Section 1 Coaching Staff's Philosophy on High School Athletics The P.H.S. Soccer program of instruction is focused on providing players the knowledge, skill development, team concepts, and practice to make them a cohesive, competitive, and safe soccer unit. The program is committed to building a competitive HS Soccer Team at both the Varsity and Junior Varsity levels and assisting each athlete to achieve his full potential, to become an ambassador of the sport, and a role model for the district. The P.H.S. Soccer program always plays to win, anything less shows disrespect for the game. Winning is important, but more important is teaching players the value of preparation, hard work, perseverance, and commitment. Our players will play fair and observe the Laws of the Game. Our program respects opponents, teammates, referees, officials, and spectators. We accept victory with grace and defeat with dignity. We view both, victory and defeat, as learning opportunities. (Adapted from FIFA s 10 Statements on Fair Play). Our core values include: Be punctual, prepared, respectful, and responsible Put the team first Take complete responsibility for their academic development, Always give your best and never quit on the field, in the classroom, or in life. Value the differences in others and to make things work despite how things may contrast It is our goal for players participating in the PHS Soccer program to evaluate and remember their time in the program as one of the most valued and greatest experiences in their life. EXPECTATIONS What COACHES expect from PLAYERS. 1. Understand the TEAM comes first 2. Be ON TIME for practice and games. 3. Bring a good attitude & desire to try & learn. 4. Ask questions when they do not understand. 5. RESPECT school, league, and elders at all times. 6. RESPECT their team captains & support staff. 7. Practice their skills & learn their positions. 8. Display good behavior & conduct at all times. 9. Uphold team rules. 10. Be READY in complete uniform & prepared to work/play. 11. Refrain from sarcasm, obscenities, derogatory comments to all people

Section 2 Penncrest High School Soccer Program Contract General: Participation in the PHS Soccer Program is a privilege. A player shall earn this privilege by demonstrating his dedication, discipline and desire to work hard in the program. Players are also required to demonstrate academic performance and good citizenship to receive this opportunity. Eligibility: To be eligible for the PHS Soccer Program a player must be in compliance with district and PIAA policies for athletic eligibility. All players are required to have a signed physical examination on file with the High School Athletic Director. Releases: A player can be removed from the program by the school administration for failure to meet academic performance and attendance standards. A player can be sanctioned by the Head Coach for failing a class. A player who is continually absent from program activities, without approval, or maliciously destroys or damaged athletic equipment of facilities, will be cause for removal from the program. A player who is deemed to be in violation of the PHS Soccer Program Player Contract will be cause for release. Attendance: Players are expected to attend scheduled activities in the soccer program, which include, but are not limited to meetings, practices and games. An activity can be missed only with the expressed permission from a member of the coaching staff. If circumstances arise whereby a player cannot attend an activity the player must contact a member of the coaching staff prior to the event. Any player who fails to make a schedule event without prior approval will be recorded as absent and will be sanctioned by the Head Coach. Continued absence from program activities will be cause for removal from the program. Equipment Responsibility: Players will be required to replace any items of PHS equipment lost or damaged that is provided to them. Players will be charged for any damage to PHS facilities caused by them, which includes, but is not limited to the field, locker room or bus transportation. Uniforms will be returned within a week of the last game. School Decorum: Players are expected to conform to the rules and regulations of the PHS Student Code of Conduct. Players are expected to behave in a manner promoting the educational process at PHS. Players are expected to be respectful to their teachers, school staff and fellow students. A clear sharp mind is needed to play soccer effectively. Smoking, drinking, or the abuse of drugs is forbidden. If you are caught smoking cigarettes there will be a 3 game suspension. If you are caught drinking or in the possession of alcohol or illegal substances you will be removed from the team. Coaches, players, referees and spectators must be treated with respect at all times. If a player is

expelled from a game for fighting, the coaching staff and administration will determine the discipline for the player. Squad Selection: Cuts are the discretion of the coaching staff. These factors are considered in your selection: speed, physical condition, knowledge of the game, technical skill, aggressiveness, determination, ability to fit into the team, and dedication to the team. In some cases individuals have bad tryouts and may not show their full abilities. However, what is demonstrated during tryouts will be the basis for evaluation. You can be suspended and potentially removed from the team for disciplinary reasons. If you quit the team, it is your responsibility to notify the coaching staff immediately. Practice: Practice is essential for success. You will always do your best and attend every practice. You will be on time for practice! Vacations, employment, etc. should end by the first practice in August. Plan your schedule for your commitment on playing soccer for several months. The only excuse for missing practice or games is absence from school. Your parent or guardian must notify the coaching ahead of time by phone for any other circumstances. If you are absent from school you cannot practice or play in a game on that date. Practice is held rain or shine unless otherwise noted by the coaching staff. If poor weather cancels a game or outdoor practice, players should be prepared to practice indoors with sneakers. Players should be prepared for practice with the following equipment: 1. Small water bottle & big water bottle 2. Soccer ball (unless otherwise told), shin guards and extra socks & soccer socks 3. Proper footwear: cleats and running shoes 4. Proper practice attire: white/gray tee, socks. shorts, supporter & cup Injuries: All injuries of any nature must be reported to the coach at the time they occur. After the coaching staff has been notified, you must report to the trainer immediately, and must continue to see the trainer until you are cleared. If you see a physician for treatment to an injury, you will not be permitted to practice or play until you present the coaching staff and athletic trainer a note signed by the doctor stating you are physically able to play soccer. It is your responsibility to get to the training room with enough time before practice begins, not at the time practice is supposed to start.

Consequences if a game official, coach, or game manager reports a violation to the above rules: 1 st Offense If possible, the game manager will approach the spectator and quietly issue a warning. If the spectator does not comply, he will be asked to leave the property. (Failure to do so could result in a call to law enforcement.) This will be followed up with a phone call and certified warning letter from the Principal and Athletic Director stating that a second violation will result in a ban of all PIAA contests. 2 nd Offense Minimum of 1-year ban from all PIAA events or indefinite ban (school s choice). Spectators banned may apply for reinstatement after 1 calendar year. Expectations and protocol for parents/guardians: 1. Support your student athlete s efforts to success.

2. Work to promote a positive environment that is conducive to the development of your student athlete. 3. Treat all coaching personnel with courtesy and respect. 4. Assure that your student athlete will attend all scheduled practices and athletic contests. 5. Promote and model mature and sportsmanlike behavior at all athletic contests. Enjoy watching a moment in your child s life that cannot be recaptured. Parent/Coach Communication Plan Communication a parent/guardian should expect from a coach: 1. The expectations the coach has for your child as well as the players on the team. 2. Locations and times of all practices and games. 3. Team requirements. 4. Discipline that may result in the denial of your child s participation. Appropriate concerns to discuss with coaches: 1. Situations involving your child. 2. Ways to help your child improve. 3. Your child s attitude, work ethic, and eligibility. 4. Concerns about your child s behavior. Issues that are not appropriate to discuss with coaches or AD: 1. Playing time of any student athlete. 2. Team strategy, practice organization, or play calling. 3. Other student athletes. Procedures to follow if there is a concern to discuss with a coach: 1. Your child should speak to the coach about an issue before you intervene. This will help our Student Athletes grow into young adults. 2. Contact the coach to set up an appointment. If the coach cannot be reached, contact the athletic director. He will assist you in arranging a meeting. 3. If a meeting with the coach did not provide a satisfactory resolution, call to schedule an appointment with the athletic director to discuss the situation. The AD will only intervene if the issue has already been discussed with the coach. Please do not confront a coach before or after a game or practice. Meetings of this nature normally do not assist in creating a resolution to the situation. Please do not use email, text, or social media to discuss a team issue.
