You subsequently reach the city of the waltz, Vienna, via Linz, the Strudengau and the Wachau. Itinerary Day to Day Day 1 Salzburg Burghausen 55 km Arrival at the latest 9 am in the Mozart city Salzburg. The cycle path leads along the Salzach River to Oberndorf and further on to Burghausen (longest castle in the world). Day 2: Burghausen - Schärding 68 km You cycle past the Inn-Salzach-Blick (view) to the lovely city of Braunau and continue along the Inn onto 1000 year old Obernberg. You reach the baroque city Schärding via the Reichersberg abbey. Take a pleasant stroll through the city square in Schärding and the picturesque Schlosspark (castle park). Day 3: Schärding Schlögen 58 km The route first leads you into the enchanting three river city Passau. Travelling along the Danube you pass Obernzell and the Trappist monastery Engelszell until you reach the well-known Schlögener Schlinge. The Danube makes two turnarounds of 180 degrees here. Day 4: Schlögen Linz 51 km You leave the picturesque Schlögen and pass through several smaller communities on your way to Linz such as Aschach an der Donau and Wilhering. Today s stage destination is the city of Linz, an attraction not only with the world-famous short pastry tart, the Linzer Torte but also with cultural accomplishments, such as the Brucknerhaus and the Ars Elektronica. Day 5: Linz Ardagger/Grein 65 km You reach Ardagger/Grein, also the beginning of the Strudengau, via Wallsee by way of Mauthausen or Enns, the oldest city in Austria. Day 6: Ardagger/Grein Melk/Emmersdorf 54 km Soon the pilgrimage church Maria Taferl greets you from high above and shows you the way to Melk/Emmersdorf, where you can visit the famous Benedictine Monastery. The Melk Abbey is the largest monastery of the Austrian baroque period. Melk is also described as the Gate to the Wachau. Day 7: Melk/Emmersdorf Krems Vienna 40 km + train ride Today you cycle through the beautuiful Wachau. Krems is the destination of your cycling trip. Returning of the bike (if bikes have been hired) takes place here in our contract hotel. Afterwards enjoy a comfortable train ride to Vienna, the metropolis on the Day 8: Vienna Danube.
