Greg Lyeki Moab Trip Designer Arizona New Mexico HOW IT WORKS Each morning there will be a designated time to meet the Trek Travel and Trek Dirt Series staff members where we will divide into groups depending on interest, ability, and experience. Some mornings will be set aside for on the bike technical instruction, while other days you head straight for the trail. The morning sessions are an evolution based skill clinic for every ability and allow you to put them to the test on the trails the rest of the day! Some days will provide for on the trail instruction with groups based on ability. The daily trail options have different distances and terrain to suit your needs. You can also choose to take a day off or take a self-guided ride on one of the many trail systems that Moab has to offer. After your ride, you will have time at the hotel before gathering for dinner with the group or on your own. ITINERARY 5 DAYS / 4 NIGHTS RIDE SUMMARY Featured Ride: Klonzo Trails with optional bike path to Moab (weather dependent) Approximately 7-22 miles Welcome to Moab singletrack! The Klonzo Trails are the perfect place to get your bearings set for Moab and a great week of riding ahead. This new network of purpose built trails serves as a great introduction to the desert terrain and will allow you to get a better feel for the skills you want to address this week. Opt for a pedal on the butter smooth bike path back to town for some extra miles. Featured Ride: Rides from Town Amasa Back, Pothole Arch, and Captain Ahab (advanced technical ride) or Hurrah Pass Road out-and-back (beginner/intermediate self supported) Approximately 10-30 miles This morning you ll break into groups based on the skills you wish to improve and the experience you have on the mountain bike. We ll cover plenty of topics for you to put to good use this afternoon when you check out Amasa Back and the Pothole Arch Trail for some classic ledgy jeep road climbing ending with a great view of the Colorado River below. Of course, there is the not to be missed, Captain Ahab Trail; One of Moab s newest purpose built trail for mountain bikes. This trail presents amazing flow on slickrock and challenging technical terrain, ideal for showing off the newly acquired skills or polishing ones you ve already got! You also have the option to pedal the less challenging Hurrah Pass Road with views of the Colorado River, petroglyphs, and scenic canyons. Featured Ride: Magnificent 7 Trail System Gemini Bridges Road, Bull Run, Arth s Corner, Little Canyon, and Great Escape Approximately 14-26 miles Find yourself improving already from 2 days of riding and instruction from the best in the business. Today Flow is the name of the game on this technical singletrack downhill following the first 3 segments of the Magnificent 7 Trail System: Bull Run, Arth s Corner, and the Great Escape. Not sure which line to take? Unsure how to navigate that drop? We ll be sure to cover this on the trail today with plenty of encouragement along the way. You can also opt for the less technical Gemini Bridges Road to further improve your confidence level. Stop for lunch at the namesake parallel bridges that span Bull Canyon. Featured Ride: Lower Porcupine Singletrack (LPS) and Porcupine Rim (subject to snow line) (Intermediate/Advanced technical option) Sand Flats Road with Fins and Things Slickrock Jeep Trail (beginner option) Approximately 17 miles plus 5 miles of road and bike path You came to this camp for a reason, and today is it. In one word: Awesome. This legendary, mostly downhill trail is a favorite of most, of fering jaw-dropping panoramas and challenging technical terrain on rugged jeep road and desert singletrack. Did we mention 4500 feet of descending from high above Castle Valley to the Colorado River? And, if LPS isn t your style, take Sand Flats Road and tackle the moderate 9 miles of Fins and things along the way. Featured Ride: Moab Brand Trails Bar M, Circle O, Rockin A, Bar B Approximately 8-15 miles After a full week of riding the famed trails of Moab, your final morning provides a network of fun loops, with varying levels of difficulty from mellow to expert. Maybe you break into a group to bite off some more skills sessions, or just pedal out some tired legs. You get to choose your own adventure while enjoying stellar views of the snow capped La Sal Mountains as your dramatic backdrop. Rider Level: Rider Type 2-4 Terrain Mountainous Technical Singletrack, Doubletrack, and Slickrock with some areas of exposure. Average Daily Distance 15 miles Morning skills sessions utilizing props and other items are held in flat, open areas such as parks or gravel and dirt lots at the trailhead. Routes are subject to change due to trail safety, weather conditions and daily timing.
ACCOMMODATIONS & MEALS LODGING Best Western Canyonlands Inn 16 S. Main Street Moab, UT www.bestwesternutah.com Located one block from Main Street in downtown, the Canyonlands Inn is a comfortable and newly updated retreat within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants of Moab. DINING A daily breakfast is included each morning as well as a sack lunch and fruit for your ride. In many instances, we will have lunch trailside, overlooking the most awe-inspiring backdrops of the West. Most dinners will be with the group but some nights are on your own to explore the local fare (with suggested options). We will always try to accommodate dietary restrictions and food allergies at meals but please be aware that in some cases you may need to pack supplemental options. Please note your restrictions upon booking. Personal Cycling Gear: Beyond what is provided on your trip, please bring a Camelbak, or similar hydration system. It may also be a wise idea to bring knee and shin pads/guards such as the ones G-Form produces. Also, don t forget items such as helmet, seat, pedals, shoes, etc. Just label and pack in a separate, easily accessible bag. Remember to bring spare cleats for your clipless pedals, as it may be difficult to find replacements during your trip.
ARRIVING & DEPARTING HOW TO GET THERE Flights We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the trip start, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend that you fly into Grand Junction Regional Airport (GJT), Grand Junction, CO. SpringHill Suites in downtown Grand Junction offers a free shuttle from the airport from about 6:30 AM to 11:00 PM for guests with advance notice. Contact the SpringHill Suites Grand Junction at 970 424 5777 for reservations. Taxis can also be arranged from the airport to any location in the surrounding area, and will cost approximately $15 for a trip from the airport to downtown Grand Junction. SHUTTLE INFORMATION Trek Travel provides one complimentary shuttle from the SpringHill Suites, Grand Junction on the first day of the trip and back to the Grand Junction Regional Airport at the conclusion of the trip. The shuttle departs from the SpringHill Suites at 9:00 AM at the start of your trip. You must reserve a place on the Trek Travel shuttle when booking your trip with your trip consultant. If you are unable to make the designated shuttle time, please arrange for your own transportation to and from Moab. You can rent a car at the Grand Junction Airport and drive yourself, or you may contact Porcupine Shuttle (435 260 0896), American Spirit (970 523 7662), Red Rock Express (435 260 0595) or Roadrunner Shuttle (435 259 9402) to arrange transportation for yourself and your traveling companions. If you choose to get your own transportation to Moab, please let your trip consultant know and meet your guides at the trip hotel, Canyonlands Inn (16 S. Main Street, Moab, UT 84532) at 11:30 AM. DEPARTING TIME AND LOCATION Grand Junction Regional Airport Grand Junction, Colorado You will say farewell to your guides at 1:00 PM at the Canyonlands Inn. At the end of your trip, you will be shuttled back to Grand Junction. If you signed up for the Trek Travel shuttle it will depart at 1:00 PM and arrive at the Grand Junction Regional Airport at approximately 3:00 PM. Please do not schedule a flight before 5:00 PM. *The use of your Trek Travel bike ends at 12:00 PM on day of departure. Extensions may be available upon request but cannot be guaranteed before your trip begins.
