Call or email us at (231) 582-9009 Mainstreet@boynecity.com Help us bring Boyne City s rich and colorful history to life! Join us for a stroll through historic residential Boyne City At the height of Boyne City s lumbering era the population had grown to nearly 6000 permanent residents. There was actually a shortage of homes at the turn of the century. The call went out from city fathers. The result of which was development and growth which propelled the Village of Boyne into Boyne City as we now know it. Our public buildings became more impressive. Schools grew to meet the demand of the growing student population. City streets, yards and common areas began to burst with curb appeal. Nearly every corner held a church of varying denominations, with edifices large enough to hold their growing congregations. During that same period, some of Charlevoix County s most opulent homes were built right here in Boyne. Sadly, many of these homes have been lost to decay and the passage of time. The 2016 Residential Walking Tour is meant to be a celebration of those that have survived; a reflection on our city s past; and a remembrance of both growth and change. In 2012, downtown Boyne City achieved its listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The Boyne City Main Street Program brings you this second in a series of self-guided historical tours. Enjoy also our audio strolling tour of historic downtown Boyne City. Welcome and enjoy your stroll through history!
