SUNSHINE COAST INDOOR ROWING CLUB Editor: Yvonne Duffy Email: yld63@bigpond.com www.scirc.com.au Hi Everybody, HEAPS of THANKS to the following for helping to make the 2017 QLD Indoor Rowing Championships a great success. Rob Cossalter - Rob is the Head Coach of the Sunshine Coast Indoor Rowing Club. He was the main commentator at the QLD Championships. Rob has had many years experience of coaching and competing in the sport of Indoor Rowing. Ian Gibson from Wollongong also did some commentating. He probably has more Indoor Rowing expertise than anybody else in Australia. Val Sheehan and Kerry Melbourne - Val and Kerry did a brilliant job selling lots of raffle prizes. The money raised is going towards the Insurance costs to run the Training Days and the QLD Championships. Thank you to all the people, who donated prizes and bought tickets. Kerry and Brian Halls - Kerry and Brian did the registrations very capably and put in a top effort. Thank you to the people, who gave the Indoor Rowing Club and Kawana Waters State College a loan of their rowing machines for the QLD Championships. They are Kawana Waters State College, Wendy Coghill, Kerry Melbourne, Kelvin Bazley, Ray Pratt, Colin Mancey and Alan Schofield. Colin and Alan are the proud owners of the new, classy, black concept2 Model D rowing machines. Thanks to Peter Neill from the ACT, who shared his extensive knowledge of Indoor Rowing and rowing machine maintenance so willingly in the warm up room and to competitors and supporters. Thanks to Treasurer, Kelvin Bazley, for all his hard work during the year. Thanks to Kai Manteit from Kawana Waters State College for helping with the Championships. Olivia Smith did a really lovely rendition of Advance Australia Fair at the Opening Ceremony. Thank you, Olivia. Thank you so much to Tyler Pearce from Beerwah State High School. Tyler was by my side for all my races, saying do not go too fast, be careful, we want you back at school, Miss etc. Thanks for being such a great friend, Tyler. Tyler was protecting me so much. That meant so much to me. I was not game enough to try to go faster!! Sorry to the lightweight people, who had to wait until we could round up some scales. We will make sure, that does not happen again. Ricki-lee and I had far too many things to try to remember. Thank you to Tracey for borrowing scales from a local relative. The next Indoor Rowing Training Day is Sunday, 25 th June at 4 pm at Alex Surf Club. Cheers Wendy Coghill President Sunshine Coast Indoor Rowing Club

CONGRATULATIONS to Richard Tomlinson from Toowoomba and Shelley Cornish from Tintenbar in NSW for breaking Australian Records. Richard rowed the 2000 m, 50-54 H in 6:29.7. Shelley s time for the 500 m 60-64 L was 1:54.0. Her time for the 1000 m was 4:07.7. Unfortunately, I was not made aware of these records until during the week. I did not have the time or energy to check records on the day, as I was struggling to survive the huge day at the QLD Championships after my heart surgery in February. There was a folder with World and Australian Records at the venue for people to check their times. Cheers Wendy Coghill President Sunshine Coast Indoor Rowing Club
On behalf of competitors, supporters and members of the Sunshine Coast Indoor Rowing Club and students and staff of Kawana Waters State College, I would like to sincerely thank Mike Partridge from Rowing QLD for taking the time and effort to drive to the Sunshine Coast from Brisbane to support the QLD Indoor Rowing Championships on Sunday, 4 th June. He trained a crew in Brisbane before and after this drive. Mike made a great impression on competitors, supporters and College staff. Mike watched a number of events and met lots of people. He helped with presentations and the drawing of the raffle prizes. He spoke about the Kings College crew from the University of QLD, that he is training to compete in the UK. Mike has said, that he will really promote the sport of Indoor Rowing. He was very impressed with the 2017 QLD Indoor Rowing Championships. Ron Batt from Rowing Australia also helped promote the QLD Indoor Rowing Championships. Thank you to Mike and Ron. Cheers Wendy Coghill President Sunshine Coast Indoor Rowing Club

AUSTRALIAN INDOOR ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS The 2017 Australian Indoor Rowing Championships will be held from the 4 th to the 12 th November at various venues throughout Australia. The Sunshine Coast Indoor Rowing Club has been asked, if we want to be one of the venues. In 2016 we hosted the Championships at Core Strength Fitness at Maroochydore. Laura Rathgeber was the computer person. Derek Coghill was her assistant. The Club needs somebody to put their hand up to organise these Championships. I put many hours of voluntary work into doing this in 2016. I have done heaps more than my share of voluntary work for Indoor Rowing with the recent QLD Championships. I am not prepared to push my health to the limits and do that again this year. If the Indoor Rowing Club gets to the magic 25 competitor mark, then we get quite good financial support from Rowing Australia. We did not quite make it in 2016. It was too close to the Pan Pacific Masters Games and there was not enough notice. Rowing Australia did fund the cost of the computer operator and an amount for Core Strength Fitness for using their facilities and rowing machines. They also provided flyers, posters and entry forms. Our Interstate and Intrastate competitors will probably go to a closer venue for these Championships. If there is not a venue for the Australian Championships on the Sunshine Coast, then possible competitors will have to travel to Brisbane or further afield or miss out. Please contact Wendy ASAP to discuss this, as we will have to let Rowing Australia know soon. MEMBERSHIP FEES are due on the 1 st July.
