The manufacturer's logo may be located no more than 5 inches below the shoulder seam on the front of the jersey, or 2 inches from the neckline on the back of the jersey; or in either side insert.

Leg Compression Sleeve Rquirement (3-5-3) The specifications for leg compression sleeves were added because of the frequent use of these sleeves for non-medical reasons. The specifications match those of arm compression sleeve. They must be white, black, beige, or a single solid school color. The sleeve must be the same color for each team member and have only a single manufacturer's logo that does not exceed 2 1/4 square inches. The sleeve must be worn for medical reasons only.

Coaching Box 1-13-2 The coaching box shall be outlined outside the side of the court on which the scorer's and timer's table and team benches are located. The area shall be bounded by a line drawn 14 feet from the end line towards the mid-court.

Proper Mechanics and Signals The use of proper mechanics and signals are imperative to the success of the contest and the officiating team. The signals are a means of communicating what is happening on the floor. A uniform set of signals enhances the flow of the contest.

Granting Time-Out Officials must be diligent to recognize the calling of a timeout by the coach and determine that it is at the appropriate time. It is suggested that coaches add a visual signal to the verbal call for a time-out. Officials must know the status of the ball and whether there is player control before granting the request.

DEAD Ball Officiating See the whole play. See the actions of all players. Don t react too quickly that you do not see the second action or antics of a player that is inciting an opponent to react. Be aware of the whole situation so to penalize the correct player.

Guidelines to Enforce Illegal Contact When contact occurs that affects RSBQ (the rhythm, speed, balance and/or quickness) of the player, illegal contact has occurred. Illegal contact must be called regardless of time and score.

Intentional Foul An intentional foul is a personal or technical foul that may or may not be premeditated and is not based solely on the severity of the act. It is contact that: Neutralizes an opponent s obvious advantageous position.

Intentional Foul (cont.) Contact on an opponent who is clearly not in the play. May be excessive contact. Contact that is not necessarily premeditated or based solely on the severity of the act.

Three-Person Mechanics Change A foul is called in the back court going to the front court with no free-throws to administer: The calling official should move to the foul reporting area and give the appropriate information of the player and then signal. The official will then move to a position that is moving forward to a position tableside in most instances.

2013-14 CIF Rule Modifications Take Part. Get Set For Life.

CIF Modifications GIRLS MODIFICATION (1600) The National Federation Basketball Rules shall be modified for girls basketball as follows: Utilization of 30-second shot clock. No 10 second rule in backcourt. Utilization of five-second count for holding the ball only.

CIF Modifications BOYS MODIFICATION (1601) The National Federation Basketball Rules shall be modified for boys basketball as follows: A. Utilization of a 35-second shot clock. UNIFORMS (1602) The National Federation boys and girls uniform rules shall be waived to allow for the wearing of a shirt with diagonal or tailed lettering at the nonvarsity level.

CIF Modifications THREE-PERSON OFFICIATING (1603) Three-person officiating teams may be used at all games in every round of the State basketball tournament. OFFICIAL NATIONAL FEDERATION AUTHENTICATION MARK (1604) Only balls with the National Federation authentication mark shall be used in the sports of basketball.

CIF Modifications COACHES BOX (1605) A 14-foot coaches box will be utilized. MERCY RULE (1607) When at the conclusion of the third quarter, or any point thereafter, if there is a point differential of forty (40) or more points, a running clock shall be instituted for the remainder of the game, regardless of the score. This applies to all levels of play. Coaches may mutually request a running clock prior to the beginning of the fourth quarter if the point differential is 40 or more points.

CIF POE Bench Decorum Coaching Box - Coaches must stay within the confines of the coaching box Coaches are only permitted to give instructions to players and substitutes. Coaches do not have implied permission to roam the sidelines, attempt to influence the decision of an official, or conduct themselves in an unsporting manner. Officials are directed to properly enforce the bench decorum rule.

Concussion Procedure (2-8-5; 3-3-8) Procedure requires an athlete exhibiting signs, symptoms or behaviors consistent with a concussion be removed from the contest.

CIF Concussion Management (Cont. By Laws 313) 1. A student-athlete who is suspected of sustaining a concussion or head injury in a practice or game shall be removed from competition at that time for the remainder of the day. 2. A student-athlete who has been removed from play may not return to play until the athlete is evaluated by a licensed health care provider trained in education and management of concussion and receives written clearance to return to play from that health care provider. (Approved May 2010 Federated Council)
