Premier Intermediate Football league Valley Rovers maintained their perfect start to their Div 2 league campaign when accounting for Dohenys in Brinny on Sunday morning on a score line of 0-13 to 1-6. Valley Rovers having won the toss elected to play with the breeze in the first half and went in at half time leading 0-6 to 0-3. Dohenys opened the scoring with a point after 2 minutes before Eoghan Delaney after a pass from Gary Farrell kicked the Rovers opening score after 6 minutes. John Cottrell posted his first of 6 points this one from a free on 9 minutes after Kevin Canty was fouled. Canty again set up Cottrell for his first point from open play on 14 minutes to put Valleys ahead 0-3 to 0-1. Dohenys drew level soon after with a point from a free and one from play. Canty set up Cottrell again for another 2 points, one from a free before Darragh Murphy put his midfield partner Gary Farrell through for his first score on half time to leave the Rovers leading 0-6 to 0-3. A sterling second half performance by the Rovers delivered an additional seven points, six from open play against the breeze. Good work out of defence by Jack Lyons allowed John Cottrell to nail his fifth score of the game on 35 minutes. Darragh Crowley and then Gary Farrell kicked over a point each to stretch the gap to 0-9 to 0-4, the latter score stemming from terrific defensive work and then passing between Kevin Canty and Eoghan Delaney. Cottrell kicked a free on 49 minutes after Eoin Manning was fouled to leave 6 points between the teams. Dohenys reduced the margin to 4 points with scores in the 52 and 58 minute but never really looked threatening against a Valleys rearguard that defended stoutly throughout the game led by team captain Noel O Donovan. On the 60th minute Darragh Murphy again put his midfield partner through for his third point with Delaney kicking his second before the outstanding Kevin Canty got his just rewards soloing through the Dohenys defence to pop over his own score giving Valley Rovers a seven point advantage in the 62nd minute. The visitors did manage to get the only goal of the game deep in added time but the game was well out of their reach long before then. Team Alan Quirke Noel O Donovan, Joe Lynch (R/hill), Tomas O Brien, Stephen Manning, David Lynch, Jack Lyons, Gary Farrell (3) Darragh Murphy KevinCanty (1) Eoghan Delaney (2) DarraghCrowley (1) John Cottrell (6)(3f), Eoin Manning, Jack Murphy Sub: Eoin Fallon for Darragh Crowley 55 minutes Michael O Brien for Jack Murphy 58 minutes Junior Football League Valley Rovers Junior A Footballers took on Courcey Rovers in Ballinspittle on yesterday Sunday. Valleys made the better start opening the scoring in the third minute with a point from Eoghan Delaney after good build up play from Jeremy Hurley, Darragh Looney and Don Lynch. It was quickly followed by a point from Richard Butler. In the tenth minute Richard Butler got the opening goal in a move that involved David Ryan, Don Lynch and Jeremy Hurley. Courceys got their opening score in the 15 minute from a free. Valleys responded a minute later with a point from Jeremy Hurley, Jeremy also got the next score, his first goal in the 18th minute from a pass from Darragh Looney. Eoghan Delaney increased the Valleys lead in 21th minute with his second point. Straight from the next kick out Courceys worked the ball up the field to get their opening goal. A point from Eoin Fallon right on half time left the score Valley Rovers 2-5 Courcey Rovers 1-1. Valleys made the better start in the second half with Jeremy Hurley getting his second goal from a move that involved Don Lynch, Liam Dempsey, Richard Butler and Mark Murphy. Courceys upped their game scoring 1-3. Mark Murphy Page 2 of 6

responded with a point for Valleys in the 20th minute of the second half. It was quickly followed by a point from Darragh Looney. Straight from the resulting kick out, Courceys attempted a short one which was intercepted by Jeremy Hurley who got his third goal. With 5 minute to go Eoghan Delaney increased Valleys lead with his 3rd point. Courceys ended the game the better scoring 1-2 but it was too little and too late as Valleys ran out winners on a score line of Valley Rovers 4-8 Courcey Rovers 3-6. Hurley(3-1) Liam Dempsey. Minor B Football Valley Rovers Minor footballs got the new season off to a great start with our second team earning a great win over Whitechurch in THE Rebel Óg East Minor B league in Whitechurch on Saturday 15 th Feb. This was the only game to survive the bad weather last weekend. This game was played on a perfect pitch with a gale force wind blowing. In the first half valleys played with the wind and outscored their opponents on a score line at half time of 1 goal and 4 points to no score. Valleys lost both their midfielders in the first half with Sean O Regan going out to a black card and Michael Crowley going off with a shoulder Injury. In the second half it was backs against the wall playing into the wind, but Valleys survived. Whitechurch outscored the Rovers in the second half, scoring 1 goal and 1 point to our 2 points. All our subs played their part but especially Robbie McCarthy who came on as a sub to play full forward but spent most of his time helping out in the full back line. The panel on the day was William Hurley, Aidan Sheehan, Ciarán Murphy (Captain on the day), Ben Murphy, Bill Casey, Alan Murphy, Dan Sweetnam, Michael Crowley, Sean O Regan, Colm Butler, Johnny Kiely, Garry Jones, Luke Walsh, Thomas Sweetnam, Shaun Crowley, Aaron Lyons, Robbie McCarthy, and John Madden. Scorers on the day were Shaun Crowley putting in a man of the match performance and 3 excellent points all scored from play. Garry Jones scored a wonderful goal with Luke Walsh, Johnny Kiely and Colm Butler getting a point each. In defence Ben Murphy had a great game breaking up many Whitechurch attacks and keeping us in the game when we were under a lot of pressure near the end. Next up for this team is Aghabullogue in Coachford on Sunday March 2nd at 11.30am. Under 16 Football League Macroom 6-6 Valley Rovers 3-7 Valley Rovers under 16 footballers got off to a losing start in the under 16 league away to Macroom on Saturday. However, with just the bare fifteen players available, this was a spirited performance by the Rovers lads and they played some good football in tricky conditions. The game started with three goals, two from the home side and one by Valley Rovers corner forward Paul Ryan. There was little between the teams for most of the first half. Rovers scored some good points, including two from play by Colm Barry, another by Adam Settini and a free from Robert- Sean Sweetnam. These were followed by a Fearghal Lyons goal from a long-range free, putting Rovers in a strong position leading up to half time, but Macroom responded with two goals of their own before the break to give them a four-point lead, 4-2 to 2-4. Scores were harder to come by in the second half. Macroom got the first two points but Rovers then had a good period with three points in quick succession, two frees from Robert-Sean Sweetnam and a point from play by Adam Settini. The game went beyond Rovers reach when Macroom scored two goals within the last ten minutes, followed by a couple of points, but a goal by Rory O Sullivan near the end gave a fairer look to the scoreboard. There is a lot to work on, but there were also lots of positives to take from this Page 3 of 6

opening game of the season and the players deserve credit for their efforts (and a special word of thanks to Gearoid Sweetnam for stepping in to help out).team: Jonathan Hurley Cian O Donovan, Sean Lynch, Aaron Murphy Fearghal Lyons, William Hurley, Sean O Donovan Rory O Sullivan, Adam Healy Colm Barry, Adam Settini, Patrick Hurley Paul Ryan, Robert-Sean Sweetnam, Gearoid Sweetnam Scorers: Paul Ryan 1-0, Fearghal Lyons 1-0 (f), Rory O Sullivan 1-0, Robert-Sean Sweetnam 0-3 (f), Colm Barry 0-2, Adam Settini 0-2. The Kinsale Youth Support Services have invited Conor Cusack (Cloyne & Cork ) to speak at Actons Hotel on the 7th March 2014 at 8pm. All are welcome to attend. U14 Football On Sat Valleys u14s travelled in to Mahon to play the home side in the first league game of the year. A strong wind was blowing straight down the field; Valleys played with the wind in the first half and lead at half time 3-03 to 0-03. Our scores coming from Charlie Lyons 1-02, Conor Hurley 1-01 & Ronan Hoey 1-00. Against the wind in the second half Valleys scored a goal through Darragh O Shea, Valleys lead for most of the second half but eventually wilted under St Michaels pressure and conceded late scores to lose 4-08 to 4-03. With the atrocious weather conditions over the last few months, and our lack of training facilities when our pitches are closed, it has been impossible to train over the last few months. This game was the first time this year that the team have played on a pitch so it s not surprising we found this game hard going. Best for Valleys on the day were Darragh Keane, Sean Barry, Shane lynch, Charlie Lyons and Ronan Hoey The Rebel Og Central championships Draws were made on Friday and Valleys were drawn against the following: U14 Premier 1 Football Valley Rovers V Nemo Rangers U14 Premier 1 Hurling Valley Rovers V Winners of Bishopstown & Shandrum U15 Premier 2 Hurling Valley Rovers V Inniscarra Premier 1 Minor Football Valley Rovers V Carrigaline Premier 1 Minor Hurling Valley Rovers V Losers of Carrigtwohill & Killeagh Itas Hurling Draws in full HERE Football Draws in Full HERE Page 4 of 6
