Last season, Eastern took all three matchups between the two squads, first knocking off the Chippewas at the McGuirk Arena, 72-59, Jan. 18, before Central left Ypsilanti with a pair of losses. First, the Eagles came away from a 64-42, Feb. 26, before a 72-60 victory in the first round of the MAC Tournament, March 10. LIKELY LOOK FOR CENTRAL MICHIGAN... # Name Pos. Cl. Ht. Things have not been so great for the Eagles since starting Mid-American Conference play. EMU is allowing teams to score 65.4 points per contest and knock down 40.1 percent of its shots. On the offensive side, Eastern hit on 41.5 percent of its shots in non-conference but have been held to just 36.7 percent in MAC games. BOND BREAKS OUT: EMU true freshman Tim Bond did not play in the first 13 games of the season due to injury. However, since recovering, Bond has appeared in all five Mid-American Conference games. Bond s best game came against Bowling Green, Jan. 21, when the Baltimore, Md. native went off for career-highs in nearly every category. Bond scored 13 points on 4-of-11 shooting, including knocking down his only three-point try of the season. The 6-foot-6 combo guard went 4-of-6 from the free throw line, while recording the first two assists of his career. On the defensive side, Bond rejected the Falcons on three times, while picking BGSU s pocket on one occasion. IS 60 THE KEY?: It seems that the Eagles offense has lost its luster since entering Mid-American Conference play. In fact, the Green and White has passed the 60-point plateau on just one occasion, an 82-81 overtime loss at Miami. Prior to the MAC campaign, Eastern had been held to less than 60 points on just two occasions. Both games came against Big Ten opponents, as the Eagles scored just 45 in a win over Michigan and 46 in a loss at Michigan State. CHIP DIP: Eastern Michigan senior Karrington Ward ate the Chippewas alive in his first season donning the Green and White. In three matchups with CMU, Ward averaged 17.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-7 forward hit on 47.2 of his overall shot opportunities, while also knocking down 42.9 percent of his 21 three-point attempts. The Lockport, Ill. native also averaged one block and 1.7 steals per game in the Eagles three victories versus CMU last year. WHAT DOES IT MEAN?: Last season, the Chippewas had one of the best offenses in the Mid- American Conference, however Eastern Michigan kept CMU in check during all three games. CMU averaged 72.5 points per game last year, but the Eagles held them to just 53.7. In addition, EMU held a team that shot 43.4 percent on the season to just a 33.1 clip, including the Chips scoring just 42 points in an Eagles victory at the Convocation Center. LAST YEAR AT McGUIRK: Last year, the Eagles came away from McGuirk Arena with a 72-59 win. Despite leading by just four in the first half, EMU exploded for 47 points in the final 20 minutes in large part to Mike Talley scoring a career-best 21 points, while Karrington Ward went for a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds. The Eagles shot just 7.7 percent from beyond the arc in the won. TALLEY RECORDS HIS 1,000th CAREER POINT: Eastern Michigan senior guard Mike Talley has proven his talent year in and year out at the NCAA Division I level and the Detroit, Mich. proved it on Saturday, Jan. 17, in the Eagles win over Northern Illinois. The 6-foot tall point guard stepped to the free throw line with just 21 seconds on the clock and knocked down the first of two free throws to record the 1,000th point of his career. Talley started his career at Duquesne, where he spent two seasons. In his first year as a Duke, Talley notched 222 points, averaging 6.9 per game before recording 231 in his sophomore campaign for a total of 453. Add that the 548 he scored at EMU following the game with NIU, and Talley has 1,001 career points as a collegiate student-athlete. GETTING THE MONKEY OFF YOUR BACK: No one saw it coming, but Eastern Michigan started the first three games of MAC play without a victory. Finally, the Green and White was able to knock off a gritty Northern Illinois team Saturday, Jan. 17, by a score of 54-46 at the Convocation Center, grabbing their first conference victory of the 2014-15 campaign. LEE TRYING TO CHART TOP: Redshirt-sophomore Raven Lee holds the record for the most points scored by a freshman in a single season at Eastern Michigan. The Detroit, Mich. native is trying to make a push to become the highest scorer as a sophomore as well. Currently, Lee has scored 261 points this year and is averaging 14.5 points per game. Without including any postseason contests, the six-foot three-inch combo guard is on pace to amass 435 points this year which would rank eighth on the sophomore scoring list at Eastern Michigan. GETTING DEFENSIVE: Although Eastern Michigan is well-known for its defensive abilities, the Eagles had one of their best defensive performances of the season versus Northern Illinois. EMU held the Huskies to just 46 points which was the second-lowest point total by any NCAA Division I team the Green and White has squared off with. Eastern held Rochester College to a season-low 35 points earlier in the season. 4

Despite losing one of the most prolific shot blockers in EMU history in Da Shonte Riley, EMU s Karrington Ward has filled in nicely. Last season, Ward blocked a total of 25 blocks last season and this year he has rejected 26 already. Along with Jodan Price (18 blocks) the Eagles lead the MAC at 5.3 blocks per game. MURPHY VERSUS THE MAC: Fourth-year Head Men s Basketball Coach Rob Murphy holds a 27-28 all-time record against Mid-American Conference opponents in his third MAC season. The Detroit, Mich. native won the MAC-West Division Title in 2011-12 during his first season as the head man at EMU, before going 7-9 in 2012-13. Last season, his squad reached their highest win total of 10, after going 10-8 in MAC play. Murphy and his squads have seen most of their success against teams from their own divisions, going 20-12, while they are just 7-16 against the East. BENCH BATTLE: Eastern has proved itself as a very deep team this season and it shows by the bench production. EMU has been outscored by the opposing bench just four times this season. They lead the bench scoring battle 384-352, scoring, with the reserves 30.6 percent of the Eagles offense. SHARP SHOOTING FROM JODAN PRICE: Adding to the Eagles depth on the bench, redshirtsophomore Jodan Price has shown that he can provide a spark to the EMU offense courtesy of the long ball. Out of the DePaul transfer s 139 shots taken from the floor this season, 100 of them have been from beyond the arc. When Price raises to let off a shot this season, 71.9 percent of the shots he takes are three-point attempts. JUST COULDN T FINISH IT: In its first three MAC games, the Green and White was 0-3, being outscored by an average of three points per game. The most disappointing part about the Eagles early struggles was that EMU had not been able to slam the door on an opponent as it had led by at least nine points in all three contests. Eastern held its largest lead in the loss at Miami, Jan. 10. EMU led by 25 points at the 5:55 mark in the first half, while they held a 16-point lead over Kent State, Jan. 14. In addition to those setbacks, the Green and White were leading Ball State by nine with just 13 minutes remaining in the contest but fell, 60-59, in overtime. THE PRICE IS RIGHT: The Eagles struggled out of the game going zero for their first 11 shots in the loss to Ball State, Jan. 7. Head Coach Rob Murphy turned to his bench and checked redshirtsophomore Jodan Price into the game. Immediately, Price made an impact scoring the first five points for the Green and White s, helping claw the Eagles to within one point, 12-11, after trailing by as many as six. Price finished the game 4-for-9 with 10 points off of the bench. THE THREE-HEADED MONSTER: Despite not having a clear-cut go-to guy in the middle, the three-headed monster of Olalekan Ajayi, Jerome Hunter and Mike Samuels have been productive for EMU. The trio has combined for 8.9 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. OVERTIME AGAIN: After not playing in an overtime game through the first 13 games of the 2014-15 campaign, Eastern Michigan has played back-to-back overtime games to begin MAC play, falling on both occasions. The Eagles first were on the wrong end of a 60-59 decision versus Ball State, Jan. 7, before falling 82-81 against Miami, Jan. 10. The last time that EMU played in back-to-back overtime contests was during the 2001-02 campaign. In similar fashion, Eastern Michigan dropped both of those games in Mid-American Conference play, first falling at Western Michigan in double overtime, 101-94, on Feb. 6, before dropping a 90-85 decision at home against Northern Illinois, Feb. 9. 5 NCAA Men s Basketball AP Top 25 Poll As of Jan. 19 TEAM (1st) REC PTS 1. The Eagles came in at No. 20, marking the second time Eastern earned a spot in the poll in the history of the mid-major top 25. Not only is it the second year in a row that the Eagles earned a spot in the poll, but as of the Jan. 19 poll the Eagles fell out of the poll. A TALE OF TWO HALVES: The Eagles saw themselves on the wrong end of an 82-81 decision in their overtime loss at Miami, Jan. 10, but did not trail much of the game. In fact, Eastern led for 40:09 of the 45 minutes of play in the game, including holding a 25-point lead at the 5:55 mark in the first half. The Eagles offense was on fire in the first half as they scored 49 points on 63 percent shooting. EMU knocked down 17 of their 27 shots, including going 6-of-10 from beyond the arc. In addition, Eastern shot 81.8 percent from the charity stripe. Conversely, the Eagles cooled off in the second half, hitting just one three-pointer while shooting 35.3 percent on 6-for-17 shooting. The Eagles turned the ball over 12 times in the second half, compared to just six in the first. TALLEY TURNS IT ON: Despite converting on just one field goal on three attempts in the loss to Miami, Mike Talley made his presence known on the floor. Talley recorded the first doubledouble of his Eastern Michigan career, notching 13 points and 10 assists, knocking down 11 free throws on 14 attempts in the contest. His 10 assists marked the first time an Eagle dished out 10-or-more since Michael Ross recorded 11 at Marshall, March 10, 2003. SCORING ALL AROUND: Eastern Michigan has seen an increase in its offensive production since Head Coach Rob Murphy s first season when the Green and White averaged just 53.2 points per game. Currently averaging over 70 points, the Eagles have made it easy as nearly every contest has seen two-or-more student-athletes score in double figures with the exception of EMU s games at Michigan and Michigan State. Eastern has seen five student-athletes score in double figures on two occasions this season. The first time was in their 100-42 victory over Concordia, before five Eagles hit that mark in the Green and White s loss to Miami, 82-81. OFFENSIVE ANEMIA: At times Eastern Michigan has had trouble finding the net on the offensive side, including the Eagles home setback to Ball State when the Green and White shot just 27.9 percent from the floor. It was the second time that Eastern has not connected on at least 30 percent of its attempts in a game. Overall on the season, EMU is shooting 40.9 percent from the floor and has been held underneath 40 percent in seven of its 14 games. 41st MAC SEASON: With Eastern s home contest against the Cardinals, EMU began its 41st season for the Eagles in the Mid-American Conference. The first year of MAC play for the Green and White was 1974-75 when the then-hurons went 12-14 and 4-9 in league play. Eastern has won three Mid-American Conference championships: 1987-88, 1990-91 and 1995-96. The Green and White captured MAC Tournament crowns in all three of those seasons, in addition to winning the tournament title in 1997-98. In 2011-12, the Eagles captured their first-ever Mid-American Conference West Division title. THE CENTURY MARK: The Eagles reached the century mark in points for the first time in the Rob Murphy era versus Concordia, Dec. 28. The previous high of an Eastern ballclub coached by Murphy was 95 points, coincidentally against Concordia last season, Nov. 12, 2013. The last time EMU recorded 100 points in a game was Nov. 14, 2008 in a 119-48 victory over Marygrove, a span of 197 games. OFFENSIVE FIREPOWER: EMU shot a season-best 55.0 percent from the floor by converting 33-of-60 from the field in the Dec. 28 victory over Concordia. The Green and White also improved its season free throw percentage by knocking down 25-of-30 from the line for an impressive 83.3 percent clip. The Eagles forced 20 turnovers, leading to 32 points, including 18 on the fastbreak. The paint was controlled by the home squad as well, 46-10, and the Eastern bench contributed with 47 points. MAKING HISTORY: In the battle of the Eagles, Eastern s men s basketball team soared past Coppin State University, 87-64, Tuesday night, Dec. 23. Returning to the Convocation Center for the first time since Dec. 1, following a four-game road trip, EMU improved to 10-2 on the 2014-15 campaign. The 10 victories in non-conference play are the most in program history since joining the Mid-American Conference in 1974. The Green and White then extended the record to 11 wins by defeating Concordia, 100-42, Sunday, Dec. 28. 20/20: Eastern Michigan has seen its duo of Raven Lee and Karrington Ward put together big games this season as individuals, but against Coppin State we saw the two Eagle stars put it 6

on display in a single game. Both scored over 20 points in the contest. It was the second time the duo has accomplished the feat in the same game this season, also reaching the scoring total versus Oakland, Nov. 17. BOUNCING BACK: Eastern Michigan has lost just three games this season and bounced back from its first two quite nicely. After a 73-64 setback at the hands of Dayton, Dec. 6, the Eagles came out to top a Big Ten Conference opponent for the first time since Rob Murphy s 2012-13 squad knocked off Purdue with a 45-42 victory over Michigan. Along with that, it was EMU s first win versus Michigan since the 1997-98 campaign. Following its loss to Michigan State, Dec. 17, Eastern Michigan fired back in Springfield, Mo. posting a 77-65 victory at Missouri State. The Green and White will look to do the same Saturday evening. A STREAK HAS ENDED: Eastern Michigan s basketball program has had great success underneath current head coach Rob Murphy in home games at the Convocation Center. The Eagles are 46-13 in games played at the Convo. However, they were riding a 17-game home winning streak until Ball State knocked off the Green and White, Jan. 7, to end the 10th-best home winning streak in NCAA Division I at the time. MERRY CHRISTMAS: Instead of a stocking-stuffer a few days before Christmas versus Coppin State, Raven Lee was a stat-stuffer throughout the night, chalking up 21 points (7-of-11), six rebounds, six steals and five assists in just 20 minutes of play off the bench. The six swipes was a new career high for the Detroit, Mich. native, while his five dimes became a new season best for the Eastern guard. WARD SAYS NO, NO, NO : EMU senior Karrington Ward has been known for his high flying ability on the offensive end, but Tuesday, Dec. 23, against Coppin State the Lockport, Ill. native showed off his defensive skills. The 6-foot-7 forward skied above all other defenders to block six different shot attempts which tied nine other performances for the 10th-most in a single game by an EMU student-athlete. EASTERN FINDS ITS STROKE: The Eagles had struggled on the offensive side of the ball in their road games prior to the 77-65 win over Missouri State. Eastern was shooting 30.5 percent from the floor and 25.4 percent from beyond the arc, while averaging just 51.7 points per game before exploding for 77 points on 51 percent shooting and connecting at a 39.1 percent clip from threepoint land. The 51 percent shooting percentage is the second-best mark on the season for the Eagles, while their nine three-pointers were tied for the most in a single game this year. MID-MAJOR SUCCESS: In the last two seasons, Rob Murphy s squads are 11-0 in non-conference games versus NCAA Division I mid-major programs. TAKE A LOOK AT THE POSITIVES: Although the result wasn t what Head Coach Rob Murphy and his squad were hoping for at the end of 40 minutes in East Lansing, the Eagles saw some positives come out of the loss. Eastern held Michigan State to its second-lowest shooting percentage on the season at 37.7 percent, while their 33.3 three-point field goal percentage was the second lowest percentage from downtown. The Spartans worst shooting performance came against then No. 11-ranked Kansas and their lowest three-point percentage was against No. 4-ranked Duke. In addition, the Eagles recorded eight blocks versus the No. 25-ranked Spartans, which was the third time this season EMU has recorded 8-or-more blocks in a single game. 19 YEARS LATER: The Eastern Michigan men s hoops had its best start since the 1995-96 campaign this year after beginning the season 7-0. The 1995-96 squad started 7-0 before falling to UTEP, 73-80, in the Sierra Medical Center Sun Carnival, Dec. 28, 1995, in El Paso, Texas. With a victory over Dayton on Saturday, the Eagles would have started 8-0 for the first time since joining the NCAA prior to the 1971-72 season; however, EMU was on the wrong end of a 73-64 decision. COMPLETING THE GAUNTLET: Eastern Michigan just completed a stretch in which it faced three-straight opponents from the Elite Eight in the prior season. The Eagles came out of the three-game stretch with a 1-2 record, which included a 45-42 victory over Washtenaw County rival Michigan, Dec. 9. ONE TO REMEMBER: The Dec. 9, 2014 EMU men s basketball contest will go down in history for the men s basketball program. Eastern came away with a 45-42 victory in Ann Arbor, Mich. defeating Michigan, its cross-county rival for just the third time in 31 meetings between to two programs. 7 The EMU Record Book Points (Season) 1. It showed in the Eagles victory over Michigan, Dec. 9. The Eagles held the Wolverines to just 42 points, their fewest point total since Feb. 9, 2009, when the Maize and Blue fell to then-no. 9 Michigan State University, 54-42. DOMINATING THE GLASS: The Eagles showed their dominance on the glass Monday night, Dec. 1, against Marygrove. Eastern pulled down 59 rebounds versus the Mustangs. That total ranked as the third-most all-time in a single game for EMU. BLOWING OUT THE COMPETITION: The Green and White went on a three-game tear where it knocked off each of the three opponents by at least 31 points. The Eagles started the trend against Longwood, Nov. 23, with a 79-48 victory, before knocking off Rochester, 68-35, and Marygrove, 83-52. WARD EARNS NO. 1 SPOT ON THE #SCTop10: Eastern threw down numerous dunks in its 89-77 victory over Oakland University Monday night, Nov. 17, and one dunk in particular got the attention of ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports. A thunderous slam by Karrington Ward earned the nod of the top play of the night on the show s Top 10 Plays segment. As the No. 2 play of the night aired, an impressive breakaway dunk by Jeff Green of the Boston Celtics, ESPN anchor Scott Van Pelt noted, This is filthy! Something s got to be great to beat this. Upon seeing Ward s dunk as the No. 1 play of the evening, Van Pelt exclaimed, Oh I see you Karrington Ward! Yeah, that s pretty nasty, that s number one! DOUBLE VISION: As many have gathered from his appearance on the #SCTop10, Karrington Ward has been recognized as one of the most dynamic players in the Mid-American Conference. The Lockport, Ill. native proved that by posting back-to-back-to-back double-doubles. Ward went for 22 points and 12 rebounds against Oakland, Nov. 17, before leading the Eagles in scoring and rebounding against Youngstown State, Nov. 21, with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Then, the senior recorded 12 points and 10 rebounds versus UNC Greensboro on Saturday, Nov. 22, giving him his third consecutive double-double. Last season, Ward had just three doubledoubles the entire year. THE MOST IN AN ERA: In the Eagles victory over Oakland, Nov. 17, their was a mark reached that has yet to happen in the Rob Murphy era. Eastern defeated the Golden Grizzlies, 89-77, and that 89 points was the most scored by a Murphy-coached team against an NCAA Division I institution. In fact, it was just the third time that EMU has notched 80-or-more points versus NCAA Division I opponents in the last four seasons. SWEEPING THE SHOWCASE: Eastern Michigan hosted three schools last weekend for the 2014 EMU Showcase. In the tournament, EMU went a perfect 3-0, defeating Youngstown State, 71-62, UNC Greensboro, 70-62, and Longwood, 79-48, on its way to a championship and a perfect 5-0 start to the young 2014-15 season. HAMMERING THE HORIZON: With the Eagles victory over Youngstown State, Nov. 21, the Green and White notched its fifth-straight win over a Horizon League-based team. That streak dates back to last season, Nov. 18, 2013, when Eastern welcomed Cleveland State into the Convocation Center. The Eagles knocked off the Vikings, 81-69, beginning an impressive streak over another strong mid-major conference in the NCAA. RETURNING AN ARSENAL: Despite only returning five letterwinners from the 2013-14 squad, the Eagles are bringing back quite a bit of offense to the 2014-15 campaign. In fact, Eastern returns over 50 percent of its scoring output from last season, led by Karrington Ward (12.5 ppg), Raven Lee (10.6 ppg) and Mike Talley (10.2 ppg). WARD RECOGNIZED AS THE 15TH BEST DEFENDER IN THE NCAA: According to BleacherReport. com, senior forward Karrington Ward was named the 15th-best defender in the country. The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 1.4 steals per contest last season, while also swatting nearly one shot per game. In addition, Ward was the Eagles top rebounder. On the defensive glass, the Lockport, Ill. native totaled 5.1 rebounds per contest. LEE BEGINS A CLIMB TO GREATNESS: Although it is very unlikely to catch EMU s all-time leading scorer Kennedy McIntosh, who posted 2,219 career points, the Eagles redshirt-sophomore Raven Lee has made his mark after just over one season of play, scoring 380 points in his first full season as an Eagle, Lee scored the most points of any freshman in EMU history. In addition to that, if he scores at least 380 points over the remainder of his three years of eligibility, the Detroit, Mich. native will be the first Eagle to join the 1,000-point club since Brandon Bowdry did in the 2010-11 season. If he continues the pace from his redshirt-freshman season, Lee will pass 8

Grant Long for No. 10 on the EMU all-time scoring list. Currently, after playing in eight games in 2012-13, 36 in 2013-14 and two in 2014, Lee has totaled 478 points in his career at EMU. WARD NAMED FIFTH-BEST ACCORDING TO HUSTLEBELT: HustleBelt.com counted down its top-25 players in the Mid-American Conference for the 2014-15 season beginning 25 days before the season started and it took until Nov. 9 for Karrington Ward s named to be called. The reason the EMU faithful had to wait so long was because Ward was named the fifth-best player in the conference. EMU PICKED TO FINISH THIRD IN THE MAC WEST: The Eastern Michigan University men s basketball team was picked to finish third in the West Division according to the 2014-15 Mid- American Conference Preseason Poll by the MAC News Media Panel. The announcement was made in Cleveland Tuesday, Oct. 28. Along with the preseason poll, EMU senior Karrington Ward was named to the MAC West Division Preseason All-MAC Team. WARD EARNS ALL-MAC THIRD TEAM HONORS: Eastern forward Karrington Ward was named to the 2014 All-Mid-American Conference Third Team after an exceptional season for the Eagles. The All-MAC teams are voted on by the league s head coaches. Ward was the first EMU studentathlete to be named to the All-MAC Third Team since 2012 senior Darrell Lampley earned the honor. The 6-foot-7 forward led the Eagles in scoring (12.5 ppg) which ranked as the 16th most in the MAC. In addition to his stellar scoring effort, the Lockport, Ill. native also led the Green and White in rebounding (6.4 rpg) which is the 12th-best in the league, while also being the seventh-best defensive rebounder with 5.1 per contest. Ward also ranked 13th in steals (1.4 spg) and 11th in three-point field goal percentage (37.7 percent). A SPECIAL SEASON: The 2013-14 season proved to be one to remember for the Green and White faithful. The Eagles saw their first 20-win season since 1997-98, as well as the most wins since the 1996-97 season with 22. In addition, Eastern made its first run to the Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinals for the first time since the 97-98 season. Moreover, EMU s Da Shonte Riley became the first player in Eastern Michigan history to be named the MAC s Defensive Player of the Year, while Karrington Ward earned All-MAC Third Team honors. FILLING A VOID: EMU saw its first-ever Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year in Da Shonte Riley graduate following the 2013-14 campaign. Although he wasn t known for his offensive presence, the 7-foot center earned the distinction after he recorded 87 blocks, while averaging 2.8 rejections per contest, which is the best in the MAC. The senior rejected five-ormore blocks in seven games, and four-or more in 10. The Detroit, Mich. native was an important piece of the 2-3 zone defense, which ranked as the top field goal defense in the country. At the conclusion of the 2013-14 campaign, Riley totaled 96 blocks for the year, which tied the most in EMU history. EMU S CAREER DIVISIONAL RECORD: The Mid-American Conference has had West-East Divisional competition since 1997-98. A complete list of divisional play is listed below.
