Grant for Midwifery Societies: Guidance for Applicants The RCM is very keen to support Student Midwifery Societies and to help them grow and develop student midwife networks across the UK. We hope that Student Midwifery Societies will form strong collaborative links with their local RCM Branches and consider affiliation with the RCM. To encourage the growth and success of student midwifery societies, the RCM is introducing an annual grant of 250 payable to any Student Midwifery Society that can meet the required criteria. Grant Requirements Applications to be made using the attached forms setting out in broad detail the purpose and use of the grant Funding to be used for RCM approved purposes only. The RCM has the right to seek return of any monies it deems to have been misused. Commitment to complete and return an evaluation within 6 months of the grant being awarded, evidencing how the funding has been used and how it has benefited the society. May including photographs or social media postings etc. If the funding is to be used for an event, evaluations should use the supplied standard RCM event evaluation form. Commitment to communicating Society activities and plans with local RCM Branches Failure to demonstrate and evaluate how the grant is used may disqualify Societies from a future grant. What can be funded? Please note, this is not an exclusive list but should be used as a guide Learning events, study days and conferences Subsidised attendance at RCM Annual Conference or other RCM Midwifery Conferences e.g. European Midwives Conference Producing materials that celebrate your Midwifery Society for recruiting new RCM members Raising awareness about the contribution of midwifery in your community Organising International Day of the Midwife events and initiatives Running a joint event/initiative with your local RCM Branch Who can apply for funding? A named Midwifery Society Committee member, counter-signed either by a local RCM Branch Officer or local RCM National/Regional Officer. Complete the attached form and tell us what you intend to use the money for. Send this to the RCM Head of Organising and Engagement, who will approve applications and if necessary seek any further information required.

How will the funding be paid? If successful, notification will be given within 2 weeks via the contact details provided on the form. Payment will be made directly into the Midwifery Society Bank Account. Affiliating your Midwifery Society with the RCM A University Midwifery Society can make applications to the RCM Branch Governance Committee seeking affiliation to RCM Branches. To be eligible for affiliation 75% of the members of the Midwifery Society must be RCM members and the local student union should have agreed to it in writing. The Country Director (Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) or Head of Organising and Engagement in England will contact the relevant RCM Branch to establish whether the affiliation is acceptable. Midwifery Society Branch affiliation will be reviewed every three years. Get active in the RCM Student Midwife Forum Each year RCM student midwife members elect representatives to our Student Midwife Forum. This gives student midwives a direct voice in all our campaigning and policy work and helps shape the annual RCM student midwife conference. Make sure SMF members know what is important to you. 2. Any who score 0-6 are Detractors. Any who score 9-10 are Promoters. 3. Next, add together the percentage figures for your promoters, in this example this comes to 77 (23 +54). 4. Then subtract the total detractors, in this example, this comes to 3 (1.5 + 1.5). 5. This gives you your Net Promoter Score which in this example is 74.
