BILL MONTIGEL HEAD COACH IDAHO STATE (1976) 27 Seasons // 36 Years Overall at TCU One of the most decorated coaches in the history of TCU Athletics, Bill Montigel has served 27 seasons as head men s golf coach and 36 overall as a member of the Horned Frogs family. Since becoming the face of TCU golf, he has provided the blueprint for building one of the nation s top collegiate programs. Montigel s tenure has been marked by consistency, highlighted by the program s current 25-year streak of NCAA Regional participation. The Frogs are one of only three NCAA Division I teams to earn a regional bid each of the last 24 years under the same head coach along with Clemson and UNLV. Only 15 programs have amassed the same streak with numerous head coaches. TCU golf s current postseason run is unparalleled in the history of Horned Frogs Athletics. The streak is by far the longest all-time for any of the school s teams and seven years more than their counterparts from the TCU women s golf team, which owned the No. 2 spot with 18 straight regional bids. TCU has not limited its goals simply to reaching the postseason under Montigel s watch. The program has collected eight conference championships in the past 17 years, in addition to appearing in the NCAA Championships 14 times since 1991 (16 times since 1990 when including individual bids). The 1997 squad, led by former All-American and current PGA Tour pro J.J. Henry, tied for seventh place for the Frogs best-ever national finish. That success was nearly duplicated in 2009, as a third-place individual effort by Tom Hoge helped boost the squad to ninth place. Montigel s 2013 TCU squad was as talented as any of his previous groups. Each of the five golfers in the regular lineup finished the season ranked among the nation s top-115 individuals according to Golfweek. The squad climbed as high as No. 6 in the college golf rankings before finishing the year at No. 7. Several individuals have flourished under Montigel s watchful eye, most notably current standout Julien Brun, who owns a school-record six First-Team All-America selections and also holds program marks in tournament titles (nine) and stroke average (70.44). Overall, Montigel has now coached 12 different players to 22 All-America honors on the links. Brun posted the top season ever for a TCU golfer as a freshman in 2011-12, shattering nearly every individual Frogs season record, including stroke average (70.51), average score versus par (-1.03), individual victories (three), top-5 finishes (eight), top-10 results (nine), finish percentage (91.3 percent) and rounds at or below par (27; tied Adam Rubinson, 2002-03). Brun s freshman season saw him collect three victories--more than any previous Frog had earned in an entire career--while becoming only the third first-team All-American in program history. He capped his remarkable campaign by claiming reserve medalist honors at the NCAA Championship. He is the third Frog to place second at the national championship under Montigel s watch, joining Henry (1998) and Adam Rubinson (2003). Tom Hoge claimed third-place honors in 2009, while Charlie Stevens tied for 10th in 1992. Brun continued his success into 2012-13. He produced three more individual titles and again broke the program s stroke average record (70.31). He became TCU s first finalist for the prestigious Ben Hogan Award after being a semifinalist as a freshman and finished the year as the first two-time first-team All-American in program history. Brun finished his junior season in 2013-14 on a tear, claiming three more titles over the final eight tournaments, including the Big 12 Tournament individual title and the NCAA San Antonio Regional crown. Brun earned his first conference title by winning by nine strokes, marking the third-largest margin of victory in league history, while setting a 72-hole Whispering Pines Course record with an 11-under 277. Prior to Brun s TCU arrival, Henry was the undisputed top golfer in the history of the program. He cemented his TCU legacy in 1998 by becoming the school s first three-time All-American and capping an illustrious career by being named Golfweek/Taylor Made Co-College Player of the Year. In addition to the national success, TCU s exploits have extended to the conference level, with five players having earned league golfer of the year honors. During one stretch in the early 2000 s, Frogs were named Conference USA Golfer of the Year three straight seasons (J.J. Killeen, Adam Meyer and Rubinson). Brun was named Mountain West Freshman of the Year in 2012, joining Colby Beckstrom (2003 C-USA) and Killeen (2002 C-USA) as Frogs to be named a top league freshman. TCU has made a habit of sending golfers on to professional careers with Montigel at the helm. Henry has made the biggest splash, having been a fixture on the PGA Tour for the last decade. The 2006 season saw Henry finish No. 29 on the Tour s money list, take home the Buick Championship and compete for the United States during both the Ryder Cup and World Cup. Another former pupil, J.J. Killeen earned his Tour card for the first time in 2011 after winning two Nationwide Tour events and finishing the season atop the Tour s money list. Hoge became TCU s newest addition to the professional ranks in 2011, earning an exemption to his first PGA Tour event, the RBC Canadian Open, with a win at the Players Cup in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He made history by becoming the first golfer since the Canadian Tour s inception in 1981 to win a tournament after advancing through the event s qualifying stage. The victory earned Hoge a twoyear exemption on the Canadian Tour and currently competes on the Web.com Tour. Other former Montigel pupils who have gone on to experience success on both the Web.com and Gateway Tours include Rubinson, Hoge, Colby Beckstrom, Franklin Corpening, Bret Guetz, Drew Laning, Adam Meyer, James Sacheck, David Shultz, Sal Spallone and Drew Stoltz. Montigel s rise in the collegiate golf ranks has been well-chronicled from a coach who started out with limited exposure to his particular collegiate sport to becoming one of the nation s most MONTIGEL S CAREER HONORS 47x Conference Coach of the Year [SWC (1990); WAC (1997); C-USA (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005); MWC (2009)] 41st NCAA Division I coach in any sport named Coach of the Year in 4 conferences 416 NCAA Championship appearances (14 team, 2 individual) 425 straight NCAA Regional appearances (1 of only 3 coaches in nation) 48 conference titles [WAC (1997, 1998, 2001); C-USA (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005); MWC (2009)] successful coaches. While his approach has proven solid, it was his arrival upon the collegiate golf scene that perhaps raised eyebrows. Prior to the 1987 campaign, Montigel served eight seasons as an assistant basketball coach and top recruiter at TCU under legendary coach Jim Killingsworth. Several of Montigel s recruiting gems were key performers on the Frogs back-to-back Southwest Conference championship squads in 1986 and 1987. One of Montigel s prized recruits was an undersized guard from Hollywood, Calif., named Jamie Dixon, who went on to help lead the Frogs to their back-to-back SWC titles before becoming one of the top minds in all of college basketball as the current head coach at Pittsburgh. When Killingsworth retired at the end of 1987 season, Montigel s career took a dramaticallyaltered path. The TCU administration had to look no further than the men s basketball office to find its next men s golf coach. As a graduate student at Oklahoma State, it was his friendship with legendary Cowboys golf coach and current OSU Athletics Director Mike Holder that truly kindled his interest in golf. Knowing that he could recruit, organize and motivate, Montigel added some of the valuable lessons he learned in basketball and applied them towards building and maintaining a top-ranked golf program. It took Montigel just three seasons to turn a mediocre program into a contender at the conference, regional and national levels. In his first 14 campaigns, TCU captured nine tournaments, an impressive feat considering the lofty competition. The Frogs have taken another step forward in the new millennium, capturing 19 team titles in the last 11 seasons. The squad has added 20 individual tournament titles since 2000, compared to only 16 in the previous 20 years combined. Montigel s ability to develop talent and his teams ability to perform have certainly not gone unnoticed. His peers have voted him conference coach of the year seven times in his career, including four straight years from 2002 through 2005, TCU s four seasons as a member of Conference USA. The honors have placed Montigel in uncharted territory. He is the only coach in any sport to be named coach of the year in four separate NCAA Division I conferences (SWC, WAC, C-USA and MWC). In 2002, Montigel was voted into the Horned Frog Classic Hall of Fame and was named TCU Coach of the Year by the Dallas All-Sports Association. In addition to his coaching duties, Montigel remains active on the national level. He serves as a member of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) with past stints as Chairman of the District VI Selection Committee and on the NCAA Men s Golf Committee. Montigel and his wife, Margaret, have two children, Kelli and Thomas. Kelli graduated from TCU in 2010, while Thomas is a rising senior guard for the TCU men s basketball team. NCAA ALL-AMERICAN HISTORY KEVIN HARRISON Second-Team All-American // 1980 DAVE DAVIS Third-Team All-American // 1980 DAVID SANN Honorable-Mention All-American // 1980 A junior college All-American in 1977-78 at Paris Junior College, Kevin Harrison was familiar with national recognition prior to coming to TCU. He continued to add to his trophy case by becoming a second team All-American during his senior season for the Horned Frogs. Harrison led the Frogs 1979-80 team in scoring average with 72.90 and also had four sub-70 rounds. Surprisingly, Harrison was never TCU s highest-placing participant in any tournament of the season. Harrison shot rounds of 74, 74, 79 and 72 at the 1980 NCAA Championship en route to an 11-over-par 299 and a 26th-place tie. Dave Davis put together a solid senior season in 1979-80 where he earned All- American accolades along the way. The third-team selection finished tied for 23rd at the NCAA Championship with a 10-over-par score of 298. Davis was the Frogs most consistent golfer during the campaign where he recorded TCU s low score in six of 10 events, including the first four of the spring season. Davis three-round 217 at the SWC Tournament was the Frogs best score and led TCU to a second-place finish. Davis then turned in a stellar performance at the NCAAs to help TCU to finish fourth in the nation. David Sann was one of three TCU golfers to find his way onto the All- America team following the 1979-80 campaign. Sann came alive in the spring semester to earn his way on the All-America roster. It was his fifth-place tie with a 290 score at the NCAA Championship that officially earned him All-America laurels - but it was his steady play over the final five tournaments that solidified him as a star. Beginning with his leading score 215 at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in March, Sann posted a solid finishing run of five straight events. For the season, Sann averaged 73.40 strokes per round. PETE JORDAN Third-Team All-American // 1986 Pete Jordan - a four-year lettermen - joined Sorenson as an All-American on the 1986 Southwest Conference championship team. Jordan, who received third team mention, later earned his PGA Tour card where he was active for over a decade. Jordan also was a unanimous choice to the All- Southwest Conference squad as he helped the 1986 TCU squad to its first conference title in its 61 years of men s golf. Jordan, who participated in the NCAA Championship as a freshman in 1983, returned to the NCAAs in 1986 and finished in a tie for 98th individually en route to helping the Frogs to a 19th-place national finish. JIM SORENSON Second-Team All-American // 1986 Jim Sorenson - a senior transfer from Texas Lutheran - joined the Frogs with NAIA All-American honors already under his belt. After winning the 1985 Butler National Invitational during the fall season, Sorenson went on to lead TCU as the individual medalist at two more events in the Spring of 1986. His biggest win came at the Southwest Conference Championship where his individual title helped the Horned Frogs to their first-ever conference title and earned him a spot on the squad. After a team-best 24th-place finish at NCAAs, Sorenson became a second team All- American. CHARLIE STEVENS Honorable-Mention All-American // 1992 Originally a walk-on at the University of Oklahoma, Charlie Stevens turned into one of TCU golf program s most valuable finds. After transferring to TCU, the Wichita, Kan., native proved to be the leader of the Horned Frog squad that finished third at the Southwest Conference Championship and competed at the 1992 NCAA Championship. Stevens was the only TCU individual who made the cut at the 1992 NCAA Championship that season. After 69s in the first two rounds, Stevens held on to snag 10th-place at three-under-par to gain honorable mention All-American status. CHAD MAGEE Honorable-Mention All-American // 1990, 1991 J.J. HENRY First-Team All-American // 1998 Honorable-Mention All-American // 1996, 1997 ALBERT OCHOA First-Team All-American // 1997 Honorable-Mention All-American // 1998 Chad Magee became the first TCU player to receive All-America honors twice in a career as he earned the national distinction following both the 1990 and 1991 seasons. Magee won one individual title in his two-year stint at TCU at the USA/ Japan Friendship in Tokyo, Japan. With seven top-10 finishes in 1991, the performer was one of TCU s most consistent golfers. In 1990, Magee was the lone Frog to participate at the NCAA Championship where he finished 33rd overall, which made him the first TCU golfer to compete at NCAAs as an individual. The next season, he led TCU by tying for 16th place at the NCAA Championship. With 11 career top-10 finishes - one of the most productive golfers in TCU history is the Frogs first three-time All-American J.J. Henry. His 14th-place landing at the NCAA Championship in 1996 and his 17th-place finish in 1997 earned him honorable mention All-America status during his sophomore and junior campaigns. Henry won the individual and team titles at the 1998 Western Athletic Conference Championship - thanks to a hole-in-one on the next-to-last hole. His second-place finish by one stroke at the 1998 NCAA Championship is tied for the best by a Frog and helped him snare first-team All-American honors. That season, Henry was selected as the Golfweek Co-National Player of the Year. Albert Ochoa was named a first-team All-American following his sophomore season of 1996-97 after he finished 36th overall at the NCAA Championship that season. Ochoa ended the 1997 season as the second-ranked college player in the country en route to earning the Western Athletic Conference s Golfer of the Year. As a result, Ochoa became TCU s inaugural first team All- American at the end of the 1997 season. In 1998, Ochoa - along with WAC Golfer of the Year J.J. Henry - led the Frogs to their second consecutive WAC title where he was named honorable mention All- American. TCU MEN S GOLF: 25 STRAIGHT NCAA REGIONAL APPEARANCES // #25

NCAA ALL-AMERICAN HISTORY (con t) BRENT GUETZ Third-Team All-American // 2002 ADAM RUBINSON Third-Team All-American // 2003 Honorable-Mention All-American // 2002 DAVID SCHULTZ Honorable-Mention All-American // 2003 Bret Guetz put together one of the most decorated seasons in TCU golf history in 2001-02. The senior earned third team All-American mention while also being honored as an Academic All-American. In doing so, he became the first Horned Frog golfer ever to achieve both honors in the same year. That season, Guetz won back-to-back tournaments in April, including an individual victory at the Conference USA Championship. Adam Rubinson enjoyed a stellar junior season that was capped off by a runner-up finish at the 2002 NCAA Championship. Rubinson finished just one stroke behind the tournament champion, but following the event, he received honorable mention All- American accolades. His second-place finish is matched in TCU history only by runner-up finishes by J.J. Henry in 1998 and Julien Brun in 2012, although Rubinson was the only individual to earn sole possession of the spot. He added a third-team national honor as a senior in 2003, when he also was Conference USA Golfer of the Year. A transfer from Colorado State, Schultz competed in 49 tournaments, including 36 with the Frogs in 2003 when he received honorable mention All-American laurels. Schultz was selected to the Conference USA All-Decade Team in 2005 after receiving first-team All-Conference USA accolades three times during his Frog career. He also earned PING South Central All-District honors in each of his three seasons. ADAM MEYER Third-Team All-American // 2004 Despite playing just three semesters for the Frogs after transferring from Baylor, Meyer made an indelible stamp at TCU as he was selected as a third-team All- American during his senior season. Meyer - the 2004 Conference USA Golfer of the Year - won the individual crown by nine shots at the league championships and helped TCU pick up its fourth straight conference title. J.J. KILLEEN Third-Team All-American // 2005 In 2005, Killeen became just the third athlete and first golfer in school history to compete on four conference championship teams. In addition, the Conference USA Golfer of the Year earned third-team All- America accolades for his individual achievements. Killeen carried a career-best 72.09 average as a senior and finished among the top-20 individuals in all but two events. JAMES SACHECK Honorable-Mention All-American // 2009 Sacheck was named an honorablemention All-American and also awarded PING All-Central Region and All-Mountain West Conference honors as a senior in 2009. The TCU senior was selected as the Mountain West Conference Golfer of the Month during the Spring 2009 campaign and finished the season by collecting nine top- 20 showings. He helped lead TCU to a ninth-place finish at the 2009 NCAA Championships by earning a share of 30th place on the final individual leaderboard. TOM HOGE Honorable-Mention All-American // 2009 Hoge produced a breakout performance at the 2009 NCAA Championship to earn honorablemention All-America recognition as a sophomore. He finished third overall to become just the fourth Frog ever at the time to place in the top 5 at the national tournament. Hoge is one of only three Frogs to be named an All- American by the end of their sophomore year along with J.J. Henry and Julien Brun. A native of Fargo, N.D., Hoge concluded his TCU career in 2011 by being named All-Mountain West Conference and also earning a spot on the PING All-Central Region Team for the first time in his career. JULIEN BRUN First-Team All-American // 2012, 2013, 2014 Brun has compiled a long list of firsts for a TCU golfer in his three years on campus. Already the most decorated student-athlete in program history, he is the only Frog ever to be named a first-team All-American three times in a career. Brun exploded onto the scene as a freshman in 2012, setting school records for victories in a season and a career (three), as well as for stroke average. He either matched or bettered those marks as a sophomore in 2013. Brun became the third Frog to earn reserve-medalist honors at the 2013 NCAA Championship as a freshman, tying for second place at Riviera Golf Club. He followed his breakout season by being named one of three finalists for the prestigious Ben Hogan Award as a sophomore in 2013. TCU MEN S GOLF: 25 STRAIGHT NCAA REGIONAL APPEARANCES // #26
