INFORMATION PACK The Club to Pub swim is a 1.5km summer evening swim taking place in the heart of Henley. Starting from Henley Rowing Club, and finishing at the historic Angel on the Bridge (dating back to 1728). Brakspear, have brewed a special commemorative beer for the event, called Two Bells. All finishers will receive a bottle of Two Bells, Brakspear Club to Pub beer and a medal that doubles as a bottle opener to get it open! Event Overview Date: Saturday 22nd July 2017 Swim Start: Henley Rowing Club, Henley-on-Thames Swim Finish: Angel on the Bridge pub Distance: 1.5km Registration: From 4.00pm Safety Briefing: 6.45pm (compulsory for all swimmers) Start Time: First wave at 7.00pm Course: Starting at Henley Rowing Club, the course goes upstream for 400m before turning at large marker buoys and coming back down alongside Mill Meadows finishing at the Angel on the Bridge. EVENT LOCATION By Car Parking is provided at Wargrave Meadows car park, close to Henley Rowing Club. For Sat Nav please use the postcode RG9 2LT for Wargrave Road, Henley. There is a voluntary contribution to Sue Ryder to park here, so please have some change handy. Please note all cars will need to be removed from the car park by 10pm From M4 - Leave the M4 at Junction 8/9. Take the A404(M) towards 'Henley' & 'Marlow'. Leave A404M at the 2nd junction signposted 'Henley', 'A4130'. Turn LEFT at the give way and go straight over at the roundabout, again signposted 'Henley' onto the A4130. At the bottom of Remenham Hill turn left onto Wargrave Road (opposite the Little Angel pub). Event parking is on the left hand side, approximately 1/4 mile down Wargrave Road. From M40 - Leave the M40 at Junction 4. Take the A404(M) towards 'Marlow'. At the first roundabout go straight over towards 'Henley' and 'Maidenhead'. Take the next junction, signposted 'Henley', 'A4130. Turn RIGHT at the roundabout, again signposted 'Henley' onto the A4130 and follow the signs to Henley. At the bottom of Remenham Hill turn left onto Wargrave Road (opposite the Little Angel pub). Event parking is on the left hand side, approx 1/4 mile down Wargrave Road. By Train The nearest train station is Henley-on-Thames, which has links to London (Approximately 1 hour) and Reading (Approximately 20 minutes). Henley Rowing Club is just a short walk from the Town centre, across the bridge, and right down Wargrave Road 4
EVENT INFORMATION Before the Swim We suggest you allow 2 hours to register, prepare for your swim and be ready for the compulsory safety briefing at 6.45pm Registration from 4.00pm All competitors are required to register with photographic ID, before being allocated a numbered swimming cap, bag drop tag and timing chip. Bag Drop There will be secure bag drop facilities at Henley Rowing Club. Your registration pack will include a numbered bag tag. Please attach this to your bag and take it to the bag drop tent. You will be able to leave a pair of flip-flops (and a hoodie if swimming without a wetsuit) in the buckets at the start. These will be taken to the finish to be available for your walk back to Henley Rowing Club. All bags must be collected by 9.30pm Safety briefing It is compulsory to attend the briefing, which will be held approximately 15 minutes before the event start. You will need to be ready to start your swim immediately after this. Swim Start Once briefed, you will enter the river at the designated entry points. You will then have a short warm up before being asked to swim to the Start line, just outside Henley Rowing Club. There will be 5 waves going off with a short gap in between each wave. Support canoes will oversee your swim ensuring you take the correct course. After the Swim Once you have completed your swim, you can collect your flip flops and either walk back to Henley Rowing Club (approx 650 m) or catch the river taxi. At Henley Rowing Club you can shower and change. 5
EVENT INFORMATION (CONT ) River Taxi There will be a River Taxi running between Henley Rowing Club and The Angel on the Bridge pub throughout the evening. Tickets for the taxi will be available to purchase on the day, please bring cash for this option. BBQ There will be a BBQ at the Angel Pub, with burger, hot dog and vegetarian options. These can be purchased in advance with your swim registration. If you have already registered, you can access your Active account using this link https://myevents.active.com/, and you can add your BBQ choices to your booking. This must be done by Monday 17 th July. The food options are 5.50 if ordered in advance, and 6.50 on-the-day. Wetsuit Hire There will be NO on the day wetsuit hire for this event Selkie The Selkie shop will be at the event, with Club to Pub commemorative t-shirts and hoodies, and other items from the range. Spectators Supporters who wish to follow their swimmers should walk upstream of the Angel on the Bridge towards Mill Meadows, where they will have the best chance of seeing their swimmers and walking with them to the finish to meet them at the pub. Prizes Prizes will be awarded to the winners of each category, except the sporting wave which is non-competitive. There will also be a Team Prize awarded. Teams must have at least 4 swimmers to be eligible for this prize, the times of the first 4 swimmers to finish from each team will be combined, and the prize awarded to the fastest cumulative time. Category Changes Please check you are entered in the correct category. If you want to swim at the same time as someone of the opposite sex, you will need to be entered in the Sporting category. SAFETY ADVICE & INFORMATION Safety Advice Whilst water quality tests provide an indication of the suitability of a venue for open water swimming they do not mean that that there is a complete absence of potential pathogens. You are advised to adopt the following procedures to minimise the risk of infections:- Cover all cuts and abrasions, however minor, with sticking plasters. You should not consider swimming if you have deep cuts. Wash hands in fresh water before eating after you have swum. Take a full shower at the earliest opportunity. Try not to ingest water while swimming. In addition all swimming kit (wetsuit, costume, goggles, hat,etc) should be washed in clean water and thoroughly dried prior to your next swimming session or event.
