register Registration will begin on Saturday, August 24, 9-2p Wed & Thurs, August 28 & 29, 5-8p Saturday, August 31, 9-2p Wed, September 4, 5-8p Registration will be held at 25 North 5th Ave and will continue throughout the year during regular MFA Office hours. There is a $10 registration fee for each family ($20 after Oct. 12, 2013) and a $15 AAU fee for each tumbling and karate student. Classes begin Saturday September 7th. For tuition payments, the year is divided into five 7 week sessions. Session 1: September 7 - October 26 Session 2: October 28 - December 21 Session 3: January 6 - February 22 Session 4: February 24 - April 12 Session 5: April 14 - June 7 MFA has two locations. The main building at 25 North 5th Avenue and Stairway of the Stars dance studio at 400 North 5th Avenue. Class and Office Hours are Mondays thru Thursdays from 4p-9p and Saturdays 9a-3p. dance at Stairway of the Stars 3-1/2, 4 & 5 YEARS Introduce your child to the world of ballet through music and movement. This class will begin to teach your child dance and dance terminology. Students will use props (scarves, balls and much more) and will be introduced to the ballet barre. This class will also introduce dancers to jazz and hip-hop with the latest music and steps. 6 YEARS AND UP This is the combination class for beginners through advanced. All dancers will be introduced to ballet, jazz & tap in this class. Class begins with a set of warm-ups & stretches to music, followed by ballet technique (center floor or at the barre). The class includes jazz, across-the-floor technique, turns, combinations and the ever popular hip-hop rountines. Then it s time to tap! All tap classes follow the Al Gilbert method for warm-ups & barre and finish with a practice routine. STRICT BALLET For serious dancers only. Ballet classes will be recommended to those students who show great interest in becoming a dancer or furthering their abilities in dance. Dancers should take 1 to 2 years of combination class before deciding to add this second class. Students must wear pink tights, pink ballet shoes and black leotards - without exception. Hair must be off the face preferably in a bun.
tumbling at FlipFlop & Fly PRESCHOOL/KINDERGARTEN Children are taught to appreciate movement and develop motor skills. They will learn to think, remember and be aware of their surroundings as they develop at their own rate. Girls ages 3-5 & Boys ages 4-5: once a week for 45 minutes. Classes held weekdays or Saturdays. GIRLS & BOYS 6 & UP As the children progress into school age classes, they continue to learn and appreciate movement, coordination, balance, strength, flexibility, conditioning as well as developing social skills. Students learn basic tumbling skills, moving up to more advanced levels based on our evaluation system. Progress can lead to participation in our Competion Team or recreational improvement to any level desired. Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Sub- Novice, Novice, Intermediate, Sub-Advanced and Advanced/Elite. Once a week for 1 hour. Advanced Classes 1-1/4 hours. Classes held weekdays or Saturdays. DOUBLE MINI TRAMPOLINE Children 7 and up will learn basic Double Mini trampoline skills and progress to advanced levels through our evaluation system. Progress can lead to participation in our Competition Team or recreational improvement to any level desired. Once a week for 45 minutes. Classes held Saturdays.
art ART Unleash the artist within! This high quality fine art program offers art instruction that goes far beyond cut & paste and arts & crafts. It teaches a student how to see in a new way and offers basic understanding of how to draw and paint. 30 minute group classes for Pre-Kindergarteners and one hour group classes for Kindergarten thru Adult. karate KARATE We have partnered with Focus Martial Arts to bring karate instruction to Maywood Fine Arts. Focus Martial Arts teaches excellent self-defense skills while excelling at helping its students to build unshakable self-confidence. Classes are grouped by age beginning at 5 years old. 45 minute group class. drama DRAMA These classes will introduce the basics of acting with the use of theatre games, scene study and improvisation. Actors will put these skills to use in several performances throughout the year. Ages 5 & Up. One hour group class. Uniforms are mandatory for all dance, tumbling and karate classes.
music INDIVIDUAL LESSONS Maywood Fine Arts offers individual music lessons for Piano, Drums, Guitar, & Voice. Instructor will work one-onone with student. Beginner through advanced. Children and adults. Piano - 30 minute individual lessons: $70 for 7 weeks. Drums, Guitar & Voice - 30 minute individual lessons: $80 for 7 weeks. KID S CHOIR This class is a great starting point for the development of your child s singing skills. It is also a great enhancement for those students taking private voice lessons or studying other instruments. The choir performs several times throughout the year. One hour group class. Ages 6 & Up. Ditch the workout, join the party! Another low impact aerobic class with a latin beat! Zumba involves both dance and aerobic elements to get you in shape. Playdate with the Pumpkin! Walk with Us! Pumpkin Patch Parade Saturday, October 12th Have a playdate with the pumpkin and walk with us at our annual Pumpkin Patch Parade. This is a family fun day as well as a fundraiser that supplies a significant portion of our operating budget for the year. Participation is critical! Without the proceeds from the parade, we would not be able to continue to offer affordable arts & fitness instruction. All Maywood Fine Arts students and families are required to participate & provide a minimum $50 donation. Walk sponsor packets will be handed out at registration.
