SCOTTSDALE SWIM & TENNIS CLUB RULES AND REGULATIONS I. GENERAL CLUB RULES 1. Parents shall be required to familiarize their children and guests with these rules. 2. All Members shall register upon entering Club premises. 3. No pets will be allowed on all Club premises, with the exception of identified Guide dogs or Guide dogs in training. 4. Tampering with or defacing Club equipment or property is forbidden. Members will be responsible for damage caused by them or their guests. 5. Members delinquent in payment of their dues will be charged a penalty of $50.00. In addition, members will not be allowed to use the pool or courts as long as dues, penalties or assessments remain unpaid. 6. Each membership is responsible for performing 4 hours of maintenance and upkeep work annually. This may include, but not be limited to, the following areas: electrical, sprinkler, cement, carpentry, or janitorial work; party clean-up; painting; gardening; sweeping; or cleaning tennis courts. Each membership will be assigned to a work party. In lieu of fulfilling the maintenance obligation, members can opt out of this requirement by paying $125.00. Should a membership not fulfill its work assignment as stated above, there will be a charge of $125.00. *Memberships in which the member or their spouse is 60 years old or older are exempted from this responsibility. 1

II. POOL RULES 1. Hours of operation will be posted on the monthly gate duty roster. The pool may be closed during the swimming season at any time by a member of the Board of Directors. 2. Pool may be closed without notice if required for maintenance. 3. During pool hours, the gatekeeper will be in charge of the building, and the lifeguard will be responsible for enforcing rules in the pool and surrounding area. 4. There shall be a qualified lifeguard on duty at all times before anyone will be allowed to enter the pool. 5. The pool lifeguard or the gate attendant is authorized by the Board of Directors of the Club to evict any person for the balance of the day for disorderly conduct on the pool premises. The guard or gate attendant is also authorized to enforce any additional rules that they may deem necessary at the time to provide for the safe operation of the pool. If the individual in charge believes the rule infraction warrants additional discipline, the case will be referred to the Board of Directors. 6. Guards will clear the pool each hour on the hour. Only persons 16 or over may swim during the 15 minute rest period following the clearing of the pool. The time period will commence when the last child has left the pool. This rest period is not only to give adults an opportunity to swim, but is for the safety of our children since one of the most common cause of drowning is fatigue. 7. No unnecessary conversation with or loitering around the lifeguard is allowed. 8. A swimming proficiency test will be given by an authorized person to all children under 11 years of age. Those children who have passed the test, and who are: (1) between 8 and 11 years of age, or (2) have completed second grade in school and will be 8 years old by December 2 of the current year, may swim unaccompanied by a parent or adult. After successful completion of the test, the lifeguard will star the child's name in the Rolodex card file in the gate duty office. Those children under 11 years and who have not passed the test must be accompanied by an adult who will remain at the pool. The proficiency swim test will consist of swimming one length of the pool freestyle, bobbing the width of the pool in the deep end, and treading water for one minute. All of this is to be done consecutively and without rest. 9. No running will be allowed around the pool area. No disorderly conduct such as dunking, pushing, or throwing persons into the pool is permitted. Children under 8 MUST be accompanied by an adult. 2

10. Only ONE person shall be on the diving board at one time. Wait at the foot of steps. In the diving area, diving from the side of the pool at a right angle to the board is prohibited. No swimming is permitted except for divers returning to ladders. 11. No jumping or diving off the sides of the diving board. No hanging on the underside of the diving board. 12. No potentially hazardous swimming equipment shall be used, including such items as air mattresses, rubber tubes, unapproved life jackets, swim fins, masks, snorkels & similar equipment. Exceptions to this rule will be the following: vested rubber tubes, water wings, and U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets which may be worn by children under the age of six while under the direct supervision of an adult who is standing in the pool. The lifeguard's judgment is the final authority if there is a question of safety. 13. No article that may contaminate, and endanger the safety of the participants, or damage the pool and its equipment is allowed. Glass containers of any sort are not allowed in the pool area. 14. No chewing gum will be allowed on the premises. The membership will be allowed to bring food and drinks into the general pool area during pool hours. 15. No cut-offs are allowed in the pool. 18. No bicycles/roller blades will be ridden inside the gate, pool area or on the tennis courts. It will be the duty of the gatekeeper, the lifeguards, or the coaches to enforce this rule. 19. A parent or adult chaperon must be in the wading pool area when a child is using the wading pool. Only non-swimmers under 6 years of age may use the wading pool. Pre-toilet trained babies must wear swim diapers or a cloth diaper with rubber pants while in the pool. NO DISPOSABLE DIAPERS. 20. Children in the wading pool shall be the responsibility of the parent, NOT the lifeguard.
