Valleys Rovers Juvenile Club 2014 2014 has been a good year for the Valley Rovers Juvenile club. This year we continued the academy section of the club which accommodated up to 50, 5-6 year old boys and girls, which was very successful. We would like to thank Giggles Crèche Crossbarry for their continued sponsorship of the academy program. The u7 s organised a number of challenge games/blitzes throughout the year and competed very well in these. They are still honing their skills with a number of indoor sessions currently in the hall in Scoil Eoin. The u8/9 and U10 s competed in the Rebel Og monster blitzes throughout the summer and these proved to be a huge success. The u9/10 s are also currently indoors at the moment with some basketball training which we are using to enhance their handling and also getting used to special awareness through a different sport. This is proving a huge success. Ciaran O Sullivan from UCC Demons is taking this training. The u11 and U12 s played in the Rebel Og leagues and showed huge improvement over the course of the year, the u12 s qualifying for the football semi-final. The U11 s also qualified for the knockout section in Pairc Ui Rinn of the John Kerins tournament. The U13 s finished in the top six in their hurling league and top 4 in the football league also qualifying for the play off sections in both hurling and football. Congratulations to Brian Hoey (hurling) and Darragh O Shea (football) who represented Scoil Mhaoiliosa Knockavilla in the half time Primary games during the Munster championship. The U14 s played Premier 1 in both hurling and football losing to a strong Nemo team in football and also ran eventual finalists Midleton to 3 points in the hurling championship. We hosted the inaugural Jake O Donoghue Cup this year. Carrigaline and Sam Maguires came to Brinny to participate in this. Valleys emerged victorious on the day and Ann O Donoghue presented valleys captain Kieran Rice with the cup. Also on hand was Jimmy Barry Murphy to present medals to all participating teams. Congratulations to Charlie Lyons who was involved with the Cork U14 football squad this year. The U15 s played in the Premier 2 hurling championship this year after winning county titles in the last two years. The step up from A to Premier 2 was the difference as they lost to a strong Inniscarra team who went on to win the county. The U16 s met a good Macroom side in the East A football final and lost on a score line of 1-9 to 1-5. Following this they defeated Buttevant in the county Semi-final and got revenge on Macroom by winning the A County title. This was a tremendous win after losing a number of players through injury before the final. Just goes to show if you have a strong panel goals can be achieved. Congratulations to William Hurley who was involved with the Cork u16 hurling squad this year. The minors entered two teams this year competing in Premier 1 and East B in football and hurling. The P1 footballers qualified for the semi-final where they were beaten by county champions Carrigaline. The hurlers also qualified for the semi-final where they lost to Killeagh Itas, a game they could have won on the night.. The second minor hurling team lost to Grenagh and the football team lost to Aghinagh. The P1 team also qualified for the league semi-final but also lost to Killeagh Itas. In all we had 36 minor players playing championship this year. Congratulations to Chris O Leary who was involved with the Cork u17 hurling squad this year. We would like to thank Barry O Sullivan Centra Innishannon and Tim O Sullivan Clash Awards who continued their sponsorship of our parish leagues for u7/8 s again this year. On a glorious Sunday in September we had our annual sponsored walk along the Riverside walk in the bleach and also incorporated a fun day this year. This proved to be a huge success and a great day was had by all. Page 2 of 6

Hopefully a number of old washing machines in houses around the parish are being put to good use since then. The officers of the juvenile club would like to thank all parents who have transported kids to and from games throughout the year. Also to ALL mentors who give up their time week in week out without whom we could not run this very successful club. We are catering for close on 300 children and without the parents and mentors co-operation this would not be possible. Finally Juvenile club would like to thank the adult club for their cooperation throughout the year. To Valley Rovers PRO, for his outstanding contribution and coverage of the underage club in the bulletins, newsletter and social media. And finally a big thank you to Con Murphy who has accommodated all Juvenile teams throughout the year and always had the pitches in superb condition. Looking forward to another good year in 2015. Valley Rovers Juvenile Club will be host their annual Poc Fada St Stephens Day at 12 Noon starting at Barry O'Sullivan's Shop AGM Report Valley Rovers held a very successful AGM in the Dressing Rooms in Brinny last Friday night. On the night Valley Rovers elected a new President in Jim O'Mahony for the next three years. Jim has been a Trojan worker for Valleys throughout the years and was our longest serving Vice President. Valley Rovers also elected a new Chairperson in Johnny Crowley. Johnny becomes the first Rovers chairperson whose father was also the Rovers Chairperson in the past. In another first! Marion Delaney became our first female Vice Chairperson. Marion has been a tireless worker for the Rovers and no doubt will relish her new role. We wish both Johnny & Marion the very best for the year ahead. Another change at the top table sees John Lynch (Farnahoe) take over the secretary duties from Eoghan Delaney. This is John s second stint in the Secretaries position and again we wish him well for the coming year. We also thank Eoghan for his time as Secretary and have no doubt that he will return to the position again in the future Thank you to all the outgoing officer, selectors and members for their efforts in the very successful year that was 2014 and the very best of luck to all involved for 2015. a Valley Rovers will hold their Annual Sport Prediction league Prize giving in Johnny Crowley Bar at 9pm on Saturday 13 th December. Our winners are 1 st Place of 1000 to Darran O'Brien on 110 points sold by Ian Taheny 2 nd place of 500 to Kevin Murphy on 108 points Sold by Martin Cronin Joint 3rd & 4th on 105 points Noel Montgomery sold by Tim O'Sullivan & Liam Ring 200 each 5 th place John Burke who collects 100 As always Food will be served on the night Also on the night we will be remembering the Valley Rovers team that captured the South East Centenary Hurling Cup on the 23 rd December 1984. This was a major coup for Valleys at the time as they had not won a junior South East title since 1968. Indeed in 1984 they were defeated in the first round of the South East (no back door then) and on the way to the title Valleys defeated Intermediate side Tracton, South East Champions Kinsale, Carrigaline and Intermediate League Champions Ballinhassig in the Final after extra time. Many believe this victory was the spark which started of a hugely successful period for Valley Rovers in both Hurling and Football. Please find attached to the accompanying email Match report from the Southern Star in 1984 and a Team photo.
