Spring 2017 Swim Lesson Information Welcome to Health Plus Fitness Center Spring 2017 Swim Lessons! We can t wait to teach you and your children about water safety and swimming techniques. We have updated some information and policies. Please read through the information carefully before registering for lessons. Aquatics Coordinator: Lauren Eubanks Contact email: Lauren.eubanks@eamc.org Phone number: (334) 887-5666 The American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim courses offered at Health Plus Fitness Center are designed to give your child a positive learning experience and to teach lifelong swimming skills. Each course includes water safety topics, swimming skill practice, and play. Every child has a place in our program. Find the level that is right for your child and we ll see you in the pool! Class Descriptions Level 1 This class helps students feel comfortable and safe in the water by introducing basic water skills such as floating, bubble blowing, entering and exiting the water, submerging, and arm and leg action with support. Students participate in eight 40-minute lessons. The last class day will be a fun play day allowing children to practice their newly developed skills with toys and noodles. Students must be 3 years old to participate. There are no prerequisites for this class. This class meets Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday for four weeks. Level 2 This class gives students success with fundamental aquatic skills. Students learn to swim on front, back, and side using combined arm and leg action. Students participate in eight 40- minute lessons. The last class day will be a fun play day allowing children to practice their newly developed skills with toys and noodles. The prerequisite for Level 2 is the successful demonstration of Level 1 skills and comfort in the water. This class meets Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday for four weeks. Level 3 This class builds on the skills and further develops the strokes learned in Level 2. Students continue work on front and back crawl and are introduced to treading water and butterfly. Students participate in eight 40-minute lessons. The last class day will be a fun play day allowing children to practice their newly developed skills with toys and noodles. The

prerequisite for Level 3 is the successful demonstration of Level 2 skills. This class meets Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday for four weeks. Water Babies Baby s first swim lesson. American Red Cross Parent and Child Aquatics builds swimming readiness by emphasizing fun in the water. Parents and children participate in eight 30- minute guided practice sessions that help children learn elementary skills, including water entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, back floating, underwater exploration, and more. This is not a Learn-to-Swim class. For children 6 months 5 years. Youth Swim For Fitness (YSFF) This is a chance for kids to learn a lifetime fitness activity. Our 45 minute workout will improve endurance and perfect techniques, helping children learn advanced swimming skills. Children must have completed Level 3 or be at least 8 years old to participate. How to Register for Levels 1, 2, 3, or Water Babies Click on the Spring Registration button on the main Learn to Swim webpage on the Health Plus Fitness website (www.healthplusfitness.com) Begin filling out information about your child. If you have additional children, you ll be able to add them on the next page. You ll then be able to register for classes that have open space available. Select the level and time by clicking the corresponding bubble to select the class. Enter your credit card information and submit. A confirmation email will be sent to you. If you re interested in participating in classes in April and May, it is best to sign up for them all at once. Classes fill fast for Spring sessions and a class may become full if you wait. If you do choose to wait to register for another class later on, you ll need to contact Lauren Eubanks (Lauren.eubanks@eamc.org) to inform her of the class you d like to register for. Only she can make registration changes and updates after the initial registration has been completed by you. How to Register for Youth Swim for Fitness YSFF registration can be completed at the front desk of Health Plus. Inform our receptionist that you d like to sign up. They ll collect the registration fee and give you a receipt. You ll need to take this receipt to the pool and give it to the YSFF instructor in order for your child to participate in the class. How to Register for Private Lessons Contact Lauren Eubanks to schedule private lessons. You can reach her at (334) 887-5666 or through email at Lauren.eubanks@eamc.org Cancellations, Refunds, No Shows, and Illness Policies If you wish to cancel a Learn to Swim or Water Babies class you have registered for, you must do so at least 7 DAYS before the starting class date for a refund. Any cancellations made after that cannot be refunded. We cannot refund, makeup, or prorate missed classes due to scheduling conflicts, weather, or illness. If you cancel before 7 days of your registered classes starting date, contact Lauren Eubanks via email, phone, or in person and she can issue a refund directly back to your credit card. Makeup Lesson Policy The pool at Health Plus is required to close during severe weather (thunder, lightning, tornado warnings) in order to keep our patrons safe. Instructors will call the phone number filed in our computer system from when you registered if the pool closes, or you may call and check with our receptionist at the front desk. When possible, we will have makeup lessons (for Learn-to-Swim group lessons only) on Fridays at the same time as your

normally scheduled lesson. Be sure to confirm with your instructor about the makeup day and time. We cannot offer makeups on any day other than Friday, and we cannot offer refunds if lessons are unable to be made up due to multiple lessons being cancelled because of severe weather. Rules and Guidelines for Parents and Children We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to teach your children how to swim. We know how important it is for children to develop skills and safety in the water. In order to teach your children as best we can in the short amount of time we have with them each day, we kindly ask all parents to wait in the lobby during swim lessons. If you re a member of the gym you may workout during this time if you d like. The reason we ask this of you is because parents can be distracting for children and we need their attention on us and our instruction the entire 40 minutes of class, not on parents standing on the pool deck. We would love for you to come check out the last 5 minutes and watch them wrap up class each day. This is also a great time to talk with the instructors about how your child is progressing. Thank you in advance for helping us focus your child s attention on our instruction. Parents must walk their children to the pool and sign them in. Parents must also walk to the pool and sign them out. Please do not drop your child off from the parking lot and let them run through the building unsupervised. Children will not be allowed to participate in the lesson unless a parent has signed them in, and children will not be allowed to leave after the lesson until the parent that brought them signs them out. Children may shower off after lessons as long as a parent is supervising. Children under the age of 13 cannot enter the showers unsupervised. Children 5 years and older cannot enter locker rooms of the opposite sex! If you cannot supervise your child in the shower area, there are two showers on the pool deck that are available for you to use. Parents are not allowed to leave the building for any reason during swim lessons in case of an emergency. While we strive to provide the safest environment possible, accidents and injuries can and do happen, such as slips, falls, bumped heads, and potty accidents. When these accidents occur, we need to be able to quickly find the child s parent in the building. Thank you for your cooperation! Additional Information All lessons are held in our indoor, heated saltwater pool. Pool is 4 feet deep everywhere. There is no deep end. Children may want to wear goggles or a swim cap. You can bring your own from home or purchase them from our Pro Shop located by the front desk. I highly recommend this. Swim diapers must be worn by any child that is not yet fully potty trained.
