Visit to - COACH HOUSE MUSEUM Feilding Fifteen members enjoyed an outing to Feilding on Thursday, 16 August. Lunch was enjoyed in e big, new Rosebowl Café before proceeding to e very impressive Museum. Brian Hunter, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable about early Maori history in e region, rough to all European pioneer equipment and implements. Upon entering e museum-proper, e scene was set by our being in a well crafted piece of native forest wi native bird-song filling e air. There were exhibits from when e first settlers started arriving in e region in 1874 rough to e decline of e horse-drawn era when e Model-T Ford appeared. Drays, gigs, wagons, sulkies, many of which are on display, all slowly became redundant wi e demise of e horse. There is also a beautifully kept, near complete, collection of John Deere tractors, trucks, balers, etc. donated by Fergus Crawshaw of Horowhenua. Overall, it was a very worwhile wander down Memory Lane - $12 well spent. Carolyne Blackwell.
