ULMATEC LAUNCH AND RECOVERY SYSTEMS Ulmatec develops efficient, safe and robust solutions for handling remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) from ships and rigs. The Ulmatec LARS functions effectively even in demanding weather conditions. This range comprises complete systems for launch and recovery over the side or through the moon pool, from built-in hangars or from the open deck. During the development of the Ulmatec LARS, the focus has been on getting as close as possible to the sea/splash zone with the handling system while maintaining operator safety. This maximises the weather window, giving more operational days in a safe environment. The system is operated safely from a work station with a full overview of the launch and recovery zone. The Ulmatec LARS can also be delivered for remote control from other operating areas on the vessel. All versions are easy to adapt to different hangar sizes or decks. The Ulmatec LARS has been designed for safe operation and for efficient and environment-friendly service on deck. The ROV and the tether management system (TMS) can easily be separated using either the frame or sliding hatches, which have Clean class for oil collection. 4 6 8 9 10

Ulmatec has delivered two Moon Pool LARS (pictured), a hydraulic hatch system for the main moon pool and skid systems for the work deck on Island Enforcer, an advanced subsea construction vessel. 4 Ulmatec Moon Pool LARS 9 Ulmatec Heavy-Duty LARS 6.0 6 Ulmatec U-Frame LARS 8_Ulmatec Overhead LARS 4.5 10 Cetix - high performance electrical winches

ULMATEC MOON POOL LARS The Ulmatec Moon Pool LARS is the ultimate system for launch and recovery in rough weather. Designed to handle work-class ROVs, this system is completely built-in and specially outfitted for safe and soft launch and recovery of ROVs even in high waves. The Ulmatec Moon Pool LARS for safe handling, storing, launching and recovery through the moon pool. This vertically guided system is fitted to the moon pool wall. With its operational area placed inside the vessel and screened from wind and weather, it is designed to provide a safe platform for both operators and ROV equipment. 04

CURSOR SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLED RELEASE AND SOFT LANDING Controlled release 2600 A cursor guides the ROV and its tether management system (TMS) through the moon pool. When the ROV/TMS reach the bottom of the moon pool, the main (upper) cursor halts and the ROV/TMS is lowered to the desired depth. The lower cursor is conically shaped in order to guide the umbilical during the operation. 80% SPEED 100% SPEED ROV/TMS LOWER CURSOR Soft landing When the ROV/TMS is to be retrieved to the vessel, it is first raised with the umbilical winch to about 50 metres beneath the keel. The umbilical winch will then cease lifting and the lower cursor will be lowered to about 30 metres beneath the keel. In recovery mode, the umbilical winch will lift about 20 per cent faster than the cursor winch. This reduces the jolt when the lower cursor engages with the ROV/TMS. When the lower cursor and the ROV/TMS have latched together, the signal will be given for the umbilical to change to constant tension (CT) mode, and cursor winches will guide the lower cursor and the ROV/TMS into the upper cursor, up into the moon pool and over the hatches to the deck. ULMATEC MOON POOL LARS Enlarges the weather window, and thereby increases the number of operating days Reduces the danger of damage to the equipment 05

ULMATEC U-FRAME LARS The Ulmatec U-Frame LARS is a flexible solution with a long reach and high capacity despite its simple and compact design. It provides a mobile system for rapid and simple mobilisation and demobilisation. The U-frame is intended for installation on deck, which means it is also very suitable for retrofitting on existing vessels. The Ulmatec U-Frame LARS is a deck-mounted system for safe handling, storing, launching and recovery over the side. With its long reach of 4.5 metres from the vessel side and 3.5 metres below deck level, it can be installed on a mezzanine deck, for instance. 06

A FLEXIBLE SOLUTION WITH A LONG REACH AND HIGH CAPACITY Extended dip features 3.5m 4.5m ROVR O The Ulmatec U-Frame LARS has properties which minimise the risk of damaging equipment during launch and recovery. In working position, the distance from the ship side to the umbilical cable is about 4.5 metres. In addition, the frame extends no less than 3.5 metres down towards the splash zone from the deck where it has been installed. Its extended dip features mean that the system provides flexible positioning. It can be located on a mezzanine deck, for instance. Mobile system The Ulmatec U-Frame LARS is a mobile system which ensures rapid and simple mobilisation and demobilisation. As a deck-mounted system, it can easily be adapted to existing vessels. Safe working load 15 000kg Ulmatec U-FRAME LARS Rapid mobilisation more days in operation. Flexible choice of vessel. Can be installed higher than standard A-frames while reducing the distance to the splash zone. 07

ULMATEC OVERHEAD LARS 4.5 The Ulmatec LARS 4.5 is a traverse system installed on the hangar ceiling for operation over the vessel side. This launch and recovery system has been developed to provide optimum safety for the operator during operation and in parking/servicing the ROV/TMS. It features a unique design, operational flexible, easy installation and minimal service requirements. 5m ROVR O SAFE LAUNCH AND RECOVERY OPERATIONS The Ulmatec LARS 4.5 is designed to operate at about 5 metres from the vessel side to the centre of the umbilical at deck level when in launch and recovery position. That provides greater distance from the ship than a standard A-frame, and a considerably lower gap between the launch/recovery position and the splash zone. This permits soft handling in rough weather as well as optimised ROV lowering and raising. When deploying the ROV, the vertical crib can be hoisted above the lower part of the hangar side hatch for more secure operation in heavy seas. A solid weather-tight hatch measuring three metres from deck and into the hangar opening can be supplied. This protects crew and equipment in the hangar from waves and weather along the vessel side during operation. The ROV operators have optimum working conditions, with a clean ROV deck providing easy access during service and maintenance. The system is equipped with a trolley for parking and separating the ROV and TMS, which simplifies service and maintenance. Safe working load 12 000kg 08

ULMATEC HEAVY-DUTY LARS 6.0 The Ulmatec LARS 6.0 is a heavy-duty launch and recovery system specially developed for ROV operations from large vessels with a high freeboard. This traverse system is fitted to the hangar ceiling for safe storage and operation of the ROV over the ship s side. It guides the ROV securely through the splash zone and right into the sea with the aid of vertical guide beams mounted on the ship s side. ROVR O ROVR O FULL HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL CONTROL A guidance system which follows the ROV down the vessel side is important during launch and recovery operations on ships where the ROV hangar is a long distance from the splash zone. The guidance system eliminates swinging of the ROV, even with large vessel motion. This eliminates the danger of the ROV coming into contact with the vessel side on its way up or down. The Ulmatec LARS 6.0 comprises two trolleys one horizontal, running on horizontal guide beams fitted to the hangar ceiling, and the other vertical, running on vertical guide beams fitted to the horizontal trolley and the ship s side. The system can also be delivered with a guidance system beneath the sea surface. The vertical guide beams on the vessel s side will then end at the bilge radius below the waterline. Safe working load 18 000kg 09
