HEAD COACH COLLEEN CASHMAN-MCSWEEN Colleen Cashman-McSween is in her second season at the helm of the UAlbany women s golf program. In her first season, the Great Danes competed in 10 events, placing second at the ECAC Championship in the fall and third in the MAAC Championship in the spring. The MAAC performance marked the Danes best finish since becoming an associate member of the conference in 2010. In addition, seven athletes were named to the MAAC Academic Honor Roll under her direction. Prior to her appointment on Sept. 6, 2013, Cashman-McSween spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach with the University of Michigan women s golf team. During the 2011-12 season at Michigan, Cashman-McSween helped the Wolverines reach their seventh NCAA regional appearance, while capturing five top-five individual finishes and a fourth-place team result at the Big Ten Championship. Michigan ended the season ranked 48th in the nation at the NCAA Division I level. In the 2012-13 season, she helped the squad to co-medalist team honors at the Wolverine Invitational, and coached the tournament s individual champion. Cashman-McSween oversaw Michigan s recruiting process, and successfully committed two of the nation s top-35 recruits. She also monitored and oversaw the team s academic progress, helping the squad achieve a perfect 1,000 APR mark. Prior to arriving in Ann Arbor, Cashman-McSween coached 12 years at her high school alma mater, St. Thomas Aquinas, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She helped St. Thomas Aquinas to a 131-16-2 record in 12 seasons and to 12 straight Florida High School Golf State Championship appearances, winning the title in 2001 and earning a runner-up finish in 2003. The 12-year run is currently the longest streak in school history. Cashman-McSween has seven regional titles and four runner-up titles to her credit as well as eight district titles and three district runner-up finishes. She was named the Florida State High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2001 and earned Coach of the Year honors from the Miami Herald and Sun Sentinel newspapers three times (2001, 03, 04). In 2011, she helped in the founding of the South Florida Off-Season High School Golf Tour. In addition to her coaching duties with the Raiders, Cashman-McSween served as the director of marketing and membership for the Plantation Preserve Golf Course and Club in Plantation, Fla. from 2004-2011. Before beginning her coaching career, Cashman-McSween played in more than 100 professional golf tournaments as part of the LPGA s FUTURES Golf Tour. Making the cut in nearly 80 percent of her events, she posted nine top-10 finishes, including winning the 2003 Tampa Bay Next Generation FUTURES Golf Classic. She also had two appearances at the U.S Women s Open. She played in 2002 at Prairie Dunes in Hutchison, Kan., and again in 2006 at Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I. During her collegiate career at Purdue, she was a two-time All-Big Ten first team selection (1997, 98) and three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree (1996, 97, 98). A three-time captain, she played in 45 consecutive events for the Boilermakers, never missing an event in her career. Helping Purdue to five team titles in her career, she was a two-time medalist -- the 1996 San Diego State Invitational and the 1998 Hawkeye Invitational -- and garnered four runner-up finishes. Earning her bachelor s degree in restaurant, hotel, institutional and tourism management (RHIT) in 1998, Cashman-McSween was named Purdue s MVP on two occasions (1997, 98) and Purdue s Female Athlete of the Month twice (Sept. 1994 and Oct. 1996). She was awarded the Red Mackey Award for Commitment to Purdue Athletics in 1998 and has been nominated to serve on Purdue s Advisory Board for Women s Athletics. 2 UAlbany NCAA GOLF Notes

UALBANY NOTES UALBANY WINS FIRST MAAC CHAMPIONSHIP Under the direction of second-year head coach Colleen Cashman-McSween, the UAlbany women s golf team captured the program s first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championship Sunday at Disney s Magnolia Golf Course. Freshman Annie Songeun Lee took the individual title and Rookie of the Year honors, while Cashman-McSween was named the 2015 MAAC Women s Coach of the Year. LEE S WINNING PERFORMANCE Annie Songeun Lee recorded her best performance of the season (226), shooting a 76 on day one and matched her seasonlow with back-to-back 75 s in the final two rounds, finishing three strokes ahead of Siena s Victoria Nguyen (75-78-76--229). THREE IN THE TOP 10 The Great Danes boasted three athletes in the top-10, as junior Yoorim Kang (75-80-78--233) tied for sixth and sophomore Paige Fujihara (74-86-79--239) tied for 10th. Freshman Tiffany Kuroki (78-79-84--241) tied for 12th, while sophomore Nicolette Darois (83-87-82--252) tied for 31st in the competitive 40-athlete field. AGAINST THE FIELD UAlbany shot a record-low 303 in Friday s first round of the MAAC, a 320 on Saturday, and a 314 to clinch the title in Sunday s final 18 holes. The Great Danes finished 11 strokes ahead of cross-town rival Siena (319-310-319--948), followed by Fairfield (316-319-321--956), Quinnipiac (317-316-325--958), Dayton (316-327-318--961), Monmouth (322-333-323--978), Niagara (331-332--327--990), and Hartford (328-339-328--995). YOUNG SQUAD AT THE MAAC Sophomores Paige Fujihara was the only UAlbany golfer who had previously competed in a MAAC Championship. Fuijhara (89-86-83--258) tied for 18th places. ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM The MAAC announced its All-Academic Team on Sunday. Paige Fujihara, a biology major, and Rosalee Hearns, a business administration major, were named to the squad. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. PREVIOUS CHAMPIONSHIPS This year was UAlbany s sixth appearance at the MAAC Championship since becoming as associate member in 2010. UAlbany previously competed in the America East and won conference titles in 2004, 2008, and 2009, but did not receive bids to the NCAA Tournament. NCAA REGIONAL SITES The NCAA Regionals will be held on May 7-9. The sites are Raleigh, N.C. (North Carolina State host), South Bend, Ind. (Notre Dame host), San Antonio, Texas (University of Texas host), and St. George, Utah (BYU host). The Championship is May 22-27 at Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla. (University of South Florida host). The committee selects 72 teams (including automatic qualifiers) and 24 individuals not on those teams for participation at one of the four regional sites. Each regional site will be comprised of 18 teams and six individuals (not on one of the selected teams). Six teams and the low three individuals not on an advancing team from each regional site will advance to the finals site. NEW FORMAT FOR CHAMPIONSHIP The 2015 finals format for both men s and women s golf championships will consist of three days (54 holes) of stroke play for all, Friday through Sunday. After Monday, the top eight teams advance to the match-play team championship, and the 72-hole individual national champion will be determined. Both the men s and women s Division I golf committees believe the revised format will add excitement to the championships, which will be televised live during the last three days of each event by the Golf Channel. The team national champions will be determined by a match-play format consisting of quarterfinals and semifinals played on Tuesday, followed by the finals on Wednesday. FUJIHARA NAME GOLFER OF THE MONTH For the second time in the 2014-15 campaign, Paige Fujihara was named the MAAC Golfer of the Month, announced by the conference office April 1.
