SWIM SQUAD Some swimmers advance to the stage where they are eligible to join our Squad. Squad training can prepare them for competitive swimming and is an excellent option for fitness. SwimSAFER Sue Pryor Swimming has a strong emphasis on teaching safer water skills. Children will be taught survival strokes, the use of survival aids, and the recognition of dangers. SwimSAFER week, in week 8 of each term, covers different themes where children are taught to think for themselves using the skills learned in lessons Deep water - all lessons have a component in deep water - this teaches coping skills very early starting with drop downs from all surfaces and into all depths, and then swimming to a safe place. COMMUNICATIONS Noticeboards: Our main noticeboard is updated weekly and includes important information, dates and reminders. This is also emailed to everyone who has provided their email address. Please also note the other noticeboards around the facility. These may display current articles and information on a range of topics including swimming, parenting, health, nutrition and exercise. Newsletter: We produce a newsletter in week 6 of each term. Latest versions will be sent via email and hard copies are available for those without internet access. Teacher Feedback: Teachers love to talk to parents about how their child is managing in the pool - but their time is sometimes limited. If there is anything important that we don t get to discuss during/after lessons we ll give you a ring. If you have any concerns or questions, or wish to discuss any aspect of your child s progress please contact the teacher. Photos: Sue Pryor Swimming advises that photographs and or videos may be taken of swimming lessons and carnival events. Sue ADULT LEARN-TO-SWIM: We offer lessons for adults to learn to swim, and encourage those who have never taken the plunge to have a go. Individually or in very small groups, we teach swimming and survival basics with sensitivity and fun! Pryor Swimming reserves the right to use them for publicity, promotional and marketing purposes (eg. Facebook, website, printed publications, certificates etc.). If you do not wish for your child's image to be used, please notify the office in writing.
PAYMENTS Lessons are booked per term Fees are due to be paid in full by the end of Week 1 of the term. Booking lessons per term holds your child/children's place in that class for the term. Please note that you are paying to hold a place in the class, rather than for the number of lessons you actually attend. Progressions We have 3 levels: Yellow Green Red - comfort and trust - propulsion to suit every swimmer - strokes Families with more than one child are eligible for discount for the second and subsequent children. Cash, cheque or on-line transfers are all welcomed. Credit Card facilities are also available at the office or by phone. Refunds are NOT available or applicable if classes are missed and/or participation stops. MISSED LESSONS Sue Pryor Swimming has found that regular attendance at the usual class is the most effective way for you/your child to learn and for you to get value for money. We do, however, understand that circumstances will occur that prevent attendance at the normal lessons. Therefore, if notice of an absence is given before 9am on the day of the lesson, we will provide the opportunity for a voucher swim for the missed class. Voucher swims are a half hour time in the pool for immediate family only and must be booked with admin. Voucher swim days and times are determined by Sue Pryor Swimming and expire after each swimming term. Should we be unable to provide your child with their normal lesson at the scheduled time (due to teacher illness/unavailability, a pool health hazard, a pool/building defect, etc) we will organise to reschedule that lesson at a later date in the term or in the holidays. BABY SWIMMING Babies are special! We encourage baby to start their water experience from 4 months of age. They have not developed fear of the water, and have some innate behaviours that help us in teaching them to be safer and competent in the water. Cueing to hold their breath, by using the words Ready, set, go is one of the first things your baby will be taught in their swimming lessons. We do not force this activity, but carefully monitor the child s reactions, and gradually take them under when they are comfortable (it s usually the parents who are most nervous!!). Our aim is to teach comfort, trust and confidence in the water, and impart vital safety skills. This is included in all our levels, especially in Swim Safer Week (week 8). Role of Parents Balance (not hold) your child so that they can feel the buoyancy Be a safe place ie: don t reach for your child, let them reach for you Give them time to experiment, be independent and think for themselves in a safe way Please be punctual, positive and encouraging Strokes Aims Effortless power = swimming long distances effortlessly and with speed Head and therefore body position are the building blocks of effortless power and therefore safer swimming Balance - able to float front and back with no floatation equipment this is the first step and most crucial even for Olympians!
CLASSES (half hour duration) Children are placed in small classes to suit their individual needs and experience and when possible groups are of similar ages and abilities. It s your first lesson.. Swimming should be an enjoyable activity so try to arrive relaxed and positive, especially if the experience is new. Your child will feel calm and secure and lessons will be more successful. Punctuality is essential. Classes will not be delayed for late arrivals. To avoid your children feeling rushed and missing the important warm up component of their lesson, please endeavor to be on time. What to bring: Get the gear packed and have a rehearsal at home, so your child is used to wearing their bathers. Have a light meal (if it s that time of day) and try to arrive early, so noone is flustered or rushed. Please toilet your child before the lesson. In the swimming bag bring - Bathers, swim nappy (firm leg fitting for baby) and towel Swimming caps are strongly recommended. Caps keep hair out of the eyes and mouth, reduce drag and improve pool hygiene. It is very important that children learn to swim without reliance on goggles. However, if eyes become irritated, then goggles may be worn in the latter part of the lesson. Due to Health Regulations, goggles must be supplied by the swimmer. Certificates Certificates are awarded for achievement of milestones - in small steps. Everyone likes to have recognition of a success, and we love to reward the children for their hard work. A list of the certificates that we award is posted on the wall.
