SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES AGENCY PREHOSPITAL POLICY Policy Reference No: 112 Effective Date: 12/01/2011 Supersedes: 06/21/2010 Review Date: 12/01/2013 SUBJECT: ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT AMBULANCE EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLY PURPOSE To establish the minimum equipment and supplies to be available on ALS ambulances for prehospital response in San Luis Obispo County. The equipment and supply requirements are absolute minimums and agencies are encouraged to maintain sufficient supplies to meet their specific needs. AUTHORITY A. California Health and Safety Code, Division 2.5, Sections 1797.204, 1797.206 and 1797.220. B. California Code of Regulations, Title 22, Section 100167 (a) 3. DEFINITIONS ALS Ambulance: A transporting ALS unit equipped with ALS personnel and equipment approved by the San Luis Obispo County EMS Agency. POLICY In addition to basic California Highway Patrol (CHP) requirements, ALS ambulances authorized to operate in San Luis Obispo County shall, at a minimum, have the following equipment and supplies available in the unit. SUPPLIES Oxygen/Airway Nasopharyngeal airways (soft rubber) Medium and Large adult sizes Oropharyngeal airways (sizes 5.5 12 or equivalent) Adult non-rebreather masks 2 Pediatric/infant non-rebreather mask 2 Adult nasal cannula 4 D or E size cylinder with regulator capable of delivering 2-15 liters per minute1 M, H, or K cylinder with wall outlet(s) and constant flow regulator(s) 1 Oxygen reserve: D or E cylinders 1 Resuscitation equipment and supplies: Face masks for resuscitation (clear) Adult 2 Pediatric 2 Bag-valve mask with O 2 reservoir and supply tubing Adult 1 Pediatric 1 Infant 1 Suction equipment and supplies: Rigid pharyngeal tonsil tip 2 Spare suction tubing 1 Suction apparatus (portable) 1 Suction catheters Two each of at least 2 sizes suitable for adult and pediatric endotracheal suctioning Suction bulb - 3 oz capacity 1 Trauma Bandages and bandaging supplies: 4"x4" sterile bandage compresses or equivalent 12 Trauma dressing 10"x30" or larger universal dressing 2 3 or 4 roller gauze 12 rolls 1, 2, or 3" cloth adhesive tape 1 roll Triangular bandages with safety pins 4 Vaseline gauze (3"x8", or 5"x9") 2 Tongue blade or bite stick 2 Burn Sheets (sterile) may be disposable or linen (with date of sterilization indicated) 2 Policy Reference No: 112 Page 2 of 7

Cervical collars: Stiff: Sizes to fit all patients over one year old Cold packs 2 Irrigation equipment and supplies: Saline, sterile: 1,000cc 2 Long spine board and light weight head immobilizer blocks 2 (or equivalent immobilization device) Straps to secure patient to boards 2 sets Splints, traction Adult and pediatric (A single device suitable for both is acceptable) Splints, cardboard or equivalent 18 arm splint 2 36 leg splint 2 K.E.D. or equivalent 1 Pediatrics spinal immobilization board 1 (or equivalent immobilization device) Infection Control Long-sleeved impermeable gowns 3 Disinfectant solution or spray 1 bottle Portable hand cleansing agent with microbial properties 1 dispenser Infectious waste bags 2 Eye protection - goggles or full-face shield 2 Latex free gloves 1 box Disposable Surgical type masks 2 Disposable N95 respirators or equivalent 2 minimum one per crew member Transportation Equipment Collapsible gurney cot with adjustable contour feature 1 Stair chair or equivalent device 1 Sheets, pillow, pillow case, towels, blankets (cloth or disposable) 2 Scoop stretcher with straps 1 Flat vinyl/canvas stretchers with straps 2 Policy Reference No: 112 Page 3 of 7
