and third-place finish in the two 1988 NA- SCAR Sprint Cup Series races. Buster Graham, driving a Roulo Brothers Racing Ford Fusion, was second fastest overall at 182.664 mph. 2014 ARCA RACING SERIES CHAMPION MASON MITCHELL AND 2014 ARCA SCOTT ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AUSTIN WAYNE SELF. The Roulo Brothers did an incredible job getting this car ready, said Graham. This is the same car we wrecked with at Daytona and it s probably the best speedway car I ve ever been in. They don t ever tell me the numbers, or gear ratios...they just want to know if the car is good, and it was really good. We got all the bugs worked out. We ll paint it, sticker it up and come back with a great car. Like Daytona, Graham will bring support from Louisiana Tech University for the Talladega race. We re so excited, Graham continued. We ll have 60-plus engineering students here supporting us. The Mechanical Engineering department at Louisiana Tech is probably the best there is. Their success ratio is unreal. There ll be so many people here wearing the school colors; we can t wait. I m gunna have the biggest cheering section I ve ever had. I m so excited. Third on the charts was Summerland, British Columbia rookie Sarah Cornett-Ching. Cornett-Ching, in a Tony Blanchard Racing Chevrolet SS, circled the circuit s biggest track at 182.584 mph. Cornett-Ching also turned the most laps Wednesday with 47 laps logged. We re ecstatic with today s test, Cornett-Ching said. The new engine package made a huge difference. I feel really comfortable. I ve got the Daytona experience to draw on. I got to work on my line today. I look forward to getting in the draft and practicing that next. What a great day. Mark Thompson, in a Ken Schrader Racing Toyota Camry, was fourth overall at 182.452 mph with Thomas Praytor following in fifth at 174.020 mph in a Max-Force Racing Ford Fusion. There were no on-track incidents. Wednesday s open test was held in preparation for the upcoming International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 at Talladega Superspeedway May 1. RECORD BOOK POINTS 2015 SEASON DRIVERS RACE FACTS SERIES INFO 14 Defending ARCA winner Tom Hessert looking for a repeat ARCA PRESS RELEASE April 15, 2015 (TOLEDO, Ohio - April 15, 2015) - It s becoming Tom Hessert s favorite time of year - Salem/Talladega season. Hessert has not only won three of the last five at Salem, the Cherry Hill, New Jersey driver is also the defending winner of the Int l Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 at Talladega Superspeedway. We re bringing back the same car we won with (at Talladega) last year, Hessert said. Same car we ve run the last few years at Daytona and Talladega. Hessert, in his eighth full season on the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards tour, will get the chance to repeat in the Talladega win column when the Int l Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 rolls off Friday, May 1. I can t wait. Talladega s such an exciting place. It keeps everyone on edge...you ve got to let it all hang out. The fans obviously love it, and it s pretty amazing from inside the car too. It s a tough place. Staying out of trouble is a full-time job. You re at the mercy of all those people around you. If things go bad for them, it often goes bad for you. At the same time, those people around you can be your best friends, especially on the last lap. Hessert, fortunately, had one best friend on the last lap at Talladega last year - his teammate Austin Wayne Self, who helped push Hessert to the front, and ultimately, under the checkered flag first. That s what s great about Talladega. If you re on the lead lap in the lead draft, and you ve got all the fenders on your car, you ve got a shot. Despite the importance of being in the lead mix on the final round, Hessert thinks the racing has changed over the years at Talladega. It used to be that most of the race was nothing more than a formality...just drive around in circles, stay clean, then charge over the last few laps. I m not sure what it looks like outside the car, but from inside the car, it s not just driving around in circles anymore at Talladega. You re racing your butt off all the way through...to stay with that lead draft. Although the end is what matters, you can t get too far back in the draft anymore and make it up in the last few laps...because, anymore, the lead draft in an ARCA race is 20-plus cars deep. You ve got to race really hard to stay toward the front to have a shot. Hessert also says the big one is not too far away in the mind. It rattles your nerves a little bit...thinking about it. No one wants to crash. We like to think that we re all good enough to keep out of trouble...that it s going to happen to the other guy and not us. But the reality of Talladega is that, deep down, we know it can happen to us...that it s out of our control. And that, for me, is what can be so unsettling. Hessert also says that crashing out early at Talladega hits hard in the points pocket book. We always have the biggest fields at Daytona and Talladega. If you crash early, and end up 37th, 38th, 39th...whatever, you take a huge points hit. It can be costly in the championship picture. Talladega is such an unknown...you just don t know what s going to happen. I guess that s what makes the place so fascinating. And from a fan perspective...cars two, three and four wide all day is as good as it gets. ARCA Group Qualifying Returns Group qualifying, for the second consecutive year at Talladega, will set the starting field for the Int l Motorsports Hall of Fame 200. Cars will be placed into groups based on their speeds from Friday morning s practice session. The fastest lap during group qualifying will determine each car s numerical starting position in the race Friday afternoon. The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards is part of a triple-header weekend of racing at Talladega, beginning with the Int l Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 Friday, the NASCAR Xfinity Series Winn Dixie 300 Saturday, and culminating with the grand finale Geico 500 for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Sunday. Practice for ARCA s Int l Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 is scheduled from 8:30-10:20 a.m. Friday morning with Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell (group qualifying) following at 2:30 p.m. The Int l Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 is live on FOX Sports 1 at 5:00 local Central time. Enfinger earning Alabama Gang membership status ARCA PRESS RELEASE APRIL 21, 2015 (TOLEDO, Ohio - April 21, 2015) - ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards veteran Grant Enfinger was a little taken back when he was invited to participate in the renaming of the backstretch at Talladega Superspeedway last April. Despite his Alabama roots, Enfinger, who hails from Fairhope, felt a little out of place. After all, it was to become the Alabama Gang Superstretch, an elite club that includes brothers Bobby and Donnie Allison, and Red Farmer too, all legends in the sport of stock car racing. I couldn t believe they were calling me to be a part of all that, Enfinger said. I still don t know if I m completely comfortable with that. To even be mentioned in that category would be something you d have to earn. It was so cool to get to go up there and be asked to be a part of that press conference. I can t say for sure if I belong or not, but it was one of the biggest honors of my life. If Enfinger is still having doubts regarding his Alabama Gang membership status, his stats are showing signs that he indeed does belong. In fact, Enfinger just entered unchartered territory as the only driver in ARCA history who has won three consecutive races to open the year in consecutive seasons. Enfinger won the first three events in 2014 at Daytona Int l Speedway, Mobile Int l Speedway and Salem Speedway. Then he opened the 2015 the same way, winning the first three at Daytona, Mobile and Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville. Enfinger drives the No. 23 GMS Racing Chevrolet, which also fields full-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams. I guess we re getting there with all the recent success we ve had; I m just fortunate to be driving for GMS Racing... that s as good as it gets. Still...to be asked to be an official member of the Alabama Gang really surprised me...it s really cool. Everyone in Alabama has a huge sense of pride, and I know those guys (Allison s, Farmer, etc.) mean a lot to our sport. It was so neat to be able to talk with them and hear their stories and be a part of that experience. I know it s an exclusive club. I don t know what they think of me, but those guys have done some amazing things in our sport. Everyone in this business would be honored to be a part of that. Enfinger s next big goal is of course to get to Victory Lane at Talladega, which, he feels, would help solidify his membership in the Alabama Gang. His best finish at Talladega came in his first start there - third in 2009. Last year, he won the Menards Pole presented by Ansell and finished ninth in the race. At this point, Talladega is circled as our biggest target. It s obviously a really, really big stage and we want that (to win) more than anything. Talladega is a connection that goes back to Enfinger s childhood. Talladega is what got me into racing. My dad would take me to Talladega every year, usually twice a year. I can remember being there in the middle of summer when it felt like 120 degrees; but I didn t care...it was Talladega, and there was nothing bigger and better in my book. That s how the fire starting burning inside for me. Racing at Talladega was definitely a dream since I was a boy. I had no idea at the time it would ever happen to us, but it was always definitely a dream. I was shocked when we ran third there back in 09 in our own car. That was a surprise for sure. Enfinger says it will come down to the last lap at Talladega. Talladega lends itself to more sideby-side, and more passing for the lead. It ll come down to the last lap where it s always anyone s guess. Enfinger s got two big goals in mind. We re going after a championship this year. We really want that trophy at Talladega too...maybe just as bad. After the race, I have to go back to school to take a few more finals and then graduate on May 9. Finishing college is something that is important to me. Of course my goal is for racing to be my full-time job, but I m realistic in understanding how hard it is to make that happen. My college degree is the backup plan if I cannot race for the rest of my life. Graduation date: Saturday, May 9, 2015 Degree: Bachelor of Arts in Communications Studies
