THE EVANS SCHOLARS FOUNDATION The Evans Scholars Foundation, administered by the Western Golf Association, was created in 1930 by Charles Chick Evans, Jr., the famed Chicago amateur golfer, winner of countless tournaments including the 1916 U.S. Amateur and Open Championships. Chick, who was introduced to golf as a caddie himself, attended Northwestern University. With his golf success, Chick created a trust fund for caddies who, could not afford a higher education. Since then, Chick s dream of sending deserving caddies to college has grown to become one of the largest privately-funded scholarship programs in the nation, with 865 Evans Scholars in school, and over 9,000 alumni. Each scholarship, covering tuition and housing, is renewable for up to four years, representing an average value of more than $50,000. With ever-increasing college tuitions and costs, fundraising is a vital component of the Alumni commitment to Keep Chick s Dream Alive. With annual freshman classes of approximately 225, the Evans Scholars attend the following universities, where the Foundation maintains Scholarship Houses: Colorado Marquette Michigan State Northern Illinois Purdue Illinois Miami (Ohio) Minnesota Northwestern Wisconsin Indiana Michigan Missouri Ohio State
KEEPING CHICK S DREAM ALIVE The Evans Scholar Invitational The Evans Scholars Alumni Association is hosting the 14 th Annual Evans Scholars Invitational on Monday, August 1, 2011 at Shoreacres Country Club and Onwentsia Golf Club. All proceeds from this fundraising tournament directly benefit the Evans Scholars Foundation, which provides college scholarships for young men and women caddies who have outstanding caddie and academic records, excellent character, leadership potential, and financial need. Since its inception in 1998, the Invitational has raised over $1.9M for the Foundation through sponsorships, player donations, and auctions. Evans Scholar Alumni volunteers manage all aspects of the event and fundraising efforts through committees including: players/operations, sponsorships, auction, communications, finance, and staff. In addition to a first-class day of golf on one of Chicago s premier golf courses, the tournament features special tee gifts, lunch, on-course food, beverages, events, and a dinner reception, which features the awarding of prizes and the silent and live auctions. The Invitational golf competition is a team best ball, gross and net.
