Play every game as if it s your last one. Guy Lafleur The CNN Executive would like to congratulate all of the teams in the playoffs. Looking forward to hanging some new banners in our arenas. Make CNN proud on the scoreboard, on the ice and in the stands. Message from the President Looking ahead to next season the biggest change is half ice Initiation games. This change is a mandate of Hockey Alberta and all LMHA s have to adhere to it. Please keep an open mind and if you are looking for more information go to the Hockey Alberta website at www.hockeyalberta.ca CNN has been proactive and already has placed an order for the half ice rink dividers for both rinks. I would like to thank PEMBINA for their generous donation towards these. The dividers give CNN another opportunity to sell affordable advertising spots which help control costs to you. In the next week or so your team managers will be distributing a coach survey. Please take the time to fill it out and return it via your manager. We are encouraging comments, especially of the positive kind. With this being one of the last Spur of the Moments of the season, I can t go without thanking the following people: The ladies of the CNN Executive: Roseanne Carey Treasurer: Way too many things that she does for this organization, it s unbelievable actually! Jodi Currie Secretary & Communications: Spur of the Moment was her idea. Braelynn Kieser- Registrar: Hit the ground running but never missed a thing. And also want to thank our Past President, Dave James Why did you block me on your cell? These people always have CNN s best interest at heart and work hours on end to make our kids hockey experience an unforgettable one. Thank you!! The AGM is booked for 7:00pm Tuesday April 26 th at Landing Trail School. As always, volunteers are required, if you have 1 P a g e Spurs Highlight any interest or have any questions please email me or anther executive board member. See you there. Jason Berry CNN President
Bantam The CNN Spurs Bantam team is having a very fun and successful season. Starting out in tier 5, we quickly realized that we had much more talent. After moving to tier 4, we found ourselves off to a booming start. We finished the regular season second in our division and just recently defeated one of the Fort Saskatchewan teams in the first round of playoffs. The team is led by a fantastic coaching staff that has been able to focus in on the strengths and weaknesses and make them a cohesive team, looking to make a solid run at the Championship. Special thanks to coaching staff led by Andre Schlesiger and assisted by Wayne Carey, Rob Povey, Ken Rubis, Tyler Kampjes and Kelly Wietzel Midget Our Midget team consists of 19 players including goalies. At the beginning of the season we were not sure we would have enough players to even have a team. With the combination of Midget & Bantam players our seasons accomplishments say a lot about our team. Coaches include: Head Coach Pat Mahoney who has been coaching for the past 13 years. Assistant coach Travis Van De Vliert who has coached for the past 6 years. And of course our team manager Michelle Van De Vliert. Coach Highlights: Our team had a winning record all season in Tier 4 up to Christmas, and since then have been able to maintain in the top 3 all season. Maintaining this while going through a tough stretch of injuries prior to Christmas (we were missing 3-4 players) One thing we are also very proud of is how disciplined our team has been all season. Next to Redwater we have the least number of penalty minutes while being in the near top of our tier. We have scored 106 goals and given up only 83 goals. As always for some of our players, this will be their last year with the CNN Midget Spurs: Danon Andersen, Logan Thimer, Taeran Panchyshyn, Eric George, Quinton Kozak and Antonio Vocioni. We wish you great luck and hope to see you in the crowds cheering our association on! Atom 2 The Atom 2 team is lead by a coaching staff with many years of experience. Head Coach Stacy Shenfield, has coached for 30 years for CNN, Fort Sask and St Albert. He has also been an on ice instructor for Fort Sask and the Ice Dawgs program. Stacy played minor hockey for CNN and junior in Gibbons and Ft Sask and College for NAIT. Assistant coaches include: Gerry Dutka, Levi O Hara, Lorne Ford, Monte Bobinski & Rich Sherran. Team Manager is Kyle Berezanski We have an incredible group of parents that support the kids on and off the ice. For example we hosted a very successful invitational tournament which was highlighted by the team winning the skills competition. Coach Shenfield s favorite memory is the teams continued effort by all of them to play for each other and have fun doing it! 2 P a g e SPURS HIGHLIGHT Player Development CNN Spur Coaches & Teams
